Heavily recruited high school 5 Star, Kiyaunta Goodwin, 6'8" 351 lbs, is leaving Kentucky.

He was Mark Stoops highest ranked recruit ever at Kentucky. Apparently there are discipline matters. He (apparently) went up over 400 lbs during the season. And, he had issue with snap counts:

Yenser noted Goodwin needed particular work in mastering the snap count in Kentucky’s offense. “When he knows what to do, he has a chance,” Yenser said. If that development is to come for Goodwin, it will be somewhere else.

Though Kentucky had held hopes in his development

“We just felt like there would be a time when he would be ready to play. So, we want to continue to get him (ready),” Stoops said.

Goodwin played in 11 games at Kentucky on the FG unit.

Michigan did recruit him, with Sherrone Moore and Steve Clinkscale listed as recruiters.

Even with the his performance at Kentucky lots of teams will still give him a look. Would he be worth a try at Michigan?

We can't take too many guys on the Portal without pushing others in. I'm all for taking sure bets (Olu FTW), but projects are best left to others.

The Portal is cool, but NIL money taking away scholarship limits hurts football.  Limits or no there are only so many minutes in a game, and hours for practice.  We can take projects but the terms of engagement are on the coaching staff.

This is a high perfoming bunch.  I would like to see Gentry get some snaps in games. Persi and El-Hadi have been good. I'm not sure if we are going to have attrition, and I don't even want to go there. Beat TCU!

True.

LaDarius Henderson comes in as well. I would imagine they are aggressive in the portal, but too much interest is either a tell (the staff knows the players intentions better than we do) or bad juju. I would prefer not to have Cade like fallout when thingss are going so well on the line. It's more about teamwork on the offensive line than any other unit.

Everyone bringing up Okie whenever there's a transfer target with sketchy character issues needs to cool their jets.

Yes, Okie washed out a couple times. But, he turned his attitude around at a low-level program before coming to Michigan, and even that was done with a personal connection to Biff Poggi in place, which I have to imagine went a long way.

Grabbing a random dude who wouldn't listen to his most recent coaching staff and has decided to find a new landing spot isn't the same thing at all.

I'd rather pass on this guy. Okie had least put his problems in the past and was worth the risk.

Let him try to make the cut for Deion. That guy might be the kind of coach that can get him in better shape by mixing in tough love with more structure.

If he does come here, he'll need to prove himself in the weight room with Ben and trim 50 pounds and be a hulk.

No.  If he's got weight issues and can't get something as basic as a snap count on a consistent basis then he's probably got focus issues.  Not worth the effort right now.  Hopefully he gets these things straightened out but not necessary to add him to this roster.

We all make mistakes.  His interest, effort, and acknowledgment of what has happened recently is essential as is his commitment to change whatever needs to be addressed.

I wish him well.
