Kirk Ferentz retiring

Iowa folks texting me saying Ferentz is calling it. Retiring.

He wants nothing to do with no more divisions.

FWIW.

You posted this at 3:46 AM - you really think anyone posted an announcement at that time?  Read the OP - his (her?) Iowa fan friends are texting him about the rumor they hear.

I don't doubt it at all, honestly, and do think we'll see something about it today.  He's taken so much heat this year - and the last several years - about his son and his offense.  I mean, his teams are actually competitive in games against really good opponents - look at his record!  It's also time, he's been there forever...  Announce it now and get the farewell game out of his players in the B1G CG.

Wow, but he has been there a long time and he probably doesn't want to be told whom to hire as OC.

With no divisions, programs like Iowa will hardly ever sniff a B1G CG unless they have a 2015 type season.

The Nepotism plan got dismantled when Brian got tossed. No longer will Kirk be able to retire and have Brian take his place. That would have been the worst plan in current college football. I hope the new coach if it's true, is able to retain Norm Parker for some time. That is the key for Iowa to stay relevant.

I wonder about the possible effect on a B10 title game.vs UM.  How motivated will that iowa ream be?  I remember a similarly  retiring Coach Carr and the way that UM against Florida and uncle Urban

I thought briefly about that, but that team had more offensive talent in its collective big toes than the current Iowa team has.  And if deJean’s injury is as serious as it sounds, that’s a huge blow for them on both defense and special teams, aka the two ways they’d have to score to pull an upset.

I guess, but did you watch any of that Illinois-Iowa game yesterday? I don't see how that team beats Michigan or OSU unless either team throws the game away. Weather will not be a factor as well so hard to find any other intangible to level the playing field.

Their best chance is OSU & Michigan beat each other up, and the winning team loses key personnel to injury.

That's an interesting point.  His name is in the top 2 of "lol, no fucking chance" for all coach's searches over the past 20 years (other being Gruden), but this would be the one situation where it actually seems plausible.  UMx, I think you are the first internetter to ever reasonably connect Bob Stoops to a potential job opening.  (Tips cap)

Good timing for him to go out on a winning note. The days of the 4th (or worse) best team playing in the conference championship game are over after this year.

He can get creamed in the Big 10 championship game and maybe win the mediocre  bowl game the Hawkeyes get invited to one last time.

Thanks for asking.

Btw I posted a comment about my condition in the Hoekstra family thread you created. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's pinned to the top of the forum and relates to a gofundme for a family struggling with medical costs. I encourage you to help out if you can.

I was close to being released but developed sepsis, so that set me back. I am now being transported to and from the hospital for radiation treatment, so I finally have that restarted. My last treatment is Tuesday, then I should be released: to home if I'm strong enough, to a rehab facility if I'm not.
