I don't understand why we're committed to this conference. To play ohio state, who stooped this low because Ryan Day couldn't stand being John Cooper? Or to play MSU who enjoys beating players with helmets on and off the field? Or to play PSU who we've only been playing for 25 years? Or to stay with all these teams who want anything but to see us dominating the conference?

There's only two reasons to stay: money and tradition. I would think both are headed out the window since we're becoming an 18-team conference next year and the prospect of a super-conference with all the big teams playing outside of the ncaa and without all the small school sharing revenue would be even bigger money. So, again, why are we committed to this conference?

This fucker Petitti has a vendetta.

Wonder if he’s boys with Jed York….I’m sure they ran in similar private school Rivera Country Club circles there in California.

I am all about putting all these craziness behind us BUT I was under the impression that we got the Tom Brady of law firms and this is all they could do?

I am sickened by the turn of events, do not understand it, and wish UM had not capitulated.

What little comfort I can find is in recalling what happened in deflategate.  Although the situation differs in many ways, recall that Tom Brady took a 4 game suspension, even though the injustice was palpable.  One big difference is that he took it at the beginning of the season, to avoid having it come late and interfere with playoff games.  Harbaugh is taking it at a very risky time.

Still, Brady and the players' association did not let the matter drop.  18 months later they took the matter to court but lost.  I vaguely recall that his case was not judged on the basis of whether he did anything wrong but on some kind of procedural issue.

Ultimately, when Brady and the players' association lost, they could have appealed to the Supreme Court.  But even if they knew that Brady's innocence could be proven, maybe the courts only cared about whether the NFL's procedures were acceptable.  Everyone knows that Brady won the Super Bowl anyway the year he was suspended.  He found a way to respond to the charges and prove others wrong.  At this point, the players hopefully have resolved to do the same.

Yes. This might have been the best possible outcome for the situation. We will eventually find out if it was or wasn't.

Contrary to all the "insider" information, there might be more damning information that we don't know about. If that is the case, W&C could've said, that there is a small percentage chance that Michigan is getting a TRO. Also, while fighting for this TRO, it'll keep Michigan in the negative spotlight, distract the team and possibly bring forth new evidence that could hurt Michigan.

Quite simply, W&C could've recommended to take the 3 games, they weren't seeing the suspension being shortened.

Thank God. Allows everybody to focus on winning out, without the constant distraction of lawsuits, leaks, counter-arguments, and constant media attention.

Put the story to bed, the team can use the suspension as motivation and to focus its anger, and we can move forward.

Go Blue!

This feels so wrong to concede to the angry mob. What happened to Michigan v Everybody? Bet? Ono's supportive tweets? Manuel's angry letter?

What did UM get for dropping this litigation?

--Did UM avoid embarrassment, like losing the TRO hearing? Hardly seems embarrassing to fight for your principles. Or disclosure of potentially new incriminating details? If there are any such details, they’ll be released anyways by the B1G leakers.

--Did UM get something in return? Assurances that the suspension will satisfy both the B1G and NCAA so that UM can put this to bed and move on? That might not be so bad. Assurances that the B1G will change its commissioner or pursue other teams for violations? Dream on!

Or did UM simply cut bait having invested too much political capital based on new information that made proceeding futile?

So little information that it's impossible to know. But I do know that right now, it just feels like institutional failure.

Few things:

Could it be as easy as they were tipped off the judge wasn’t going to grant them the TRO?

If they presented Michigan with new info about other coaches knowing I’d imagine they would’ve been suspended ASAP.

B1G/Harbaugh/Michigan/NCAA could’ve reached some sort agreement that these 3 games along with the first 3gms were punishment enough and once the NCAA investigation is complete Harbaugh won’t be suspended. Ideally in this situation Harbaugh signs the extension soon.

Finally just beat Ohio St so Petetti has to hand Michigan the B1G Championship trophy . We as fans at least deserve that.

The only two scenarios where this makes any sense is that the conference had info that nobody here would be happy to learn OR the conference threatened to keep this going indefinitely (threaten a B1GCG spot, seek playoff banning, etc). That's it. Nothing makes sense beyond that.

You don't settle because you feel like Moore is a fine alternative at HC. You don't settle because, upon further thought, you just want this to be done with. Etc. You don't settle now and for those terms unless one or both of the above is true.

