Huh, another game I want both teams to lose. Been a few of those today...
December 30th, 2022 at 11:40 PM ^
Normally I would feel the same way as you about these two teams, but I quickly found myself rooting for Joe Milton to succeed tonight, and by extension, Tennessee (a team I don't think I've ever rooted for previously).
OTOH, I'm rooting for laryngitis to beat the snot out of Joe Tessitore's voice. I honestly would rather listen to Beth Mowins doing the play-by-play than Tessitore.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:47 PM ^
Honestly, you’re the first listener to ever type these words

Yeah, I upvoted him and then removed it upon reading the end of the comment
December 31st, 2022 at 8:31 AM ^
Agree! I was hovering over the upvote button, and then that last sentence. Oof...

I go to a Michigan and Tennessee game each year. My brother went to UT. I have a good time in Knoxville. I have nothing but good experiences there with good fun people. It was nice to see Milton have a good game and that Tennessee offense is fun to watch. I only want Tennessee to lose when they play Michigan and I tell all of those VOLS, "the right guy got the Heisman in '97."
December 30th, 2022 at 11:14 PM ^
Clemson being a top 10 team is wild. They are awful.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:39 PM ^
Agreed. If you told me any top 10 team would run just shy of 100 plays in a game, only score 14, and be down 14, I’d call you a lunatic.
December 31st, 2022 at 12:19 AM ^
Clemson won't be top 10 after tonight. Remember when the CFP committee ranked Clemson above Michigan? Good times.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:17 PM ^
I'll keep JJ
December 30th, 2022 at 11:18 PM ^
did anyone have "Dabo would try a 4th fg after the kicker missed the first 3", on their card?
December 30th, 2022 at 11:55 PM ^
He has more faith in that kicker than he has in Jesus
December 31st, 2022 at 8:12 AM ^
Well let's be clear here, in general, faith is dubious thing.
December 31st, 2022 at 9:10 AM ^
I was disappointed that the Clemson QB didn’t throw it away on the last play of the second half. They could’ve missed yet another field goal if he had managed the clock better.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:18 PM ^
Happy to see he’s found a home and a place where he might be able to start next year. Or at least I presume he’s got another year of eligibility left. Didn’t work out for him here but it looks like his transfer worked out for both Michigan and himself.
December 31st, 2022 at 3:58 AM ^
Congratulations to him. It's amazing how much more success a quarterback will have when he learns to hit what he's throwing at.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:20 PM ^
Go Blue. Win the game.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:20 PM ^
Impressive.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:20 PM ^
And drops in another bomb for a TD. Good for him.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:46 PM ^
So weird to hear the Yale fight song every time Tennessee scores (1:53 mark).
December 31st, 2022 at 8:36 AM ^
Holy shit. That was, uhh, terrible! And hilarious that only 10 people were in the seats listening - clearly the nannies, caretakers, and parents that couldn't find an excuse to not be there...
December 30th, 2022 at 11:22 PM ^
So pleased for him. He wasn't ready for the job in A2 in 2020. But he accepted being #2 at UT after Hooker took over, instead of doing a Clovis and transferring to 4 schools in 4 years.
That last pass for a TD was what we hoped to see vs. Sparty in 2020.
We have JJ for next year and UT has Joe III - life is great and so is the beer tonight!
December 30th, 2022 at 11:34 PM ^
The announcers said that Joe felt he had people who "cared about him" at Tennessee and that's what swayed him to stick it out.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:39 AM ^
He's pretty good friends with Hendon Hooker and his family. Apparently, they've taken him in as family and do as much for him as they do for their own son. Great to have people like that helping out when you're a kid several hundred miles from home.
Don't take whatever Tessitore said as a slight towards Michigan. Give the credit to Hooker and his family.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:22 PM ^
JJ is the man, but Milton could throw a ball through a car wash and it wouldn’t get wet!
December 30th, 2022 at 11:30 PM ^
JJ is the much better quarterback though
December 30th, 2022 at 11:43 PM ^
December 31st, 2022 at 8:46 AM ^
Yes. I fail to understand the point of UMich2016's post. It's like he didn't read yours carefully.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:25 PM ^
Good for Joe. He apparently has kept working and developing.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:25 PM ^
Good for him.
We can, and should, be happy for him and still glad we have JJ. (I suspect this will be useful when watching Iowa results next year.)
December 30th, 2022 at 11:26 PM ^
Meanwhile, this is probably the best Tenn D tonight since 1998.
Joe doing his job is cool too.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:26 PM ^
Apparently Peyton Manning won the National title in 1998 with Tennessee despite being in the NFL.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:32 PM ^
Always a good trivia "question" involving that season/championship team.
Tee Martin.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:27 PM ^
Good to see. He didn’t break through at Michigan, but wish him success. Wish we’ll for all Former Michigan players but still hope TN more time in the dessert.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:35 PM ^
Always pull for guys who played for UM but maybe starred elsewhere. Zach C at UCLA, etc.
Joe posted this upon his exit:
"I want to thank coach [Jim] Harbaugh for giving me that opportunity to come play for a program with lots of tradition," he wrote. "I have bonds with my brothers that will last forever. I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer with three years of eligibility.
December 31st, 2022 at 9:08 AM ^
He also convinced Giles Jackson and Xavier Worthy to transfer, if the rumors are to be believed.
December 31st, 2022 at 4:59 AM ^
I would also like to see Tennessee spend more time in the dessert, but I suspect some of them may enjoy the experience.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:32 PM ^
Cade K looks like he would have benefitted from being the starting QB all year. These mistakes tonight could have been worked out vs. Va Tech.
I'm really happy JH and team didn't rush JJ into the lineup as a starter last year. Our Cade Mc was ready to lead a team and allow JJ to be a great starter this year, especially end of year.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:33 PM ^
You can tell he still doesn’t have much pocket awareness or instincts as a runner, but I’ll be darn that kid can throw a football. Fun seeing him play.
Someone remind me if he talked trash on his way out or not. I’ll be a neutral party if he did, and rooting for him if not.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:58 PM ^
No trash talk. He was grateful and thankful for his time with Michigan.
December 31st, 2022 at 1:33 AM ^
Should’ve given him the benefit of the doubt 👍🏻
December 31st, 2022 at 8:23 AM ^
He threw an orange > 100 yards. Still think he would have been a helluva relief pitcher
December 30th, 2022 at 11:33 PM ^
Fantastic coaching there by Heupel to come out with a 4th down play ready and force Dabo to call another TO with a mass substitution going on.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:38 PM ^
How can you not love a player called SQUIRREL? Go vols!
Do anyone have the Christmas vacation - SQUIRREL!!!! - video ready to link?
December 30th, 2022 at 11:41 PM ^
No issue with Joe Milton one way or another. But fuck Tennessee, consistently the sleaziest program with the most hateful fanbase. The Fulmer Cup lives. And fuck Peyton Manning, too.
December 31st, 2022 at 8:43 AM ^
You say this knowing full well that MSU exists.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:40 PM ^
The color scheme of these teams on the same field is making me feel a little queasy. They weren't kidding about this being the "orange" bowl.
December 30th, 2022 at 11:45 PM ^
Wow, UT first 11 win season in almost two decades.
We're 25-2 the last two years. God Bless the Queen/King and JH!
December 30th, 2022 at 11:53 PM ^
I’m very happy for Milton’s success. He left the BIG10 and went to a weaker, easier, conference the SEC.
He proved he was good enough to be a starter and won an orange bowl. Good job Milton!
December 30th, 2022 at 11:54 PM ^
Way to go, Joe!
