Key Match up against Penn St this weekend

Submitted by Duval Wolverine on

In the past two season Saquon Barkley has rushed for a combined 127 yards and 0 TDs and caught 7 passes for 96 yards and 0 TDs against Michigan.  Barkley is leading Penn St this year in receptions (29) and receiving yards (395).

I think the key match against their offense this year will be McCray vs Barkley in coverage.  PSU likes to go to Barkley during passing downs and I think McCray will struggle to cover him, just like he has struggled to cover other explosive running backs in past.  I hope Brown makes an adjustment and has Bush cover Barkley instead because I believe he is fast enough to cover Barkley man to man in the open field.   What do you guys think?

Stop Saquan force McSorley to pass and it’s a W for the good guys.... Our secondary is good enough to match up with their WRs please please don’t leave McCray in space with the QB or Barkley ... That will be their only chance to attack our defense is to somehow get him isolated and victimize McCray

Haven't looked at the other comments yet but I'd be shocked if they put McCray on Barkley, it'll be Bush all the way. Or Hudson will spy him or something. Don Brown will do all he can to keep Barkley from beating us.

Bush has been covering tailbacks man-to-man in the past couple games. He, not McCray, will be man-to-man against Barkley. We all thought it was weird when Bush was split wide with the RB, but now it all makes sense. Bush vs. Barkley decides this game.

Agree with all but your last sentence... Michigan's ability to put up enough points will decide this game.

Our defense will hold PSU in check and to a reasonable amount of points, I think 20 or less, but if we don't get some luck in putting points on the board we can't win this game. A nice pick six or special teams TD would go a long way for us.

1. Devin Bush containing Barkley and keeping Barkley from gaining the outside edge.

2. O'Korn actually looking for a 2nd receiver when the first receiver is open, instead of deciding whom he is going to throw the ball to before the ball is even hiked.

I think the first key will likely happen.  The 2nd key WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
