I want Greg Roman running a Michigan offense

After watching the Ravens vs Titans game, I would love to see a Greg Roman offense at Michigan.  I know it won’t happen, and Greg is an NFL guy, but if Michigan could run and recruit for that it would be devastating to the rest of the B1G.

He’s getting NFL HC attention, also he learned it from the Muskegon High Schook HC a lot of those formations are “MuskeGun pistol” might as well get the guy who created it

And yet that was Lamar's first playoff win and a lot of credit needs to be given to the Ravens defense for shutting down Tennessee.  Jackson is fun to watch, but I'd take Mahomes, Watson, Rogers, Allen and a few others before him simply because those others can win in multiple systems, whereas Jackson is limited to a system built to his unique strengths.

He has one of the most dynamic QBs in the league at his disposal.  At the end of his 49ers stint, everyone wanted him out, and he did nothing noteworthy in Buffalo.

Actually, he was fine at buffalo, though made a scapegoat for a team that had larger problems.

He's good at designing offenses for running QBs; that's pretty clear at this point. I think he'd be very good in college (not a stretch, he was good when he was in college before) and his weaker passing schemes wouldn't be as big of a liability here.

But no idea if he can recruit or develop guys. It takes more than schemes to win games in college. I'd take him if Michigan hired him, though, no doubt about it.

Going to go way out in exposing my ignorance, but WTH;

Does it have to be the position coaches who recruit? I'm wondering if you can have a couple of guys who are just either A) really good in an area (the South, or Detroit) or B) just charismatic as hell ( like Hoke) be on the recruiting trail all the time but not be the position coaches.

Michigan doesn't have the type of quarterback or running game to make this immediately successful, and if one has tuned into the ravens this year you would know their wide receivers aren't particularly happy with the offense either.

Ravens finished regular season with 7th best defense.  Titans known for excellent offense. After 1st 2 series in today's game, Titans did very little.  If prediction as to DC is true, not a bad training ground.

LOL, nobody of substance is coming to work with Jim. This program is a mess and I think now Warde has to go after what has transpired.

I liked the following:

  • They ran the ball against a tough opponent who was determined to be more physical than them (something I would love against Wisconsin and MSU).
  • The offense creates lanes and options for its runners
  • The offense can create space for playmakers at key times (where has that been for M)
  • I like how the offense used its TE
  • On key drives they were able to move the ball to expand the lead and run out the clock

All of the above helped them win a tough playoff game on the road (no fans, but still), so looking at points is one way to view an offense, but so is situational football, and that's an area Michigan needs to be much better at.

Calling Tennessee a "tough opponent" on the defensive side is a bit generous.  I can't open Football outsiders right now, but I believe they're ranked somewhere around 29th in the league on the defensive side in DVOA.  In the last 5 weeks of the season alone they gave up 41 points to the Browns, 40 to the Packers, and 38 to the Texans.

Roman has done great work in the past (particularly last year) but this game and this season overall I would actually put as a low point in his career.  They weren't a bad offense, but to go from historically great last year, to middle of the pack in the NFL this year is a pretty massive drop off.

You want a QB who won a Heisman Trophy and NFL MVP running the offense.  I completely agree having that type of QB would be devastating to the rest of the B1G.
