James Webb Space Telescope sees it's first images

Not much to add.  They got their first image of a star.  This video is really cool and shows some of the workings and the images.  Now they will continue calibrating.

The first image from the James Webb telescope was a selfie... for realz!

This is really cool and gives a layperson a clear understanding of how it works.  They take 18 pictures - one for each of the 18 lenses - and then put them into one image.  Really cool how they know where they can find a far away star with a lot of black outer space around it for their calibration efforts.

The actual image...lot of work in front of them to focus in all the different pieces which should lead to some mind blowing imagery.  This is the Big Dipper btw.

I'm kinda surprised they released these initial engineering images before calibration.  It opens up NASA to idiots throwing complaints that all the money and time wasn't worth it.  But it totally will be when the calibration is finished...
