Jordan Poole doing good things
For whatever reason, Poole isn't the most popular guy around here, but I think he deserves some credit today.
Playing really well for the Warriors lately. 19.3ppg his last 3 games, including 18 today against a great Jazz team.
Seems to be finding a nice role off the bench for GSW. Go Blue and let's hope he can keep it rolling.
I like what he did against Houston - an all-time memory!
Absolutely!
Lol. Was very confused at first but loved it. +1.
Swaggy.
I also don't understand the dislike for Jordan Poole. Do I think he should've stayed one more season? Yes. I think he would've done really really well under Coach Juwan Howard. But he got drafted in the 1st round by one of the best franchises in the NBA (since Joe Lacob took over).
And he's playing very well recently.
Another stint in the G-League seems to have done the trick for him. But Steve Kerr also playing him over Brad Wanamaker helps.
(Same thing happened last season. After a G-League stint, Poole played well after the All-Star Break.)
In one sense, this is really Poole's rookie season since so many starters were injured for the Warriors last season.
This season, Warriors are competitive.
Considering the quality of the opponent, Warriors probably played the best game of their season today.
I think some of the hate comes from him seeming like he was mentally checked out or not giving it his all during his sophomore year
The hate for Poole here is because he is generally regarded as the prime reason that drove Beilein to the NBA. For some reason, Jordan gets the credit for that...
Anybody who believes that should get their head-checked. Also, Poole stayed around until his sophomore year and he was a 1st round pick -- aka he probably accomplished all that would be reasonable to expect at UM. If any straw broke the camel's back (aka Belein) you would have to look at Iggy - who left after his freshman year and went 47th.
Poole's projections were mid 2nd round pick.
Warriors took a chance and it hasn't worked out yet.
He may have had a few good games recently but last time I checked his stats, his shooting numbers were the worst on the team.

He went down to the g-league this most recent time because they wanted to get him minutes because he wasn't getting them on the main squad. He's had some good games this year when he's gotten the opportunity, but he wasn't being regularly utilized in the rotation. The game before he got sent down this most recent time was when he dropped 16 (I think) vs the Pistons. After the game, the rest of the team was lobbying hard for him not to be sent down to the g-league, but I don't think there was a choice because of how personnel moves work. Jordan had a really good attitude about going back down though and treated it as an opportunity to hoop more.
his season would have been cut short by the scamdemic anyway so not really a big deal that he left early IMO.
good luck to him in all he does, was a dynamic personality on a great team.
Why is he not "the most popular guy around here"? Did I miss something?
IIRC, I think as the 18-19 season went on he and Beilein seemed to get lost in translation a lot. It felt like Poole was mentally out the door and not trying half the time. Then he left for the draft earlier than I think a lot people thought he "should" have (nonsense, obvi), and that was just the icing on the cake. I don't think its the majority of people by any stretch, but it was an unceremonious ending to a promising first season.
Ah, got it. Yes, I do remember in the 2018-2019 season that he didn't exactly realize a lot of the potential it seemed like he had after 2017-2018. But he always struck me as a good kid who would never do anything to embarrass the program. Regarding his decision to head to the NBA after his sophomore season: I think he could have benefited from a year in Juwan's system, but I would never begrudge a kid for doing what he thinks is best for his career. He did get drafted in the first round by a great franchise known for its player development and he's become a solid contributor for them, so it looks like the decision worked out for him.
also recall many thinking him leaving early was one of the straws that broke Beilein and pushed him to nba
when it was really more the AD and lack of respect for what JB had built (reliable source)
Jordan was pretty clear he wasn’t interested in being in school any more and obviously made the choice that suited him. Lots of fans don’t like it when a talented kid decides to leave early.
I think it’s mostly due to his sophomore year where he became a black hole on offense fairly often and could become a chucker even when he was ice cold. He also took off a ton of plays on the defensive end. If you’re going to play as cocky as he did, you can’t really do that and still have fans on your side that much.
Plus, I think a lot of people soured on that season (white hot start and a sputtering end) and the stars on it, who both probably needed another season (Iggy and Poole), while losing the best coach in program history at season’s end after being utterly dominated and dismantled in the tournament.
But we will always have his Houston moment.
yeah, there was a big fat straw man hanging around. you just missed it.
Good for him.
(I like Poole.)
Go, Blue.
Poole hit that shot against Houston. I will never speak ill of him.
Good for Jordan. He did a lot for Michigan, the negative stuff is nonsense.
Jordan was the #2 or #3 scorer in the G-League last month. His O rating wasn't great but he got his (Iggy was top 10 also I believe also, and Zavier was top 10 assist man)
crazy I completely forgot about Iggy
He wound up making a great business decision (even though the whole board thought it was foolish), so there’s no reason for any fan having any ill will.
He made a poor decision.
He got extremely lucky that one team took a chance on him.
Good for JP. Thanks for posting this.
The shot against Houston. I’ll never forget. Go Blue! And blessings to your continued success in the NBA. Always will pull for M players.
Even Draymond giving his praise, so he must be doing something right
i thought he should have stuck around, but anytime you can be drafted in the first round, its hard to make any argument against leaving
I read the other day Kerr said he’s earned more minutes.
good for him,
I think people are just upset he left early, but last year would have been junior year anyway. he wouldn't have been a 4 year guy
happy for all he did while at M and wish him the best
