How Good is Al Washington?

I don’t know enough to know whether the guy is head coach material. I do know enough to know that he’s a young black coach with recruiting chops. It would obviously be very helpful (scheme, optics and recruiting) to get someone to come out from behind the Ohio State curtain and help Michigan beat them. He was here once, they were smart to hire him away, maybe he’d come back.

Urban f****** Meyer. That's the answer. Everyone knows it. Get out the checkbook. There is no other answer. "Oh he won't come here" go f*** yourself with all your logic and reasoning. Get out the checkbook. Make him come!!!

Please stop with the holy than thou garbage.  What Michigan is is a mediocre program that likes to hang on to illusions of the past and the belief that somehow they’re better than everyone. This program has been a shit show since Carr left. Yea there’s been an occasional good year but it’s the equivalent of finding a peanut in a pile of shit, yea peanuts are tasty and all but it’s still surrounded by shit.

Not good enough to be head coach yet. At least let him try his hand out at DC first.

If we’re looking at group of 5 coaches, I’d look at Billy Napier at Louisiana Lafayette or Bryan Harsin at Boise St. Both are out of region offensive minded coaches who could spark some youth and life into the program.

Um no just because he’s black doesn’t make him qualified enough to be the head coach here. Let’s not use race as a basis for our coaching search

"Please explain the relevance."

Sure.

Let's see how well an all-white Michigan coaching staff recruits. You like that staff's odds of pulling in a top 5-10 class?

No?

There's your relevance.

I truly wish we lived in a post-racial society but we clearly don't. Someone pretending otherwise doesn't make him (or her) smart or edgy. It makes him (or her) an idiot.

Furthermore, I want the best coach for the job. It doesn't matter to me if the person is White, Black, Asian, Native American, Mixed, Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, etc. I just want to see Michigan win National Championships.

I didn't forget. I included it withing "etc."  I could've kept going by adding non-monotheistic religions.

But yeah, I don't give a flying hoot about a person's nationality, race, ethnicity.

I care about only 2 things when judging an individual: competence and character. Those 2 are supremely important.

I think a good young black coach is exactly what Michigan needs.  Michigan needs to diversify and get someone who can relate to the young black talent around the country.  It’s obvious the best talent is black so why not get a head coach who can relate to them.  As a 72 year old fan I don’t have much time left (lol) to see a winner.

He could be good one day, but he’s not ready yet. Personally, I want a coach who’s never even heard of the state of Michigan. If we hire another “Michigan man”, you may as well bury the program for another five years.

He may not be ready to be a head coach, but he should be on the Michigan staff. I suspect he’s not already because he, like many alums, criticized Harbaugh when he bad mouthed the education given to athletes at Michigan.

He's the greatest coach ever. Truth is, we have no idea how good coaches are except with what Brian shows us in UFR, Seth in Neck Sharpies, and what few posters with coaching experience share with us.
