Honorary Captain for B1G Championship Game?

I'm not sure if we still do honorary captain(s) for games, but I can't think of a better selection for Saturday than Michigan's own Dennis Franklin. 50 years ago in 1973, Franklin and the wolverines got a raw deal when they were voted against going to the Rose Bowl.

What would be better than to see him on the sidelines 50 years later to see that team win and go (possibly) to the Rose Bowl? Also, if they had him on the podium after the game he could take the game MVP trophy from the guy who stole the Rose Bowl bid from him and present it himself to one of his own.

In 1972, 1973, and 1974 Dennis Franklin led Michigan to a 30-2-1 record as Michigan's starting QB, and because of the Big Ten's criminally stupid policy on bowl games—the Rose Bowl was the only option—he never got to play in a post-season game.

If those Michigan teams had been eligible to play in the Sugar, Orange, or Cotton Bowls, Schembechler wouldn't have had to wait until 1980 for his first bowl victory, and Dennis would have been the QB for the victory.

What a fantastic idea! Even better if he stepped in for Michigan officials post-games and accepted the winning trophy from Petitti. A slice of historical retribution acknowledged.

Tony Pettiti.

"And thank you to our honorary captain, Tony Pettiti, whose astonishing mixture of idiocy, gullibility, and malfeasance gave all of us just that extra little bit of motivation.  Now, Tony, if you would be so kind as to drop your trousers and bend over, we can insert this metal football up your rectum and conclude this ceremony."
