I Hope Everyone is Doing Well!

Submitted by Mineral King on March 23rd, 2020 at 1:01 PM

I just wanted to say hi and tell you all, I am praying for you and I hope you are doing well.  Some things change, some stay the same. The world is not ending. Hang in there. I believe we will be back to some what normal, sooner than you think. Mid April - early May at latest. Schools though, yeah I doubt those are back this year. Football season gonna be fine. Go Blue!

I appreciate the optimism, even though you're completely wrong.

Most hedge fund managers would slaughter their own mothers to get that $1 under her sofa cushion, and even some of them are saying we need to shut down the entire economy.

Shut. Down. Everything.  In the United States of America.  The one nation on earth that cares more about money than anything else.  This thing must be more serious than even the panic spreading media is telling us.

I also hope everyone reading this is safe and sound.  Even that guy no one likes.

Am I completely wrong? That’s pretty bold. 15 days ago on here, I read that there would be no room in hospitals and thousands dead in U.S by this date 3/23. Glad you and others were wrong about that. Not saying this or any other public health crisis shouldn’t be taken seriously, but at some point look at what people were saying 14-15 days ago and see that what they said isn’t happening. Yet you still follow the same people’s words, to what end? We’re not Italy and projections are not true stats. Again, yes this could get real bad (deaths). Swine flu bad (deaths) only time will tell. At some point the damage to the economy could be worse than the virus it self. Keep an open mind and don’t panic.

The Malaria drugs in combination with the Z-pac are getting good preliminary results around the globe.  These drugs are already on the market today.

My friend’s 78 year old Mom is on this therapy and a vent currently.  It’s way early but certainly shows some promise.

Since that was made public the people who need it for other medical conditions like Lupus can't find it.  And the theory is based on a study of like 6 people.

But if I'm dying, try anything that has even a small chance of working I suppose.

We won't have a cure until Pfizer can patent one.

Bayer makes an older and more side effect prone version.  Sanofi, French Company, makes a newer “more advanced” version. The story I read made it sound like France and Sanofi had enough right now for France and were going to keep it to themselves based on current supply.

The theory is based on well more than six people but yes it’s a relatively small data set.   I know it’s being used in the US currently.   I have a friends mom on the therapy.   I wouldn’t overly discount this.

People on this board REALLY struggle with even admitting they might possibly be wrong.  Not sure why everyone thinks their "source" can see so far into future and knows all the details playing out behind the scenes.

Not trying to say everything is doom and gloom....  just 3 months ago many MANY experts were certain ww3 was about to happen over the solemani killing over in iran.

Well things didn't escalate,  this alone is a major reason to be hopeful.

Start getting it into you're heads that SOMETHING big could be going down that isn't related to the virus.

I love this shit.  When people spoke of what will happen in the future, that is what will happen if we prance along on our merry fucking way and continue going to work sick, congregating in large groups and the like.  You sound like the asshats on twitter calling out health professionals who show pics of makeshift hospital beds.  They cry “ yeah, those beds are empty!”  I for one hope this doesn't come close to projections because that means we mitigated!  PROJECTIONS CHANGE WITH NEW VARIABLES.  We can control some of those variables.  Again, reasonable, logical people will save the doom and gloomers and the hoaxers from extinction.

I mean, we're at ~500 dead and the trend is still very much looking exponential.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/  (Scroll down to total deaths).

That's with the aggressive measures those people were saying we needed to prevent the thousands of dead.

I'm hopeful that the worst case projections never materialize, but it's also far to early to say we've averted the doom and gloom scenarios at this point.

This week will tell a lot.

There will be a lag of a week or two to start to see flattening of the curve after isolation measures begin.  Isolation measures in the U.S. only started full force in the past few days.  This is why many people are saying this week will be the worst thus far.  It makes sense because we are currently on the exponential rise.  But then it should (will) flatten.

A couple weeks ago I was reading that Italy was going to hit a critical stage around 3/20.  And they did.  They currently are not treating anyone over 60 yrs old.  Think of the people you know in that age group, what would happen if that occurred here and let that sink in.  Projections have been a 10 fold increase worldwide every 2 weeks or so. That means by April the could be at 1Million cases worldwide.

prognostications have always been that we are 10-14 days behind Italy but we are in better shape with our level of healthcare.  But we can easily get overrun by this.  If we allow the spread of the disease to progress than we are about 7-11 days from that possibly happening.  NYC is already saying they will be out of PPE by next week.  Some hospitals will be facing dire situations.

Completely shutting down isn't the only method. S Korea has had success with testing on a massive scale, aggressively tracking positive cases, and notification and quarantining people they came in contact with. You can avoid blanket shutdowns if you have enough data to tell you who's carrying the virus and who isn't.

That said, since our testing is still not adequate and the cat may be out of the bag, a shutdown now might be effective in a "reset" to contain the virus to it's current hosts as much as possible until it runs it's course in 2 weeks time. It'll be extremely painful economically, but much less so than prolonged partial shutdowns.

Korea is doing things right, because their experience with SARS taught them to be prepared for this sort of thing.  We should testing as many people as possible, symptoms or not, and isolating those that are positive.

Thus far we've behaved much more like the Italians than the Koreans.  And we all see how well that's working out for them.

PSA-  Switch to edibles for now.   Smoking and vaping (some attribute this to the younger population that have gotten more seriously ill) damage the cilia in the lungs.  Cilia plays a critical role in filtering contaminants from the respiratory tract.

Edit-At one of the larger hospitals in Detroit they are getting a higher than usual number of 20 somethings in serious condition and they attribute it to vaping and smoking.

Edit- ER traffic is way down because people are not out and about getting normal ER type injuries.

Ah yes, attention whore Mineral King just couldn't help himself. Looking for validation, he chimed in with his non-substantiated opinion under a seemingly innocuous title. (See if you can identify anything resembling a fact or well-contextualized stat from an expert in his op to support his mindless opinion.)

I still don't understand why posters on this board give two shits what this fraud thinks. He should be mocked ruthlessly and shamed into silence.

People must have forgotten about the many things he's been wrong about. Go through his history if you want to remind yourself.

If you're right about this, especially the last sentence, I will take you out to The West End Grill and buy you whatever you want. Send me your email, and I'll act on my word - assuming you're right.

When did toilet paper become a thing? I offered an old lady 100 bucks for the TP in her basket after striking out at Kroger at 7am this morning. WTF!
