Damn - how did we miss this when the news broke!? I can't believe this big of news about the contract negotiations for the coach of the #1 team in the country -- tweeted by one of that team's most prominent insiders/journalists -- was not previously discussed on that team's biggest message board on its biggest blog! Wow!
December 8th, 2023 at 1:24 PM ^
It always blows my mind when posts like this go up. Especially from someone who’s been here for a long time.
I mean how? How would you arrive at the conclusion that a huge story about Michigan that was all over national news got missed by everyone here for 24 hours?
This was posted less than 2 minutes after the story initially broke, as are ALL significant stories involving Michigan.

We're all aging. Sometimes the brain fails to work right. Along those lines...
My filter is in tatters. I'm one bad post away from Bolivia or a visit from the Secret Service.

WELL, he checked the sideboard and it wasn't in the top 7 posts, so he didn't see it...

How many flies can congregate around such a horse?
December 8th, 2023 at 12:57 PM ^
At least as many as the Big House can hold.

So does that make 10 @ $110M

The Harbaugh effect. 2 offers in 2 days is enthusiasm unknown to mankind.
December 8th, 2023 at 12:29 PM ^
He's not going to sign it. He wants to win a national championship this year and then go back to the NFL. The only real question is if they don't win it does he still just go back to the NFL anyways.
December 8th, 2023 at 1:02 PM ^
As much as I'd like your take to be a very wrong hot take, given the debacle that has been this year of uneven support from certain people within the chain of command, burgergate, signgate, etc., I wouldn't really blame Coach Harbaugh if this ultimately proves true.
While it would be a very human, and understandable reaction for Harbaugh to just peace out given NCAA hypocrisy, he's a weird dude and maybe he's comfortable sticking around for a few years "just because," "take that" NCAA. Fingers crossed.
The worst part, for me, should your prognostication prove accurate, is that those behind this hit piece will have ultimately succeeded in their goal (just in a different way than they schemed it).
December 8th, 2023 at 1:06 PM ^
You don't know that. Jim might be even more inclined to stay now because of the bullshit that's been thrown his way. Could totally see him signing an extension as an F you to all those who thought this might drive him away.
December 8th, 2023 at 1:17 PM ^
I wouldn't sign it if the language basically allows Michigan to not honor the deal based on the flimsy NCAA investigation. That is unfair to Jim and honestly Michigan shouldn't negotiate a deal like that. Either they are backing him or not. It just seems some(one) doesn't want Jim there. Michigan conceding like they have been has given the NCAA more power than tbey actually have.
December 8th, 2023 at 2:12 PM ^
You have to fold in a little positive commentary to make this whole thing work. Constant and endless correcting everyone and negativity make it look like you are just trolling.
The good skeptical but still pro-Michigan commenters give a little of the bright side sometimes, and the best trolls build up some political capital before trashing the program so it takes longer to notice them.
December 8th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
There's a group of posters that love to take the negative side especially when it comes to Harbaugh leaving. They've had him gone every year he's been here. You can only imagine their position during the 2020 situation.

OVERTAKING ASS

No way?!
December 8th, 2023 at 12:33 PM ^
If they were going to give him a new offer today they could have at least bumped it to $56M.
December 8th, 2023 at 12:35 PM ^
Deja vu all over again.

This is the same "report" everyone has posted for 2 weeks.

Jim's going to upgrade to a zero turn mower with that kind of payday!.
December 8th, 2023 at 12:50 PM ^
There was much OUTRAGE! on Full Ride program this morning...
"Used to be when you cheated, you got fired immediately! Now, you get a big contract! Unbelievable."
December 9th, 2023 at 12:01 AM ^
Neuheisel doesn’t like Harbaugh because Jim allegedly punked him while shaking hands after Stanford beat one of his teams. Something like an over aggressive handshake/slap on the back with a “How’d you like THAT, Ricky?”
The co-host, Chris Childers, is a clownshow prone to faux outrage and overreaction.
December 8th, 2023 at 12:51 PM ^
Now I think people are just reposting things that have already been posted because they are masochists and love getting negbanged.

That's a realistic amount of money, which is sort of crazy. Obviously a big payday but I also assume a couple other coaches will get bumps as well and this will look quite reasonable and still leave some money for staff raises and other needs.
December 8th, 2023 at 1:56 PM ^
Hopefully its absurd money set aside for the staff. I know Harbaugh is either UM or the NFL, so it's not like $$ is a driving force, but in this sport it's a reflection of respect/status.
December 8th, 2023 at 1:14 PM ^
The tweet was at 11:07 AM YESTERDAY and it didn't occur to you that it was probably posted soon after that?
20 min seems a bit late for this board.
December 8th, 2023 at 1:18 PM ^
Definitely not MgoMorningWood
December 8th, 2023 at 1:19 PM ^
Given that signing day is fast approaching -- in addition to portal time -- logic dictates that Harbaugh would have every incentive to sign asap if he plans to stay. But he hasn't. Do the math.
December 8th, 2023 at 1:26 PM ^
Should be 5 years at 60 million
December 8th, 2023 at 1:35 PM ^
Maybe it's just me, but I would be fine with a lifetime contract at amounts that puts him at whatever would be the highest paid salary in the B1G. He's earned it.
December 8th, 2023 at 1:55 PM ^
if both Jim and Day (lol) get clauses to make them the highest paid in the conference, is there an infinite money loop that ends only when the endowments dry up?
only one way to find out.
December 8th, 2023 at 2:10 PM ^
Jim would still end up the highest paid compared to Day when you compare bonuses going forward.
December 8th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
Jim's contract should have an inflation clause, assuring he always makes $1 more than ohio state's head coach.
December 8th, 2023 at 1:38 PM ^
We've seen this movie before. If this goes as it has in the past, it will stay on the table until JH checks out all the NFL possibilities. Not trying to be negative, but this is what he does.
