If Roh is better on the line, would JB start with Herron out?

Since it seems that Roh is more dangerous playing on the line than back as a LB, wouldn't we be better off keeping him there? Assuming that is the case, does JB get the nod at LB with Herron out since he is "playing both positions" according to Rich? I have not seen any note regarding this move and wondered what the reasoning would be since we just saw the defensive UFR supporting this fact that Roh is doing some damage to offensive tackles.

I thought this same thing.  When I read the defensive UFR, Brian said that when Herron went out, they brought Banks back in and put Roh back at LB.  If having Roh at DE is the best place for him, we should bring it JB, if he's capable, that is.

I wouldn't be surprised if we at least try that this week, with JB having the week to get more reps with Herron out.

I don't know that Roh is any more dangerous on the line. In fact, once he is on the line they can just double him all the time when we play a 3 man front, whereas he can rush off the edge while playing LB. Just my epinion though.

The UFR showed that he played a little better on the line than at LB. But I tend to agree with you about him being taken out of some more plays on the line. I would like to see GERG mix up the defensive fronts more and have Death Roh moving around. With his athletic ability, Roh can make plays from just about anywhere on the field.

Not only that, but I think Roh has done well against some of the doubles he's faced when he had his hand down.  I remember one instance in the ND game where he destroyed a double and made the tackle for loss on Cierre Wood I think.  I think it makes him a little less prone to being cut blocked as well.  He's gotten better at avoiding the cut block, but he's still adjusting to it.

I'm hoping to see JB this weekend against UMass.  Getting a lot of these guys some important reps will go a long way with our depth on defense.  It is nice that Craig Roh can play multiple positions at a high level, he is a great leader and I can't wait to see how scary he is going forward this season and over the next couple as well.
