If Smith v Linderbaum (potential 1st round pick at center) is a push, Iowa is going to have massive problems moving the ball either on the ground or in the air.

They aren't going to have time to throw consistently in 3rd and long situations, given their weakness at both tackles.  Would also imagine they trying running via the middle and not the edges were Hutchinson/Ojabo/Hill await.

Iowa has managed to pick off a lot of passes, but Cade is far from a gun slinger.  as long as we're running the ball well, he won't feel the need to force it (which he really hasn't all year, with the exception of his 1qtr int last week).

That's some super weak trash talk. The boys are locked in and ready to go! There is no way they are going to let Iowa derail this special season. Honestly, Michigan would have to play beyond whatever our worst game was this season (MSU) for Iowa to even have a shot. Cade is not going to throw 5 interceptions and Haskins is as steady as they come. Our special teams can pin Iowa deep and their offense just doesn't move the football. I have it 35-10 good guys! Even if it's closer than that, I just can't see a reasonable way we lose this game.

He's not wrong,  you can pass but can you do it before Ojabo or Hutchinson get there.  You can run straight up the middle, State showed that, why on Earth OSU stopped doing that or didn't do it more will always be a mystery to me.  Also I don't think OSU used their TE's at all on Saturday, Iowa will and our LB's aren't great in coverage.

Oh yeah? Well did you see Hutch's comments about Petras:

I'm the best ever. I'm the most brutal and vicious, and most ruthless champion there's ever been. There's no one can stop me. Spencer is a conqueror? No, I'm Alexander, he's no Alexander. I'm the best ever. There's never been anybody as ruthless. I'm Sonny Liston, I'm Jack Dempsey. There's no one like me. I'm from their cloth. There's no one that can match me. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah.

We have to play as aggressive offensively and defensively as we did against OSU.  Cannot take our foot off the gas on either side of the ball. This is not the time to revert to the 1970s mentality.

I think Michigan had an idea of how to keep the foot on the gas during the 1970s.

  • 1970 UM55 - Iowa 0
  • 1971 UM63 - Iowa 7
  • 1972 UM31 - Iowa 0
  • 1973 UM31- Iowa 7
  • 1974 UM24- Iowa 7
  • 1977 UM 23- Iowa 6
  • 1978 UM 34- Iowa 0

Well, what do you expect him to say? "I don't know, man, I just hope my OL doesn't allow Hutchinson and Ojabo to tee off on me and pummel me into the ground? Not sure how we're going to score on these guys."

Kid has to have some confidence, or at the bare minimum, he has to pretend he's got it. He's the QB, so if he's not confident, the rest of the team is going to implode.

Looking at Iowa's record this year, they lost badly to the best team they played, Wisconsin. The likely would have lost to Penn St if Clifford was in the whole game. And Purdue dominated them. Iowa's offense is going to have a lot of trouble with Michigan's defense. It's too complex for them. Michigan should win going away.

Yes, there are. As well as Michigan has played, they haven't been perfect. There is still a lot to improve on for the next game, and hopefully the two after that.

He forgot to include "successfully" in his statement. It is interesting that says anything given that  his offense has performed so miserably when facing the best defenses they have encountered.

Bulletin board material?  What bulletin board material?  What was he supposed to say, "They're going to beat us like a drum while we curl up in the fetal position"?

We shouldn't be surprised if this game is close from start to finish. Iowa, MSU. Two programs who have been terrific in recent history turning games against opponents with more talent into sloppy slogs.  Leaving it up to a play or two late in the game.

This is really the only Iowa fan trash talk that was worth posting here...

"The only way Iowa loses this game is if the zebras dictate an Iowa loss to put Michigan into the playoff. The Big Ten East sucked ass this year. MSU, Michigan and Ohio cannibalized each other and everyone else in that side was pure trash.

Ohio has a good nucleus and is going to be unstoppable next year, but this is Iowa's year. The West is 0-7 in the title game and it will stop this year. The other big factor is that Iowa gets an extra day off.

Iowa looked like hot ass in the Nebraska game, but we had a bunch of guys get sick the week of the game. Michigan is gonna have that same problem next week because their guys are all out walking around like king shit and were probably mounting Mary Jane Rottencrotch until the wee hours of the morning last night. Someone will bring flu or The Germ into the facility.
"

It was written a couple of days ago and comes from the Hawkeye message board (one the links posted much earlier in these comments).  It's still kind of lame.  Iowa makes it so hard to not like them...

This is the weakest sauce.

So Michigan is going to lose because of getting the flu? That came through Michigan a few weeks ago, apparently.....something was posted about players isolating and such.

Or because we're going to get COVID? Talk about grasping at straws.

How about "Iowa is going to lose because our DEs are going to bash your QB's ribs into powder"? That's probably more likely.

Comments come from a QB with a 120 QBR, 9 TDs, 6 INTs and has been sacked 23 times, including 12 sacks over 3 games with actual defensive ends: at PSU (3), vs. Purdue (4), at Wisconsin (5).

Iowa also needs to hold onto the football.

This is a non-issue.

The only problem I have with Iowa is they seem to trip us up often, ruining seasons. Otherwise, I like the team and root for them much of the year.

As for Petras....good luck moving the ball while under siege from Hutch and Ojabo. I think Iowa will get a few successful screens and passes to the TE on us, but we should have that shut down by the second half.

Well, Is he wrong?  The Defensive Tackles have been providing room to run, the corners can get got, the safeties aren't perfect.  There are areas to attack.  The question is can Iowa do it.  Not sure I saw anything in the article that showed disrespect, just an honest analysis and one most of us would likely agree with.

The offending comment is simply positivity reflecting the starting qb's confidence in his team's ability to compete against anybody. Petras can make all the throws when given time. Goodson can be a highly effective runner if he gets the proper blocking and he can get to the outside or a cutback lane.

Curiously, while Petras notes that Iowa sees multiple ways to attack Michigan on tape, he also contends that beating the Wolverine secondary deep is a daunting if impossible task. That's been my biggest fear all year. However, the pass rush limits time in the pocket and pass progressioins. Outside of Goodson, this isn't a team gifted with great speed and outside receivers.

Also, curiously, the story lauds the idea that the Hawkeyes 364 yards in offense last week against Nebraska is a major achievement, which seems modest at best when compared to expected Michigan standards. Yardage and points are not equivalent, as we all know, but I would rather Michigan face this offense on Saturday than other multifaceted teams.

Let'em talk. Beat them on the field.
