Iowa takes down OSU
February 28th, 2021 at 6:11 PM ^
Just watched the end of the game and saw Luka Garza and other Hawkeyes giving fist bumps to OSU players and staff... something he did not do on Thursday which was brought out on twitter and such. I guess their butt kicking vs. Michigan made them a bit sour. Anyway, another OSU loss is something to cheer for! Go blue!
February 28th, 2021 at 9:00 PM ^
It was reported that Garza was woozy and incoherent after Dickinson schooled him. Can’t really blame the bushy-eyebrowed big fella for wanting to get to the lockerroom.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:12 PM ^
down goes ohio yet again. what a blessed day.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:14 PM ^
I wonder if 3 losses in a row is enough to get osu off the 1 line.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:19 PM ^
I don't have any numbers on this -- perhaps someone does -- and I know that Ws and Ls certainly aren't the be-all-end-all of the equation, but when was the last time that a 7+ loss team (and OSU will undoubtedly have at least one more L, through the end of the B10 tourney) was a 1 seed in the NCAA tourney?
February 28th, 2021 at 6:32 PM ^
As far as I could see, in the Kenpom era (since 2002), three teams have done it
2018 Kansas (final record: 31-8)
2016 Virginia (29-8)
2012 Michigan State (29-8)
Thanks! So, it has happened before, with 8. I wonder now about 9 (which OSU is kinda likely to have at this point, actually).
February 28th, 2021 at 6:33 PM ^
2018 Kansas was 27-7 and a 1 seed. They made it to the final four with us, but lost to Nova
February 28th, 2021 at 9:43 PM ^
I really wanted Kansas to win that semi. I knew they were more beatable than Nova.
I was at that game. I think at one point Kansas scored 4 straight baskets and was down 2 more than before their streak. Nova would just light it up from 3 like nothing I've ever seen.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:56 PM ^
OSU is going to have to beat Illinois and probably win the B1G Tourney if they want the 1 seed. Not happening!
OSU losing three in a row has knocked them back down to the pack with Illinois and Iowa. But I don't think there are any other teams outside the B1G that have performed well enough to take a #1 seed unless the committee decides to give it to Houston (which I doubt).
I think the B1G Tournament is going to decide the last #1 seed with the team that makes the final or wins the B1G Tournament (if it is not Michigan) getting the last #1 seed.
February 28th, 2021 at 8:17 PM ^
What a weird time to be alive "when Ws and Ls aren't the be-all-end-all of the equation".
February 28th, 2021 at 10:28 PM ^
That poster may have kids in one of those youth soccer leagues where they don't keep score.
No kids, and I'm a child of the mid-70s/80s, and you best believe, we kept score!
LOL, well -- all I meant by that is something like this:
Team 1: 21-10 record, with 5 lopsided losses to terrible teams
Team 2: 19-12 record, with no "bad" losses at all
I'd say Team 2 has a shot there over Team 1.
February 28th, 2021 at 8:37 PM ^
Maybe a better question given the nature of this season is: "when was the last time a team with a <.750 win % on the season was a 1 seed?"
I don't think there's been an example of that.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:14 PM ^
Osu made that average center for Iowa who couldn’t make a layup against Michigan look like an all American.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:50 PM ^
Iowa made Washington jr look like a bench player: 7 points, 4 turnovers. If it ain't us, it ain't worth the effort, I guess.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:14 PM ^
Both MSU and OSU lose today? Well, I declare today a good day.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:47 PM ^
Yes, well in football and basketball OSU and MSU always play their hardest, smartest games against UM, as we got last week from OSU and last fall from MSU football. I wish I could say we always countered with our best game against them. Last week yes, but that might be the exception.
February 28th, 2021 at 7:35 PM ^
I wouldn’t really say that MSU football played its best against us in 2018 (21-7 loss) or ‘19 (44-10 loss). I don’t think they played particularly well this past season either - we just managed to play worse.
We also beat them convincingly in Crisler last year in basketball, when they went on win the Big Ten and were a legit Final Four contender.
Why do we have to ruin this by bringing up football?
Can't we just enjoy Michigan basketball in March (and April) for now?
We'll be drowning in the football BPONE soon enough.
February 28th, 2021 at 9:39 PM ^
And Duke lost yesterday.
