Kareem Walker given 24 hours to cancel his OVs
This according to MGoFish and others apparently.
Walker update: According to the source, that 24 hr deadline being reported is real and if Walker cancels his other OVs, he'll remain w/ OSU.
— Garrett Fishaw (@MGoFish) October 13, 2015
So we will know a lot more about our possible standing with him in 24 hours.
EDIT: Originally reported on Ohio State Scout Board apparently, and this tweet preceded MGoFish's
@MGoFish hearing OSU giving deadline for Walker to decide if he'll be in class. Couple this with your source and that sounds good for UM

IIRC this is the same thing that happened with Dunn - a visit to Michigan and then an ultimatum from Meyer. Hopefully this goes Michigan's way this time.

It does seem heavy handed but JB would have saved himself some trouble this year if he used the same approach. I'm not advocating this method for any of our coaches.
October 13th, 2015 at 4:41 PM ^
I prefer this one.

Urban is salty.
But I can't really blame him if he's got a commit coming from the Wisconsin kid.
Let's not act like we didn't take the sure thing in Higdon when Weber was going back and forth.
The last thing OSU wants is to lose out on both...so whatever. I'll be waiting, and I feel good about this because the timing is AWFUL by OSU. He's still buzzing off the hype of his Michigan visit, I think it would be easier to say "fine...fuck it. I'm going with Michigan!"
One thing we haven't discussed is how does this affect our other RB commits? They've been forgotten about.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:17 PM ^
IIRC, Weber was pretty much considered GONE when we grabbed Higdon from Iowa. We didn't stomp our feet, point to a clock, and say CHOOSE.

I know for a fact. Firsthand. That this isn't true.
October 13th, 2015 at 4:42 PM ^
No, no you don't remember correctly.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:09 PM ^
This is clearly either bad news, or it's good news.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:11 PM ^
Actually, there is no bad news. He is their commit currently. If he stays with OSU, its the same news. If he decomits and comes here, its good news.
What i think would be funny is if he played Urbz. He cancels his remaining visits. OSU does not take the wiscy RB. Day before signing day he decomits from OSU and comes here.
Give me an ultimatum? Ok. Ill screw you.

The first part is true and the last part is a funny scenario to imagine... but more to the first part; who honestly was even thinking about Walker 3 weeks ago? This is all good.
October 13th, 2015 at 4:45 PM ^
Are we going to have any room left in our class by signing day? Maybe that was more of a Hoke thing with the small classes to not really see much action on signing day, but we're filling up quickly as it is this year too.
October 13th, 2015 at 7:32 PM ^
Best news = WE are in Urban's head. WE comin either way...
October 13th, 2015 at 3:08 PM ^
High pressure tactics on a HS kid = DICK! This kid deserves the time to make the best possible decision. Especially when it is life altering. Hopefully this has other recruits doing a double take...
October 13th, 2015 at 3:11 PM ^
Or OSU has heard something about Walker wavering and it's a PR move to avoid looking like your program is losing a top ranked commit (and possibly to their biggest rival). It makes them look like they were the ones breaking up. "It's not you, it's me."
October 13th, 2015 at 7:50 PM ^
October 13th, 2015 at 3:15 PM ^
It is...but at the same time, can you blame them if they have this Wisconsin kid ready to commit?
They can't lose both.
What if we lose out on both Weber AND Higdon when Higdon was ready to sign?
October 13th, 2015 at 3:29 PM ^
If the Wisconsin kid is ready to commit he is remaining silent and already knows he is second choice. He will wait and most likely would be willing to flip at any moment. There is no need to pressure Walker like this IMHO.
October 13th, 2015 at 8:21 PM ^
He'll be there Saturday.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:17 PM ^
How is this any different than Hoke's policy? If you take an OV somewhere else or visit in general you lose your space.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:23 PM ^
And i dont see why what Meyer is doing is wrong. He extended an offer, Walker accepted it and now Walker wants to look around some. That's fine but OSU isnt obligated to hold the spot open while he does. Meyer is telling him to fish or cut bait in regards to that previous committment and personally I would do the exact same thing.
This issue has always reminded me of an engagement. If one party decides during the engagement they want to start dating again then the engagement is off. That doesnt mean they might not eventually get back together but for now, at least one side doesnt want to make a committment.
I thought Hoke's policy was solid here and I think Meyer's is too.

