So far a lot of parallels to the Brady Hoke hiring, except this dude isn't soft (for lack of a better word), and he hasn't hired Al Borges yet.

Campbell isn't an X and Os head coach, he's a motivator, and he obviously appears to be A+ at that.

I think the Lions direction is clear, they're looking for talent in general and talent development and they don't want one person or one system limiting that because of scheme or personal preference. Holmes is going to do more scouting than most GMs, and the HC isn't tied to a system. No constraints in drafting or free agency.

This is a stark contrast to the previous regime and more akin to Mayhew/Schwartz/Caldwell or the time before Bobby Ross. At least you won't see no Tavai's drafted.

Ive had a fair share of Lions Kool-Aid over my 35 years on this earth. Im now not only apathetic to the lions, but diabetic as well.

Ill watch them - but my enthusiasm will still hang around Caldwells birthday celebration levels caldwellbirthday

Jim Caldwell started that way too and frankly, the Lions moving on from him was a mistake(even with his subsequent health issues).

That said, I wish the guy luck as he has a hell of a tightrope to walk.  Stafford is good, but not good enough to win a championship, but is paid like he is.  A defense in need of a major rebuild and an offensive core that follows Staffords lead in the talented, but just not quite enough category.

Stafford may not be in the top tier of Brady, Rodgers, Mahommes or Wilson but how can you judge a person on potential of winning a championship if:

A) They've never been there or the playoffs outside of a couple seasons.

B) We're the fucking lions with no support on the defense and mediocre at best offense/running game. Can't win that shit alone

C) We've had how many OCs come through Detroit since he's been here. And many of them have kept trying to stick to the run instead of airing it out. Never been consistent coaching.

D) I also think he has something like the most 4th quarter comebacks in the league since like 2010.

To think - if he was on a team that didn't have to play from behind ALL the time. He's not a world beater but I could easily see him ripping shit up with even a decent team.

A. I thought he played pretty well in the playoff games they had.

B. I still don't understand how they cannot figure out how to run the ball. A dominant run game would help him so much.

C. Hes had four OC's in his 12 year career. That is actually pretty good compared to what some QB's have to deal with. No excuse there.

D. One of the reasons he has so many comebacks is because he has spent his entire playing career wasting away opportunities to extend the lead. I have watched him waste so many defensive turnovers by going three and out immediately after. He's so mentally inconsistent. He's one of the main reasons they end up playing from behind. This year alone they lost six games in a row where they were leading by 10 or more points. Yes the defense was brutal, but he disappears for large portions of the game.

He's still the best QB they've had in my lifetime and I do think he could do well with another team, but he's limited. I don't think he's capable of winning a Championship, but you never know. I hope he gets an opportunity one day.

"Best in my lifetime" =/ "good"

Ask my 4 year old niece who's the best prez in her lifetime.

I wish people would stop saying that like it's a legit resume item. Plus I don't know how old you are but Scott Mitchell was way better.

Stafford is an awesome borderline tier-1 QB. Every other elite QB not named Watson has a legit #1 WR (or 3 if your Tom Brady). Stafford’s targets are as average as it gets.

Put him in Indy, Pittsburgh, New Orleans or on the Rams and they are a super bowl team. Put him in Denver or Miami, and they are a 12-4 team probably.

I’d take him on the Titans in a heart beat.

Thank you!  There is no argument because it's Cultspeak. Remember when Megatron retired and the narrative turned into "NOT having a great wr, is going to allow Stafford to show how great he really is"?  Well yeah, this is the cult walking that narrative back. They'll never give up on Stafford no matter how mediocre he is.

Opinions about Stafford are all over the map, but irrespective of his performance on the field, I'll always have a soft spot for him because of this.

I don't hear too many stories of players attending charity events for schools that they have no affiliation with, let alone going the extra mile at those events. He's an honorary Wolverine, in my book.

You are 100% right.  But to Dan Campbell's credit, he basically said the same thing - that the Detroit media and fans don't want to hear the same old shit.

Really doesn't matter who the Lions hire - we as Lions fans will be in doubt until a winner is produced.  Then we will all say - "I knew he would be a great coach".

Looking forward to that day while I am still walking the earth...

Can't watch the video at work, but if it's anything like his introductory doozy yesterday we're all in for a treat!  Don't know if he can coach, but the pressers will be gold!

I just hope he doesn't have to dig through a tunnel...

I have no hope for any coach of the Lions. When Mariucci failed here, I knew nobody could ever succeed. I thought Schwartz did a good job and he rebuilt the team after their 0-16 implosion but he could never win that big game for the Lions to make the playoffs. Caldwell picked up and was able to get the team playing better off of Schwartz rebuild but then he fluttered and could no longer win enough games for the playoffs. Patricia was brought in to get the Lions into the playoffs but was a complete disaster, setting this team back to the Matt Millen years.

Some people are great talkers and some are great doers...not many are great at both.  Have zero faith he can overcome the the dysfunction in this franchise but who knows that curse can't last forever...can it?
