A look at the recent history of the rivalry gives some credibility to the comment as much as I hate to say it. UM needs to start winning some of these games if it is to remain "The Game". Hopefully that begins next year. UM has made it more interesting the past couple of years and appears to be closing the gap. We shall see.

I was going to cite this exact rivalry, but my comment was already in TL;DR territory. (Not to split hairs, I think it was a 14-game streak. Could be wrong.) I get that they're sliiiightly unique, in that they're service academies, but there are far more similarities than differences in this comparison, IMO.

Rivalries are more than recent records and the narrow recollections of those who were, of late, in short pants. (No, I'm not old enough to use that term. But I'm gonna. Hey, it was popular the last time we won. Ha!) All that said, I empathize with others' bitterness, negativity, and pessimism--that's generally my bag, too.

In the end, it's up to Coach Harbaugh and a gaggle of pissed-off Wolverines to make this a teachable moment for those confused young men down south. If they fail--get ready for more (deserved) smack-talk.

Everyone acts shocked that Harbaugh isn't raking in top-50 RBs on a yearly basis to be in his pro-style offense, but why? A lot of these blue-chip RB recruits want to rake up stats, and being a Day 1 draft pick.

The last time M produced a 1000-yard rusher was Fitzgerald Toussaint in 2011 who went undrafted, and has been bouncing around being a career backup/practice squad member.

The last drafted M running back was Mike Hart in 2008 during the 5th round when most of these recruits were 8-9 years old. Unless, you count Denard Robinson who was drafted to be an "offensive weapon."

He's not wrong.  M has won once since 2004, and 1/2 of those games were more than a one score game.  It was during the Woody and Bo era, and the Carr and Tressel era, but this game has lost some of its edge because of the sprial M has been on in this series.  Until M starts winning some, don't even have to go on a streak, but start splitting the games, it is hard to argue with that.

These kids should come into programs and keep their freshmen mouths shut.  I know one thing. I'd rather have a degree from Michigan than his school, even if we'd lost 20 straight to those cretins.

This is almost as bad as blaming the refs for everything.

Yes we have outstanding academics at Michigan, we are not the only school that can say that.  Also we are talking about football that is all that matters here.  The truth is that a football player getting a degree at Ohio State and one getting a degree at Michigan is NO DIFFERENT.  The only difference is that one of them is gonna get 4 wins vs their rival and compete for championships.

Stanford is a better school than us but we don't look up to them here because we play better football, or at least we used to.

Since the purpose of a university is academics, I wouldn’t call it stupid to raise the point. It’s simply part of a different subset. A Michigan degree has tangible benefits, both in terms of prestige and lifetime income. A winning football team has some emotional benefits, but other than bragging rights, they’re not measurable for fans or alums. Just pride.

Exactly what is the difference in tangible benefits/lifetime income does a football player have with a degree in “General Studies” from the #4 public university in the nation vs. a degree in “Communications” from the #16 public university?

This is exactly my point.  The lifetime success in the workforce is going to depend on the student, not the university.  Everything you're saying about our degrees from Michigan can be said about Ohio State.

Just imagine winning a recruiting battle with Stanford and hearing their fans saying the kid was making a mistake by going to Michigan because our academics aren't up to par.  That's what you sound like comparing us to OSU or any Big10 school for that matter.

The topic is football. OSU is kicking UM's butt right now in it. Someone could say they'd rather have a Stanford or Duke degree than a UM degree and it would also be irrelevant when discussing the quality of their respective football teams.

cheats.  Period.

Neg me all you want.  But if they were on lhe level, Tressel would still have a job.  Steinbrenner getting Henson out of a Maize and Blue uniform is inidicative of showing the world that OSU sold their soul to beat us.

that has never gone away.

I look back at the Fab Five with a smile, and enjoyed the hell out of it.

If Woodson came out and wrote a tell all book, and admitted to receiving improper benefits would it erase the feelings you had in 1997 when we beat Washington State?

I would like to win the right way as well, but my point is, their fans don't give a shit.

Steinbrenner was a Williams alum who loved OSU football. Good guy. Met him once at a Williams alum event in NYC in the early 00's and asked him about signing Henson. He just chuckled, wouldn't give an answer.

In one sense it's not a rivalry at all because they're playing by a different set of rules than we are. The NCAA's abdication of its supposed enforcer role has distorted the landscape past any hope of a level playing field, I think.

Not saying we're perfect, but the difference between one sort of program and another is enough to classify the two as playing by separate sets of rules, in my opinion.

Maybe he doesn't understand what a rivalry is.  For all you saying he isn't wrong, you should probably consider doing some reading.

A Rivalry isn't a period of time in which one lived.  For all the self loathing here, let's not forget that even after a very long and painful period, Michigan still leads said rivalry.

Buckeye fan here.

This was a stupid fooking comment by a 17 year old kid that didn't live through the 1990s. I'm quite certain he's going to get a stern talking to(at minimum) as soon as he arrives on campus, if not sooner. This is almost as bad as the Cardale Jones comment, "We ain't come to play skoo!", IMHO.

Peace.

Young and Dumb!! Who cares what this dumb child says about the rivalry. I doubt he even plays in one game in this rivaly because we all know OSU doesn't use a TE but a handfull of plays a season! Go Blue!!

Historically, it’s a rivalry. The last 10 years have been one-sided but the ten years before that it was one-sided the other way. I guess this kid wasn’t around for that and is thus confused. What a shit talker though. Dude. You haven’t even played a down. STFU.