The player maintains the right at all times prior to signing the LOI to say "no". They can say no to the verbal, they can say no to the demand he cancels the officials and he can say no to the scholly offer. Last time I checked Meyer wasnt negotiating with a gun in his hand - just a piece of paper.
Both parties are acting in their own self-interest and I see nothing wrong with it. The good news is it might benefit Michigan so for that I'm happy. But I think what Meyer is doing is perfectly acceptable.
October 13th, 2015 at 4:26 PM ^
Here we go again with the engagement analogy...
October 13th, 2015 at 7:40 PM ^
Good analogy, but if I find out my fiancee is looking to start dating again, I don't give her a 24-hour ultimatum to "see the light". Only a dick does that.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:26 PM ^
I think generally speaking that was known up front before the kid had made a commitment. This seems to be a rule that Urbz just decided to implement in this "one-off" scenario.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:49 PM ^
It's different because Hoke made that policy clear from the beginning and Meyer was letting Walker take visits until today. So he totally changed up the rules after months of being OK with it. Not saying it's wrong for Meyer to do it, but it's not the same as what Hoke did.
October 13th, 2015 at 4:30 PM ^
Walker just took an OV here. He's had other commits take visits, too.
October 13th, 2015 at 4:38 PM ^
Some ways in which it's different:
Hoke did it from a position not of strength but of relative weakness, which made it a very risky proposition.
Cryer has Ezekial Elliott and a NC, Hoke was said to have inherited a "bare cupboard" and lucked into a very fine 1st season. THEN he started the "No Visit" policy.
Urban hasn't to my knowledge made this a blanket policy, but chose this instance to make an ultimatum. Refusing to be strung along when you can afford not to be is how every guy wants to treat the courship game.
All that being said, urbz is still a Dick becuase - ohio....!!!! :-D
October 13th, 2015 at 3:20 PM ^
It's just reality. If you aren't fully committed and someone else wants to commit and take your spot, you have to make a final decision. If OSU had unlimited scholarships available to give, i am sure Urban would give him more time to make a decision.
October 13th, 2015 at 4:42 PM ^
***As a five star its best to wait.
***NOTE: Unless commiting to Michigan

October 13th, 2015 at 4:17 PM ^
"If you take other visits we'll no longer consider you committed, and if you aren't committed there's somebody else willing to commit"?
That's just honesty.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:22 PM ^
if we were to get both Gary and Walker it would be quite the haul from NJ this year... Epic even.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:54 PM ^
It's called hardball. I for one like the approach. I kind of wish our coaches would take a similar tack with kids who are double dealing or drawing out recruitments. UM has been left hanging on more than one occasion by kids who were at one time or another considered locks.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:29 PM ^
its just a dirty business

October 13th, 2015 at 4:39 PM ^
I am not saying he was a great coach but he was fairly successful on the recruting trail. And I heard nothing from recruits regarding bieng pressured by Hoke. In fact, I rembember reading the exact opposite several times from several sources. I also remember Mattison saying they don't pressure.
Of course, stating your goals and agenda up front honestly and openly isn't necessarily dirty. So, yea
October 13th, 2015 at 5:42 PM ^
Meyer sees the writing on the wall. Walker is on the fence, and if Meyer has a guy that's ready to commit to him right now 100%, and it's especially a guy he likes, he doesn't want to standing there on NSD being left at the altar by both guys.
It's unfortunate, but it's fair. Meyer only has so many scholarships to work with, and he wants to know that the guys who have committed to him are committed.
