KBA Now M's Winningest WBB Coach!

Submitted by M Ascending on

Congratulations are due to Kim Barnes Arico, who last night became Michigan's all-time winningest women's basketball coach.  KBA garnered her 124th victory on the Michigan bench, surpassing former coach Sue Guevara's record of 123.  The Wolverines throttled Wisconsin on the road by a score of 80-57.  They are now 13-3 on the season and ranked 22nd in the nation.

This Sunday, we host the 10th ranked OSU Buckeyes in a "Crash Crisler" game.  If you can tear yourself away from the NFL playoffs for a couple of hours, come down to Crisler and root our ladies on.  It should be a huge and boisterous crowd and, if we win, we have a legitimate shot at a B1G title this year.

That Katelynn Flaherty is a wizard both with the rock and cutting off the ball to the basket...really fun to watch.  According to the article I read, she needs 57 points to become Michigan's all-time leading scorer, male or female (Glen Rice is the current leader).

Congrats to KBA on her record-setting victory!

They were almost always terrible before Guevara came along.  She got them to pretty good but then fell apart at the end.  That was followed by several years in the wilderness.  KBA has done very well, some big wins here and there and her worst season was 20-15, which would have been among the best for any of Michigan's previous head coaches.  I hope she can keep it going.

Not much success against a generally strong Michigan State program.

The Big Ten is so undistinguished at women's hoops that you have to be at the top to even make the NCAA tournament, e.g. last year we finished 3rd but still ended up in the NIT.

The conference is a bit more distinguished in women's hoops this year.

Ohio State, Maryland, Iowa, and Michigan are all ranked in the AP Top 25, and Rutgers is just outside the Top 25.

There should be more than 2 teams in this year's NCAA tourney.

GIven what Michigan was before her and what she's done, what big time WBB program tries to woo her?
