This reminds me of a time when I met a couple of PGY-8 thoracic surgery fellows at UM Hospital. These guys had done undergrad, med school, and their general surgery residencies at top schools.

Back then and probably today, the lifestyle was very punishing. It was a little chilling to see how aged they looked in their mid-30s. Get your sleep if you can, kids.

I think he in entering his 7th year, meaning he has done 6 years so far (4 at Michigan and 2 at Utah State).

But even getting to 6 years + 2 years eligibility seems crazy. I could see a sizable number of players getting to 7 total (4 years + 1 year COVID + 1 year redshirt + 1 year medical redshirt). But 8 total years is going to be an elite group.

I am kind of hoping for the surreal situation where a player like Paea who earned an undergrad degree at Michigan and could have potentially earned a grad degree at Utah State to end up in the NFL and then list his university as Oklahoma.

Good for him.  I don't understand how he has two years of eligibility left, but that'd be a great success story.  Injuries suck.  Lot of brilliant players never get to reach their apex.

It is great to see him doing well. Probably only one-years eligibility left, red-shirt as freshmen (2017), stayed 4 years and graduated after 2020. Played all 14 games at Utah State 2021. 2022 was cut short after only 3 games.

love the jeremiah 29:11 quote.  good on him, i hope he tears it up at OU.  ever since baker mayfield planted their flag at ohio's 50 yd line (we did it next!!) i have had an affinity for that school.

I am spending way too much time and energy on this.

I must be a UM grad.

According to Bentley, he never acquired a stat at UM, but appeared in 2 games in 2018 and one in 2020.

  • Started 2017 with 4 years.  Redshirt
  • Started 2018 with 4 years.  Burned one.
  • Started 2019 with 3 years.  Didn't play...perhaps an injury claim?
  • Started 2020 with 2 or 3 years.  Played a game.  Didn't count because 2020. Graduated UM with 2 or 3 years to play.
  • Started 2021 with 2 or 3 years.  Played and played well.
  • Started 2022 with 1 or 2 years.  Injured after 3--getting a medshirt for 2022 surely.

So he has either 1 or 2 years--the 2 years will depend on him getting a credit for 2019.
