I wouldn’t call it, “scared” but I do think they had some chances, especially earlier in the season to be more aggressive, especially when the downfield throws are there and guys are open.

More so than normal, the only way Michigan was going to lose that game yesterday was for catastrophic mistakes to keep Iowa in the game. A pick-6, a strip sack, (a backward pass that turns into a fumble inside the 5) the only ways Iowa’s offense was going to score enough points. So once Michigan got a 3 possession lead, they were right to keep things simple and rely on the run.

I agree with more deep shots, and yes, even against that Iowa defense.  The one deep shot glanced off Wilson's finger tips.  It was really close and it felt like they should've tried a couple more of those while Michigan had a 13 to 20 point lead.  The 29 yard pass play to Andrel was a pretty pass over the defender.  I wanted to see a few more deeper shot opportunities in this game.  Not a ton more, just maybe 3 or 4 more.  At least one of those probably would've ended up as a Michigan TD.

A mostly dominated game by us but a few head scratching plays that gave Iowa more life than they deserved.  Glad we pulled out the win in extremely hostile territory!

I thought the scheme in the first half was exceptional. I have no idea why we turtled so hard in the 4th quarter. We’re going to need 4 quarters of good to great offensive football against PSU and OSU to beat them. However, Michigan was playing Iowa today and won somewhere that has been a house of horrors so it’s all good. Onward and upward. Hail!

I think we got a little spooked by JJ's fumble.  Keep in mind that Iowa leads the country in interceptions.  We probably figured they couldn't drive the length of the field on us and score, and that was basically the case - their first TD was on a short drive, and their second happened with 8 seconds left.

No matter how this season goes in 2022, or how much I loved 2015, and 2021, games will always be flavored by the experiences of 2016-2020, especially when we play a second half like this. It's almost like the coaches totally forgot all the times they called games this way, and got burned, or barely escaped a loss when they could've ran away with it.

Why is it that in week 1 when JJ came in the play calling was tailored to his highest skills, while once he became the starter they used a conservative version of the Cade playbook?   Michigan could have won by 24 with more varied and appropriate offensive play calling.

I hope it is just that they did not want to make JJ do too much in his first big road test.  But it might be....that this is what JH does, no matter the personnel he puts on the field.

Well for one thing, Cade got hurt so they're down a trusted QB in the room

They don't want JJ taking a bunch of hits, because nobody wants QB1 to be Bowman or Warren

That's why they are minimizing JJ in the run game.

And they have called plenty of downfield shots for JJ. He's just missed them.

And there's zero reason to be aggressive when playing with a 2 score lead against Iowa. Being aggressive on offense is the best way to get Iowa back in the game, more likely they get a pick-6 than a 8 play, 75 yard TD drive with their offense

Hate the 4th quarter turtle offense

Hate the prevent defense on final drive

Other than that, a great team win an big jump for JJ to manage a road game with maturity, confidence, and solid decision making.

They used over 4 minutes of clock on that drive before they turned it over.  Had they scored, our offense would have chewed up 2-3 more min AT LEAST, and then worst case we punt it back to them with about 1 min left.  Their offense cannot drive the field in 1 minute against our normal defense.
