I think Coach stays as long as he's enjoying be Coach for us. I think money is secondary to his enjoying being the Wolverines HC.

His salary is seriously deficient relative to his peers at the Top10 schools. Do I think that gets corrected before the renewal date? Don't know but I do care. Warde needs to get going here and just make it happen.

Were I a betting man? I'd wager he stays past this year.

I think Harbaugh will sign a new contract at the end of the season, but there will be an out for a couple specific NFL teams. My guess is the Bears are not one of those teams. But I could see Harbaugh staying here another year or two but at some point will try the NFL once again.

Of course there is tension.  Michigan has been the 2nd best team in college football for 2 1/2 seasons and our coach makes less than Ryan Day and isn’t even in the top ten of coaching salaries. So F Warde.

PS - Bears fans are seriously delusional 😂

"Bears fans are seriously delusional."   I regret that I only have one thumbs up to give for this comment.

I live in the Chicago area - I have personally known players and coaches - there are a number of "D" words to describe them - and delusional is one of them - dysfunctional also describes aspects of the organization and priorities.

More fans than I can count actually think Justin Fields was the answer prior to the start of this season.   Last I checked - something called an "offensive line" helps the team execute its plays.  Lacking a solid OL has been an issue for over a decade.

I'll cheer for the Bears when I know someone on the team - beside that, it's a clown show.

Harbaugh is going to be 60. The NFL now is obsessed with young coordinators. Ben Johnson, Eric Bienemy( going to be a lot pressure for someone to hire him if Washington’s offense continues to do well), Shane Waldron…to name a few.

Harbaugh hasn’t coach in the NFL for almost a decade. Different league. Bears passed on him multiple times and I doubt they go for him now.

I could see them going after Johnson and drafting Caleb and Marvin if they remain at 1 and 2.

Bienemy with his track record as an OC at KC and Washington as well as knowledge of Mahomes would fit perfectly with the Chargers.

From what I have gathered Harbaugh wants to stay. Bacon and Harbaugh’s lawyer friend have said as much on Twitter.

All this is to say that is that it isn’t a foregone conclusion that he will leave. He has the program humming and has the chance to be a coaching legend at his alma mater. Could he leave? Sure. But I wouldn’t live in fear of it just yet.

People assume he goes IMO for two psychological reasons:

(1) It fits neatly into a self-curated narrative of "Well if we win the national title, I won't care if he leaves after that", and it somehow helps people to cement their faith in winning the national title while at the same time not worrying about what happens after the season.

(2) Assuming the worst outcome as the baseline makes it easier to deal with the rumors and drama that dominated the last two off-seasons and will probably again next off-season.

He's twice said he'd stay as long as the school would have him and once said these games were over. And yet we're still doing this annoying dance. It reeks of an integrity vacuum.

How much more money does a human need to be paid; what's he really going to do with millions more? Anyone getting paid millions a year and thinking even more will result in satisfaction or happiness is fooling themselves.

Either stand by your word and squash the rumors when they come up, or admit you lied (twice) and that you'll be job shopping every year.

This is an absurd take.  Harbaugh has not engaged in any annoying dance.  He flirted with the NFL after 2021 and said that was it.  He then did not interview for or seek any NFL job after 2022 and even rejected Denver’s feelers and apparently a 20 million dollar offer last year.  Simply put, Harbaugh has lived up to his word after 2021.  It’s not his fault if the NFL media types make shit up about him leaving and he repeatedly squashed rumors last year . . . Over and over again.

Go dance by yourself and troll elsewhere.

I don’t think he’s leaving. I think he loves this. His family loves Ann Arbor (for the most part, anyways). He’s 59. People also never thought he was coming. But I’ve been hopeful before.

Was this post made before or after all three insider sites almost in unison said that Harbaugh and Michigan are close to a new contract?

Here is how I know Jim isn’t going anywhere because most of you think he is gone.

What's done is done. I thought we moved from this subject. If Jim can win it all this season and Michigan achieves the objective: To win the CFB National Title and go 15-0, then there is a good chance that he'll move on and go back to the NFL.