February 28th, 2021 at 9:44 PM ^
Queue Ice Cube.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:16 PM ^
Going to be great to see them off the #1 seed Line.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:17 PM ^
Garza couldn't score against us, 6-19 from the field. Didn't have any trouble against OSU, 10-16, 24 points, 11 boards.
Iowa had 4 total assists against us. 19 against OSU.
February 28th, 2021 at 7:05 PM ^
Is there a gif out there of that time Hunter Dickinson stuffed Garza's shot and it knocked him off balance and made him look shrimp like?
February 28th, 2021 at 6:17 PM ^
All your B1G Teams are belong to us.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:18 PM ^
Trifecta weekend: M win, MSU loss, OSU loss.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:34 PM ^
^^^^ This. Yes. ^^^^
Go Blue!
February 28th, 2021 at 6:57 PM ^
Quadfectra - ND lost yesterday to Boston College
February 28th, 2021 at 7:05 PM ^
Quadfectra - ND hoops is irrelevant. I haven’t heard one word about them all season.
February 28th, 2021 at 7:30 PM ^
ND basketball fans are (presumably) also ND football fans, so the judges will allow it.
February 28th, 2021 at 7:52 PM ^
Can’t forget Kansas taking down Baylor to give us #2 in the polls (assuming)
February 28th, 2021 at 6:23 PM ^
Hooray. Those bastards.
Go Blue.
PS - watch out for foul-trouble / keep the game close troll Izzo.
His plan is for Hunter to be fouled out with 9 min left & he's convinced the refs UM is unworthy.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
Agree. MSU will be very physical with Dickinson. I suspect they'll probably test Wagner's toughness too. He's Michigan's best offensive player when he drives to the basket, so I think they'll do whatever is necessary to deter him from being aggressive.
February 28th, 2021 at 7:34 PM ^
Franz is fiery too. Getting under his skin could cause him to go off or make dumb or forced decisions. It’ll be interesting to see play out.
I would expect quite a bit of Davis anyway. He’s junkyard dog scrappy. He can give as much as receive.
February 28th, 2021 at 8:45 PM ^
I'm hard-pressed to think of many dumb or forced decisions Franz has made. I'd bet on him going off.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:24 PM ^
That's 3 in a row. Do they fall off the 1-seed line?
February 28th, 2021 at 6:33 PM ^
They should. As it stands now they are in fifth place in league standings and don't even have a double-bye in the B1G tournament.
Illinois automatically jumps them on the 1 line, and there are a couple of other teams that should as well.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:39 PM ^
Anybody watch this past football season? (change the rules much?)
How about football in 1973 UM vs osu? (vote FOR osu)
If there is ANY POSSIBLE WAY of the Big Ten to have osu gain an advantage, they will do it.
They WANT a re-match of UM-osu in the tournament & have osu upset Michigan.
You know that's... S T O R Y L I N E..... and break UM fans hearts, that's what the Big Ten has turned into.
A Michigan hater league.
Go Blue.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:52 PM ^
The Big Ten hasn't turned into anything...
...it's always hated Michigan, for as long as I care to remember.
Just win, baby!
February 28th, 2021 at 9:37 PM ^
Far be it from me to defend the Big Ten or OSU, but they pretty much had to allow them in the BTCG in football. OSU played five games instead of the minimum six, but of their three cancellations, two were caused by their opponent. They would have been punished for something beyond their control. And they beat the second-place team (IU).
(I will go take a shower now.)
For us in basketball, they've been fair by not forcing us to make up all the missed games. In both cases they've done the common-sense thing.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:47 PM ^
Started talking about gold jersey charms for beating Michigan. Haven’t won since. Hate to see it.
February 28th, 2021 at 6:53 PM ^
Never mind a #1 seed, Ohio might not even get a double bye in the B1G tourney.
February 28th, 2021 at 7:05 PM ^
Iowa came out angry against OSU today... wonder why that was.
February 28th, 2021 at 7:53 PM ^
The more I watch the crazy parity in the B1G, week after week, the more impressed I am with this Michigan team
February 28th, 2021 at 8:53 PM ^
I watched the highlights.
O$U only scored 6 points in the last ten minutes.
Unbelievable.
February 28th, 2021 at 10:41 PM ^
Not a single game since Minnesota has it not been a blowout. Think about that.