So either this went above Stalions and someone in that upper-staff knew or the conference was not backing down no matter what and were promised that UM would not be invited to any B1GCG (and maybe a fight to get them banned from the playoff, too). In either case they decided to just take the 3 games and a closing of the B1G investigation. That's a classic "settlement" and settlements rarely come from both or either parties in a lawsuit suddenly feeling like sharing some goodwill. No, something changed.

I guess I'll add a third possibility that this judge already told the parties which side he'll favor amd in this case it would be The B1G. Maybe? I don't think that's as likely because you don't put your sword away and lock it in your closet because a single, local judge ruled against you. No, I still think one of the two I floated is true and maybe both.

I don't think that's as likely because you don't put your sword away and lock it in your closet because a single, local judge ruled against you.

I'm not following you here. The purpose of this litigation was stop the suspension; if the ruling Friday was in favor of the conference it was never going to get overturned in time for OSU...and at that point there's nothing left. The punishment's been served, what can a court do about it?

That's lost when it comes to getting Jim on the sideline. I'm assuming the settlement ends everything for both parties. That's any B1G action against UM in the future (sans new info) and any legal action taken by UM in the future by way of escaping contracts early, suing for defamation, etc.

In fact, the less we assume is bound to this settlemen (even by off the record, verbal agreements) the more we can assume the worst case scenario that someone or some few in the upper-staff knew.

So "locking your sword away" is in reference to ending any and all fight, not just getting a TRO for Jim to coach. Either of the two most likely floated possibilities make sense here and especially if it's both. That way the settlement isn't about Jim coaching for any one or two games but making all potential punishment go away beyond that when it was increasingly likely.

I should add that it makes even more sense in the light that this commissioner clearly has full authority on the matter. Want to ban UM from the B1GCG? We have the votes. Want to send a letter to The Playoff Committee? Go ahead. Want to hammer Jim next year and keep this TRO game of back&forth going? Sure. Etc.

So it becomes a game of getting the TRO (maybe every time) or losing your case and having the B1G go in raw. It becomes a game of risk where not getting the TRO effectively bans your team from the B1GCG and possibly more. So you don't take that risk and accept the settlement.

Not good.  The door is still open (and would have been left open either way) for the Big 10 to be given additional information and open another case blocking Michigan from the BTCG.  TP wasn't playing by the rules earlier, why would think so now unless it was just your best deal.

I just don't see how there could be anything of substance left in the Big 10 attack.  This deal was because the judge wasn't going rule in Michigan's favor.

Just catching up to this news after a nice day on the golf course. I'm honestly kind of gutted. Speechless. Can't believe after all of the statements released by Warde, Ono and their respected lawyers the last few weeks that this is what it came down to. A last minute surrender.

At the end of the day the turtle went back into its shell.

I'm guessing we'll never see that new contract extension either. Cause why should we have nice things? Jim more than likely is gone after this shit.

Case closed? Yeah not even close.

Just wait until this summer when the NCAA partners with the B1G Ten and issues some ridiculous multi-season postseason ban and we just gladly bend over and take it like we are some dime hooker on Woodward Ave.

So before I read any of the posts I will give my first reactions to the settlement.  Coach got the B1G to admit they have NO evidence of his involvement with sign stealing.  That’s a big f..king deal and it validates what Coach and the school has said.  Then Coach says regardless of that truth I will accept the 3 game suspension for the betterment of my players and my school.  He just took the high ground away from the haters, all those haters must be so pissed.  Coach is also pumping up his team by saying you guys with the other coaches have this, you guys are Americas team, you guys will prevail.  A master move in motivation even if some think not.  Now watch how the team responds focused and tough taking no prisoners on Saturday.  Then watch the team and A2 fans come out to the OSU game that sets an attendance and TV record with tons of signs, hats sweaters etc Michigan vs Everybody.  The TV broadcast Fox and even ESPN can’t help but amp it up all in a positive manner.  The haters will still hate but the air has been let out of the ball.  Coach has set up a redemption story made for the ages and a slap in the face of the B1G and all haters of Michigan, a truly masterful move.  Now watch the school sign him to a long lucrative extension next week and the hype go off scale.  Someone at the Ross Business School needs to do a study and class on this for all to learn from.  Coach snatched personal defeat out of the Dragons mouth then spit on the Dragon and stomped on his toes.

Give me whatever your smoking cause this all but seals the deal that Coach Harbaugh is done with this conference and done with this team.

Trust me when I say this, but this 3 game "suspension" is just the tip of the iceberg.

He more than likely knows the NCAA is going to drop the hammer in theoff-season.

He gone.

But all that said, let's win these next few games him!
