I saw it on ESPN but here is confirmation:

I'm seeing Michigan -1 almost everywhere.
It is a toss-up. That is life on the road in the BIG. I will say this, if Michigan goes in and wins this game comfortably they and Ohio State are likely on a different level than the rest of the conference.
December 11th, 2019 at 10:42 AM ^
Illinois is decent. I hope we smoke 'em.
December 11th, 2019 at 10:45 AM ^
Yeah, even ESPN is inconsistent here. From their scores page, line MICH -1, but if you click on their gamecast it lists IL -1.5. <shrug>. Guess we'll just go with toss-up.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
Illinois's is favored in the 1 and 1/2 Point range

I think the Michigan -1 line is based on ESPN's BPI whereas the IL - 1.5 is based on vegas. ESPN's products usually list their internal line until vegas lines are posted but looks like this case, perhaps that field didn't return the vegas line the way it was returned in other spots.

This would be great. But as much as I hate to say it, I still fully expect MSU to be right there in the end. Too much talent on that team not to get it together eventually.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
Where did this come from? Are you thinking the Illini are Spartans? Anyways, from preseason number one to number sixteen is no accident. IZZO has a propensity to continually waste talent yearly. GO BLUE!

Dutch was responding to ijohnb's comment referring to standings in the conference

December 11th, 2019 at 2:47 PM ^
Look man. Here at MGoBlog, we only accept irrationally spiteful MSU takes. All other MSU takes need to be buried in your backyard underneath a thousand pounds of concrete.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
I think we'll be better prepared against the Illini than we were against Louisville. We'll definitely have better energy. It our shooting is on, look out!
December 11th, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
I don't think Michigan was unprepared against Louisville. They just shot the ball very poorly. Plenty of good looks.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
Fuck O$U
December 11th, 2019 at 10:44 AM ^
When I was looking the spreads yesterday, I saw Penn State was like a 4 or 5 point favorite over Maryland. I just think that's winning on the road in the B10.
I think Michigan wins by 7-10. I've watched Illinois a few times this season and have been less than impressed, other than a nice showing at Maryland. They have some decent players, but their outside shooting sucks. Pack the paint and Michigan should be good.
December 11th, 2019 at 10:48 AM ^
How good are they at denying 3-pt shots? If Michigan has open looks all night, Ill will feel quite ill after its all over.
December 11th, 2019 at 10:52 AM ^
Illinois always defends pretty well, it seems. We certainly won't have looks like we did against Iowa. Assembly Hall is also one of those venues where the fans are seriously all up in everybody's business. Not a particularly easy place to shoot the ball, though Michigan's better teams have fared pretty well there.
December 11th, 2019 at 10:54 AM ^
Thankfully the game is at the State Farm Center and not at Assembly Hall.
December 11th, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
You are aware that they are the same thing, correct?
December 11th, 2019 at 11:35 AM ^
Oh, I get it.
It's clever.
How is that working out for your, being clever?

Perhaps an explanation is in order? Assembly Hall is where Indiana plays. And, despite that Illinois' home bball arena was also named Assembly Hall for most of its life, nobody outside of Champaign, Il, or students of UI, know that. I had to google it. When mentioning 'Assembly Hall', the only correct answer is Indiana.
So no, Assembly Hall and the State Farm Center are not the same thing, at all.
December 11th, 2019 at 11:37 AM ^
Indiana? You mean Simon Skjodt Hall?
If you don't refer to or recognize Illinois's arena as Assembly Hall, you have not been paying attention to BIG basketball for very long.
December 11th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^
This thread got weirdly contentious.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:14 PM ^
No. I mean Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, if you must be technical.
Regardless of naming rights, basketball fans universally recognize 'Assembly Hall' with blue blood Indiana. Nobody recognizes 'Assembly Hall' as the home of Illinois basketball, especially since that hasn't been its name for six years. You're just being obtuse.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:26 PM ^
No, I'm not. I just recognize both Indiana's Assembly Hall, and the original Assembly Hall in Champagne, Illinois.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
Champaign

December 11th, 2019 at 1:04 PM ^
Obtuse! Your previous post said Indiana was Simon Skjodt Hall - intentionally dropping 'Assembly' from the name. Now, all of a sudden, you call it Assembly Hall...
See - I can be technically detailed, pedantic, and obtuse myself!
December 11th, 2019 at 1:07 PM ^
You certainly can.
December 11th, 2019 at 4:58 PM ^
Bzzz
I've always called Illinois' arena Assembly Hall.
Similar to there being mulitple "Memorial Stadium".
December 11th, 2019 at 11:27 AM ^
Don't know why you are getting negged - maybe people only associate Assembly Hall with Indiana. But regardless, you are absolutely right that Illinois plays at a stadium previously referred to as Assembly Hall (name changed in 2013 to State Farm Center)
December 11th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
Negs are for not getting obvious joke.
Be careful out there.
December 11th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^
A lot of the basketball fan base didn't pay that much attention until around 2013.
The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Illinois basketball is Assembly Hall. Very good, difficult venue for opposing teams.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:30 PM ^
You pick the strangest hills to die on my dude.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
I'm not "dying on a hill." Illinois' home court has always been called Assembly Hall and that is really what everybody has always called it.
December 11th, 2019 at 2:10 PM ^
Don't be an asshole. Just admit you fucked up and move on, skippy.
December 11th, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
This is hilarious. You are a victim of fake news.
It has always been called Assembly Hall and I don't care what company got the naming rights to it, it still is.
December 11th, 2019 at 3:01 PM ^
Aside from die-hard Illinois fans, literally nobody thinks of Illinois when 'Assembly Hall' is mentioned. Aside from die-hard Illinois fans, literally every fan of college basketball immediately thinks of Indiana.
December 11th, 2019 at 3:56 PM ^
I am continuing this only because it is amazing how wrongly informed people can be when they kind of rely on group-think like this to get information. The last poster that I was referring to actually believed, based on what he read, that the venue was never called Assembly Hall.
Indiana may be a better known Assembly Hall, because it is a more unique venue and because Indiana has a more significant basketball history, but it is completely false that Illinois' home venue was never really called Assembly Hall. It was the name of the building for 50 years. Every time Michigan has played an away game at Illinois until 2014 they were playing at Assembly Hall. Ok, it is called something else now because something bought something and owed somebody something else, but pretty much everybody who wasn't born in 2013 would know the building as Assembly Hall because that is what it has always been called. Not just to “die hard” Illinois fans, but to every fan who has ever referred to it.

MOAR LINES!!
December 11th, 2019 at 4:59 PM ^
Always was called ( The ) Assembly Hall here .....
December 11th, 2019 at 7:32 PM ^
I’ve never called it Assembly Hall because I’ve never had a reason to call it anything. I do like seeing these lines though.
December 11th, 2019 at 12:04 PM ^
142nd in opponent three point rate per Sports Reference. Not so good.
December 11th, 2019 at 10:46 AM ^
Not totally surprised given Illinois' recent performance at Maryland and our first B1G road game. Life is tough on the road in the B1G.
December 11th, 2019 at 10:52 AM ^
Unranked Penn State was a 1.5 favorite against #4 Maryland when they beat them. Road life.
