It Just Gets Better And Better

Good Morning from Columbus. Just like Thanksgiving Day leftovers it just gets better and better. I know the rest of my fellow Michigan Fans that live here are looking forward to all the buckeye tears for the next year. I for one am looking forward to the local radio commentary especially on 97.1 the Fan. T Bone is particularly obnoxious. I checked his tweets( I do not follow him) and he said this is why he wants us to lose every game. I haven't been this proud to be a Michigan fan living here in a long time. How are all my fellow Wolverines who liver here feeling today?

I have to imagine most of them are feeling how Michigan fans felt after 2018. The prior loss (or in our case, losses) had built in or even justifiable excuses.

Harbaugh’s first season, QB injuries, it was snowing, Michigan had a team full of upperclassmen who had the emotional edge, etc. It was easier to just say those losses could be one-offs and it wasn’t necessarily that the other team was just better.

But now, after what happened on Saturday, there are no excuses. Everything was set up for their re-coronation, and they failed miserably. This is OSU‘s new reality. This is an identity and existential crisis for them, where they are left to wonder about what their program is, where it’s heading, what it should be, and if the balances have been irreparably turned against them.

What happened can’t be dismissed as a fluke, a one off, or a blip on the radar anymore.

This is the Come to Jesus moment that OSU fans (particularly the millennials / Gen Z’ers who grew up in the Tressel/Meyer years) never thought they’d have to have. It’s a changing of the guard, a true dethroning, a disembowelment of everything they thought they knew to be universally true. And all that’s left are questions. Questions that they don’t have the answers to, and probably won’t for a while.

That's the best part.  There's no quick fix for what's killing them.  Harbaugh had the same tough realization in 2018.  It's not just "find a new QB" or "tweak the defense".  He had to literally gut the ENTIRE STAFF, install an NFL scheme with help from his brother, recruit his ass off to get a 5* QB and a killer RB and others.  He had to develop the shit outta of his OL (something he's done for years, so that might have been the easy part).  He had to steal every ace recruiter he could find (Clinkscale, Bellamy, Elston) and grab a Michigan legend in Mike Hart.  He gambled on Gattis and had to sit him down in year 3 and go back to basics.  He kept Minter in his back pocket which saved us when the Ravens called for their wonder boy back.

The offseason after the 2020 debacle is one of the most pivotal few months in Michigan football history

I have lived in Cleveland for 27 years.

the fans in Ohio don’t want a rivalry. Any talk that they did was just being condescending. I heard plenty of “it would be great if Michigan could make it competitive again” talk over the past 20 years when it was one sided. It was super annoying, but what could you say back. Nothing.

I don’t hear anything like that now.

Buckeye tears taste so sweet.

The greatest feeling in the world is watching Michigan beat OSU on the field.  The second best feeling is watching and listening to hard core Buckeye fans absolutely melt down and lose their fricking minds.  This fan base deserves  to be knocked down a few rungs, and suffer like we have suffered.   The flag plant was the icing on the cake.  I hope every Buckeye player and fan died a little bit because of it.

I live in KY too, most people here are pretty happy for "me" but they couldn't care less about college football. It's amazing that in this part of SEC country football just means, virtually nothing.

I'll post it on my board, some of my students will ask about it, and for the first time in a long time there are going to be a lot of younger people who only hear that Michigan whips OSU. They don't care, but for me it's just nice to know.

I'm in Columbus too - been here for about 20 years. It feels so good to turn the tables and be so proud of my Wolverines with these back to back wins. My chin is a bit higher, my chest is a bit more expanded, can't get this smile off my face!!

I spent the weekend visiting my brother's family in DC. He's got two degrees from Michigan and we rarely get to watch games together. The drive home yesterday, through the Ohio turnpike, was magnificent. Stopped at plenty of rest stops to "stretch my legs". What a weekend. I never imagined that the feeling after could live up to last year's game and I was wrong.

I lived in Ohio during the mid '80s and early '90s.  The days after the Michigan - Ohio State game always made for some happy holidays.

Welcome back.

I'm not the social media trolling type after a big Michigan win . . . but I have found out to my immense pleasure that my teenage daughter is a savage.
