Kirby Smart acknowledges obvious things with Spring Break in Florida

At least I can respect Smart for just telling it like it is.

Sometimes obvious things are just obvious and there is no point in trying to hide an agenda.

Actually, I kind of like the way Smart went about his comments, at least as it was presented in that story: "Harbaugh wants a competitive advantage; that's his right if it's within the rules; but I hope they change the rules to benefit me/us once again"! At least he's honest, right?

Smitm is opining about two different issues, open practice in the South and camps where platers could attend and coaches could presumably participate and at which they would have the opportunity to recruit players for themselves on Michigan's dime.

Harbaugh is not seeking exlusivity in his approach, he is seeking to revolutionize the game, offering a teaching experience that might lend itself to a learning and growth opportuntiy, which secure programs understand and insecure folks do not.

Harbaugh is at his heart a teacher and doer and he spreads himself and does what he does to spread his message and sow his seed. It might be done at the behest of Michigan's brand and his employment, but ultimately he is what he is, and he does what he does, to advance what he he loves and enjoys doing most. And he just enjoys doing it all the time for a specific brand of interest whose belief system is now part of his DNA, You either get that or you don't. But he will keep on doing what he thinks will advance his cause because that's what he does.

At this point it time, I don't even know why they bother with Jim any longer. He is, as you say, undeniably Jim, and he can no more stop what he does than you or I could stop being UM fans.

He has gotten into the minds of virtually every coach in the country. I don't know why SEC coaches would want to remark about him. By virture of the bowl alignments, they will face him down the road at some point, and if you think he's trying now, look back in two years and see how many more things he has done. It will be non stop for this man until he hangs up the whistle.

But like you, I don't get why these coaches - not necessarily SEC - but anyone who speaks about the pressures of coaching, and they will ultimately tell you what they will and will not do to get a recruit. They will talk about "not being willing to stand on their head" or some other idiotic thing and you know who they are speaking about. In some cases, I am like our new DT, a name I probably won't be able to pronounce, let alone spell by time he graduates, when referring to the PSU coaches and the fact he overheard them - maybe talking loudly on purpose? - laughing and making fun at what Jim would do to try and get a commitment. He said he was turned off greatly and thought to himself if they would make an attempt instead of settting and ridiculing someone who was proving to be damn successful at this recruiting thing they, too, might be able to get some players. He knew his visit was basically over at that time.

The satellite camps, sots, I think pissed a lot of fellow coaches off, but then again, you had former coaches in attendance foregoing their normal appearance fees due to it being nothing but a fun evening, with proceeds going to charity. When I first learend of it, I thought it was a damn good idea, if done for no other reasons than a celebration of players and coaches alike for all the work that had gone into that particular cycle and I saw nothing wrong if that was as deep as it went. The money raised was a bonus. I am certain a lot of it has to do with jealousy, because accidentally he promotes more goodwill toward his game and does his best to teach and motivate as many people as possible, far more than the majority will do on a calculated basis.

As a player, I think it was mostly his teammates that understood how truly unique this guy was. During the Bo years, nothing came out of that camp unless Bo wanted it to. So when he made his guarantee of a victory over the Buckeyes, I thought, Son, you've gotten yourself into a world of shit. When asked what he thought about it Bo, always as honest as Jim, simply replied, "Well I wish he wouldn't have done it but after he did, I just told our players we had better do all we can to prove him right." That just makes me more aware of how lucky I have been to watch two of the game's greatest and most genuine work for the same team.

But as genuine as Jim is as not wanting to hurt anyone by his actions, I think these coaches should back off. The man has a dangerous competitive streak that you could feel when he was discussing the BYU game that took place when his arm was in a sling. "That loss still stings to this day." I thought, "Damn, Jim, that game took place thirry years ago. .  And then we all saw what happpened.

They have a right to talk all the shit they want. But I am pretty sure they will be discussing him in a different manner after they face him on the field when he has just conducted a clinic on their ass. Game On

And...

Let's be honest, this has more to do with the fact that Harbaugh is setting the bar, work ethic wise. No stone or idea gets left unturned. These guys mostly get the benefit of recruiting within 400 miles of their campus. Now they have a national media frenzy of a coach who will go anywhere and do anything (legal) to build a winner and get great players from anywhere. That is what this is really about.

Never seen a softer bunch of "men" than these SEC coaches/admins.

Because opening a practice in a hot recruiting area will definitely NOT result in those recruits gaining interest or even planning an official visit to Michigan's campus. Exposure U. Haters gon' hate. Sankey is stankey, etcetera and so on.

Smart ain't very...unless he is being intentionally obtuse.

He still fails to see the big picture.

He completely misses how difficult it will be to draft a rule that would exclude what Michigan will be doing with IMG and yet allow for holiday tournaments that occur in a host of other sports on an annual basis over different times of the year, including bowl season. The NCAA is caught between a rock and a hard place.

Look at out off season basketball rules compaired to football's.  Hockey players can have pro deals and so on.  They could make a rule that says whatever they want if they get enough to buy in.  They give bowl teams extra practice time, exceptions can be made.  The rule could clearly be no practice out of season more than x miles from campus for football.  It's a dick move but that won't slow down the SEC.

The NCAA can pass any rule they want, but that doesn't mean the rule is enforceable.  While the IMG situation is different from the summer camp tour that Harbaugh took last summer and will do this summer, another happenstance that sets the SEC into a tizz, I believe that there could be strong legal remedies that are available should the NCAA prevent the camps and I'm not the first person to suggest this.

Brings up all good and valid points. I know nobody on here agrees, and all will pound their chest well because, Harbaugh. My question is where does UM turn once Harbaugh is gone and he has left the program in complete disarray? What value is Jim's antics adding to the university? Just win the B1G and stay out of the spotlight.

A Harbaugh private club? I am questioning Jim's overwhelming fascination with himself. Maybe we get rid of the winged helmets and go with a big H instead. Our coach is a rock star, he better win championships, or he will be the next milli vanilli.

In the end of time
There was a coach who hit the road
And the writing was, written on the stone

In the fabled time
An artist led the way
But no one seemed, to understand

In his heart he knew
The artist must be true
But for the legend, of the SEC Rent they'll sue

Well you think you'll be just fine
Without... me but, your mine
You think you can kick me, out of your land

Well there's just one problem there
The land is mine
How can you kick me out Of... what is mine

Well, you're not hardcore
Unless you recruit hardcore
But the legend of the SEC Rent is way hardcore
