Bo Harbaugh

Seriously, fuck this guy already.  Great coach and appreciate what he’s done at UM, but no program can deal with this constant uncertainty.

He had his “follow your heart” moment last year, it didn’t happen, and made a commitment to stay at UM for at least a couple more years.  At this point I’d rather he just go.  It’s incredibly selfish if the current players he “loves so much” have to deal with this uncertainty every off season.

It’s clear he wants out - UM should not be his side piece until he finds his true love.  I’m sure all his frustrations are real, so go.  Can’t deal with this bs every year.  He’s behaving like a 17 year old recruit at this point, changing commitment at every new visit. He’s also losing credibility in the locker room and definitely on the recruiting trail.

The anger at Harbaugh, the “he should just quit/he should be fired” stuff…

Man. I’m not thrilled by all this either, but these are just massive overreactions. It’s a good thing fanbases don’t get what they deserve, because fans with opinions like this deserve the RR and Hoke years.

Careful what you wish for.

Let me clarify. I'm not angry at Harbaugh, I just think the lack of transparency is exhausting and selfish and fucked up, and if what is being said is true, his comments earlier this year about being UM's coach in 2023 are at best disingenuous and at worst dishonest.

Last year was completely fair.  He was transparent, he told players he was potentially interested in the NFL and would be looking around.  He can do whatever he wants, but a lack of acknowledgment that this type of uncertainty affects a lot of people beyond himself - the players, the assistant coaches, the administration, etc is childish.

He very well knows by now that these rumors are out there.  Sitting around and waiting for the potential right NFL offer instead of making a decision and leaving UM in limbo is selfish.

This isn't his first go around, literally had the same uncertainty last year, but at least there was transparency there.  The one thing I always loved about Jim was his authenticity.  If, big if, reports are true, then it feels he was not honest about being done with his NFL flirtations, nor were his comments earlier this year completely transparent.

Regarding other coaches, this isn't about wishing for another coach - I think Jim is an amazing coach.  It's simply about having some expected stability and dedication to the program that won't waiver at the end of each year.

Exactly this.  He's already given his adamant assurances that he is done looking around . . . and now it appears he may be looking around.  This will happen each year.

If he intends to stay, he needs to quash these rumors right now and not take calls from NFL people.  No "nobody knows what the future holds" stuff.  He controls this future. It's not a chance circumstance, it's a decision he makes or does not make.  So make a freaking decision and stick by it.

“NFL teams may be interested in Harbaugh” and “Harbaugh would not immediately turn down the right offer” is not at all the same thing as “he may be looking around”.

The NFL is a league that loves hiring retreads and Harbaugh is a guy that actually took a team to a Super Bowl. There are a lot dumber names that always show up on the rumor list every time there is an NFL coaching vacancy.

This is the price for having a coach that can legitimately claim success in the NFL on his resume.

I completely agree with everything you say here. However I don’t expect every HS recruits to take the time to parse the language and see the difference, especially with coaches from other schools pushing the "Harbaugh's gonna leave" narrative.

The only way for this to end in UM's favor would have been a clear statement of disinterest on Monday. Every day this goes on is more damage done to UM - especially if he STAYS, as it will be used against UM in many future recruiting cycles.

If the coaches can’t find a way to turn “yeah, your coach is gonna turn up in NFL rumors because he’s coached in a Super Bowl and none of these other dudes can say that” into a positive recruiting pitch, that’s on them.

My point is the rumors are going to be there whether Harbaugh actually considers leaving or not. “What bullshit might Ryan Day make up to recruits” should not be part of the ADs evaluation process on the coaches.

Agree completely.
He doesn’t owe the fans anything, but he gave his word that he was done looking. He’s a weird dude, but his upside is that he’s the rare kinda guy that we trust when he says he’s not gonna do this stuff.
So, if he’s really looking, he needs to make the jump back.
No snark, no bitterness, but he can’t keep doing this. Choose one.

I was continually surprised how many people here over the last 364 days or so took Jim at his word that he was done looking. It's abundantly clear Jim either wants a Super Bowl or/and just prefers the NFL coaching gig to college coaching. He just said a few weeks ago he wasn't interested in going anywhere and now there's this stuff again

If there we no legs to it, Jim could quash the rumors this morning with a press release or maybe even one where Warde says they're working on a new longterm gig, but they won't because the rumors are true. Jim will go when there's a good match with an NFL team and it's going to hamper recruiting big time when we should be killing it

He clearly wants to go to the NFL and he clearly is over the college game, whether it be player turnover, staff turnover, portal, NIL, whatever. I know he said last year was it, but he can easily say the college game is wearing on him so it’s time to go. I’m guessing if some offer comes he’s going.

There is no stability in football coaching unless you choose it. He will never be rid of NFL opportunity because of his past success in the league. And so he will always be tempted whether he goes now or not. He's beaten Ohio State twice in a row. He's won two Big Ten titles. A Super Bowl is bigger than a national championship.

Even Michigan fans aren't sure about whether pursuing a national championship is what this program is ultimately about. He's paid his dues here. He's nearly averaged double digit wins during his tenure. If he wants to go, then leave, and go with God. Michigan will survive and keep on keeping on. That's what winning institutions do. He wants to compete against his brother. Good, go.

This annual drama is beyond aggravating. Make a damn choice and live with it.

and i still think that.  but all this hand-wringing is pathetic.  it is nothing any of us can influence and we're like a bunch of children wondering if santa is going to come, or go, or take all the gifts, or put us on the naughty list.  gracious.

Pretty sure about guy I know & what he stands for, but, no, not sure about NFL. This insanity is precisely why you don’t WANT to know anything other than who your buddy is character-wise. He said he’d be coaching UM in ‘23. Bank on it. He’s not chasing money. He’s chasing titles.

go to bed.  santa is staying in the north pole.  your gifts will get there on time.

good night my dear fellow michigan fans.

Here is how Webster defines social media, “forms of electronic communication (such as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (such as videos)”.   Sounds a little bit like MgoBlog.

Happy New Year.    Only looked it up because I was genuinely curious as to whether Mgoblog would be considered social media.   I had never really considered the question, but since I come here for many of the reasons I would go to more general social media sites, it seemed to me that it would be, While I did find a few dissenting opinions, there seemed to be a general agreement that message boards are social media.

The wikipedia definition might not fit (since user profiles are a key component.   But I would have assumed that it is the sharing of user generated content including those generated through on-line interactions that really defines social media.

Social media are interactive media technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, interests, and other forms of expression through virtual communities and networks.[1][2] While challenges to the definition of social media arise[3][4] due to the variety of stand-alone and built-in social media services currently available, there are some common features:[2]

  1. Social media are interactive Web 2.0 Internet-based applications.[2][5]
  2. User-generated content—such as text posts or comments, digital photos or videos, and data generated through all onlineinteractions—is the lifeblood of social media.[2][5]
  3. Users create service-specific profiles for the website or app that are designed and maintained by the social media organization.[2][6]
  4. Social media helps the development of online social networks by connecting a user's profile with those of other individuals or groups.[2][6]

I know this board has a fetish for JUB but I’ve honestly had enough of him. His books are third rate and he relishes his self-anointed position as “Michigan potentate” a bit too much for my liking. His act is tired even if he’s right about this one.
