can't wait to make the drive.
December 25th, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
...it turns out I will be working a little more than I thought next week and into the first week of January, culminating with a nice presentation on the morning of the 4th, so I cannot go. However, if anyone wants to stop by and you're in SE Michigan, I will send along all the beer I was going to drink. You might want to bring the truck.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:05 AM ^
If you are serious, I would totally drink a truck of beer for a downtrodden fellow fan. Why not keep it for the home viewing?
December 26th, 2011 at 10:15 AM ^
....but not so much that I am making presentations to managers the next day in a visibly hungover state...unless we win, of course.
December 25th, 2011 at 6:44 PM ^
Another reason I'm not a supporter of the BCS is the weeknight games. You could at least move the natinal championship to the friday night that the Cotton Bowl currently occupies.
December 26th, 2011 at 10:11 AM ^
I see it as more proof that the BCS is all about the money. They would rather have the higher ratings that come from playing the games unopposed on a weeknight than more fans in the stadium. The NCAA always defends any stupid act involving football with "we're doing it for the good of the student-athlete," but how does it help the student or the athlete when the biggest games are played when they are supposed to be in school?
Fuck the BCS.
December 25th, 2011 at 6:53 PM ^
I really hope there at least 50G M fans. we are starving for a big bowl game.
December 25th, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
In the Superdome itself, I would guess about 30-35,000 UM fans and 20-25,000 VT fans with the rest of the seats empty or filled by locals who are not fans of either team, but I'm no expert in these things and am only going by the information in some of the same news stories everyone else has seen, plus the falling ticket prices. Stubhub now has some of the seats selling for as little as $20.00.
December 25th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
The whole McCaughey family will be in attendance, some of you might know this entrenched clan of Michgan faithful.
December 25th, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
I'm leaving Nashville,TN new years night and making a pit stop for the night in Memphis to scoop up some friends. Then were heading down Jan 2nd, so flipping stoked. Nawlins here we come!
December 25th, 2011 at 10:35 PM ^
I am going to Nashville on the 1st because it is about halfway from AA. Then down to NO on the 2nd.
December 25th, 2011 at 7:33 PM ^

December 25th, 2011 at 7:56 PM ^

December 26th, 2011 at 1:49 AM ^
That's quite....helpful and entertaining. And industrious(?).
December 26th, 2011 at 2:14 PM ^
This is highly accurate.
Here is a better image.
December 25th, 2011 at 7:42 PM ^
15k VT fans
December 25th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
I doubt there'd only be 25k Michigan fans judging by the fact that we sold our allotment of 17.5K tickets and I'd expect at least the same number to buy on an online ticket site or from scalpers.
December 25th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
Wish I was going but have fun everyone
December 25th, 2011 at 8:01 PM ^
I am taking my Son. It will be his first Michigan game. This will really put things in perspective when I take him to the Big House for the first time.

December 25th, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
My first was watching Tom Brady lead Michigan against Alabama in the Orange Bowl. 35-34 OT win. Pure Awesomeness! The next year I began my first year at Michigan.

I bought five tickets for me and my buds so I can say at least five with some confidence.
December 25th, 2011 at 8:46 PM ^
Based of the other students I know and from Facebook, there will be a lot of Michigan students there. and assuming most of them are like me and it's their first time in NOLA...we're about to get rowdy.
December 26th, 2011 at 11:49 AM ^
I have a pocket full of Christmas money waiting to get blown on hand grenades and seafood! Thanks Grandma & Grandpa!
Also: Night game.
December 25th, 2011 at 8:51 PM ^
I will be there, but then again I only live an hour from the city. Best news is that I was able to score suite tix from my employer.
December 25th, 2011 at 8:54 PM ^
There was a tom of maize n blue in J'ville so I would think there will be a ton of us in NOLA!!!! We all should have a great time!!! Coming in from ATL... Go Blue!!!
December 25th, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
if going to jacksonville last year was any indication, new orleans should be packed with maize and blue. im going with my dad on the 2nd, and whole-heartedly plan to miss my first day of class for the semester.
im just glad this game is at night rather than noon or 1, this way i have more time to nurse my bourbon st induced hangover.
December 25th, 2011 at 9:03 PM ^
Will be in sec 519
December 25th, 2011 at 9:07 PM ^
I'm hoping the Sugar Bowl opens the Louisiana recruiting trail for GO BLUE! Maybe pick up one of those dominating Louisiana DT's or RB's!!!!

Working in the baseball industry (SEC territory) I've seen first hand the dominant athletes here in the deep south.

Hoke and Company will continue to put a fence around the north and keep those athletes up there committed to BLUE.

But for us to make an impact with the national title run (consistent) -we need to snag those highly skilled position athlete's in the south.

GO BLUE!!!
December 25th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
its going to take several years of utter big ten dominance, and probably a national championship, for us to make serious inroads into louisiana or other southern states. sure, michigan is a nationally recognized brand, but to just about all of these kids, its more desirable to play in the much warmer south in the unarguably best football conference, where academic expectations are minimal at best.
someone correct me if i'm wrong on this, as i may be, but i doubt even tressel made serious inroads into the southern states. i think every once in a while we'll get some elite southern kids, but they'll be ones who actually give a crap about the education they'll be receiving.
i really hope i'm wrong, though. heavily recruiting michigan and ohio is important, but snagging elite southern recruits would make us that much better.
December 26th, 2011 at 12:34 AM ^
I certainly agree...

These coaches in the SEC have it a little bit easier down here. There are more athletes to choose from and the academics- excluding Vanderbilt - standards are less then the Big Ten for entry. ( nobody seems to look at that).

When I speak to these athletes they feel Big Blue is just another school.

However, when the coaching staff gets these players to visit, it certainly changes the complexity of their mindset.

So key is... Get them to visit!!!!

Hopefully we can snag some talent once in a while.

GO BLUE!

December 26th, 2011 at 12:53 AM ^
We've done it with and without "skill position talent" from the south, and we'll do it again with and without. Kids can play football all over the country. Just some teams are allowed to reel in a few more than others.
December 25th, 2011 at 9:21 PM ^
I bet the number of fan is OVER 9000!
December 26th, 2011 at 12:11 AM ^