It seems that the auditioning of Sharrone, Jay Harbaugh and Mike Hart during the first three games of the season could be a clue to the who could be the next HC at Michigan come Fall 2024.

I get why superficially there is hate for Warde.   But the truth is that Michigan athletics is the envy of most universities.  Successful on the field and at the bank.

I am as big a fan of Jim as anyone around here but the lack of a contract is probably as much on him as Warde.   I doubt money is the issue.   I'm sure Warde is tired of the constant flirtation with the NFL and wants some guarantee that Jim will be here for 5 years without interviews with the Vikings, Bears,...

Jim Harbaugh is a lot of things... He apparently has an itch for the NFL which I can't blame him. He was inches from being a Super Bowl champion the top of his love and profession. The problem I have with the entire thing is I truly believe Jim is a man of his word. Especially what he says to the media is always calculated and almost planned. Him Saying he is done with the NFL and will stay as long as the school will have him I took to mean just that. His actions do not seem like that to me. I do not think he is Nick Saban type that he will be the coach today and is gone tomorrow. However maybe its how coaching transition works. I don't think anyone knows or can predict what James Joseph is thinking or planning. I'm not sure he knows but I do think he is a man of his word and have a hard time believing he has said what he has and just up and leaves. I can't reconcile it. Jim has done what he set out to do. He came back won two Big Ten titles and put Michigan back in its place in the conference and nationally. Not sure we can ask for much more. I think he has a strong coaching tree and when we look back in 20 years we are going to be amazed how many Jim Harbaugh prints are around the country in coaching circles.

Yeah, I don't think there is love lost between Harbaugh and Warde.  Imo Warde lost a lot of this when the b10 officials were flat out screwing this program over 2016-2018..  And Warde did nothing.  In 2018 in the NW game when they called holding on our RB getting tackled on the read option that took away a big 1st down in a game we were behind and it was into the 4th qtr..  Warde's comment after the game was, well I think we need to call the Big10 office to talk about this.

If you didn't notice most of the bigten bs officiating stopped after 2020 and covid.  But that is when the rumors started that Michigan/Osu were invited to the SEC.  The total bs that was happening stopped with regards to officials.  Not all as some is just officials being officials but the blatant stuff stopped...

I wouldn't be surprised if he bolts this year after (hopefully) winning it all. As much as we all like to romanticize the college game, the NFL is king, and a hyper competitive coach like Harbaugh who was so close to winning a Super Bowl has gotta be itching to add that to his lifetime accomplishments.

I agree with other posters that this is just click bait.  That said,  do whatever you can to keep Harbaugh.  My hope, and expectation, is that Harbaugh has a Gary Moeller or Lloyd Carr coach in waiting ready to step in and carry on what Harbaugh is creating. A national championship would be great, but a program/legacy would be better.   I mean, who was the better coach Lloyd or Bo? Which legacy would you rather have?  (Doctor stuff aside.)

You do what you can to retain the person who got us here. You don't fall for the fools understanding that one of our coordinators will do just as well.

Was David Shaw or Willie Taggert as good as Jim Harbaugh?

We have one of the best coaches in football not college but football and so many of the posters here communicate as if it is no big deal if he walks.

If Coach Harbaugh leaves without it being communicated to the fan base the extensive lengths gone through to try and retain him then I am done as a Michigan fan because that is a level of incompetence I do not expect from this school.

First, make him the top paid college coach in the nation. Second, listen to him on what will allow him to be satisfied being here and to retire at Michigan then work to give it to him. Third, demonstrate your loyalty to the man. If he has a problem with Warde then fire Warde. Jim Harbaugh is the leader of the athletic department, most of us don't give a second thought to the other athletic programs. Finally, squash all dissent, at this point Harbaugh should have the full respect of the alumni and athletic department employees and if he doesn't then the problem lies with them.

Bottom Line:  If Warde does not get a contract done with Harbaugh, he should be fired immediately.  He can then join the list with Dave Brandon as the worst ever Michigan AD.

I don't want to argue with anyone here because I have no information. But I haven't seen solid information in anyone else's hands, either.

The usual arguments based on uninformed assumptions we see all over the internet and media aren't compelling. Who's got solid information based on things actually said by JH?
