Help is On the Way! Stimulus Bill!

Submitted by Mineral King on March 25th, 2020 at 11:25 AM

Help is on the way for those of us that qualify. If you make under 75k or 150k as a couple, you will be getting 1,200 single or 2,400 a couple. Additionally $500 per child. This is huge news and should really help out people struggling pay check to pay check (which is about half of population) Thank you to President Trump and all members of Congress who voted in favor of this. Checks expected in May. Hang in there everyone ??

You forgot to add the part that individuals who make between 75-99K, doubled for couples, also are eligible for some kind of lesser payment.

LMAO, if I named my gang filled with thugs anti-nazi's or anti-evil it doesn't make them good people, its just a name. Everytime I see an Antifa rally there is more violence/chaos than any other political group. You could say the far right is anti-commie it doesn't mean they are any better or any worse than the left or anyone else. A name is just that, a name. I am a moderate and both sides can suck it right now. The right for pushing for everything to return to normal in the name of capitalism over doctors orders and the left just wants to add ridiculous pork to any sort of corona relief bill that is put forward. so left or right can suck it. I just want someone to do the right thing for America and right now thats not Democrats or Republicans... Unless your actually in politics the only side you should take is your own.

He's doing the best job, biggest things, tremendous numbers really.  We've never seen anything like it. The biggest, best, tremendous job.  Never seen numbers like this.  He's so rich, could have been a doctor - stable genius.

Many people are saying it...biggest, best, tremendous numbers. Many people, biggest numbers, best numbers.

Rashida Tlaib, who I'm not a huge fan of, had the best idea so far.  Everyone gets a debit card with $2,000 on it, and it gets reloaded $1,000 per month.  She suggested that continue for a year after the crisis has passed, which seems excessive, but I think that continuing payments until a vaccine is available would be reasonable.

I was as big a Yang supporter as anyone. We can blame the media if we want, but he never really figured out how to grab the spotlight and get his message across in the debates. The debates are a shitshow, but if you get into politics you have to learn how to play the game at least a little bit

To go from stumping for Trump, to this is pretty telling. You were all about Trump for a couple years at least. When the virus started blowing up you were one of the loudest talking about it being blown out of all proportion. Now look at you.

You're entirely too impressionable, and rely far too much on what you get from social media.

I think this would be a really good idea - if strings were attached.  That card should ONLY be accepted at grocery stores, pharmacy/doctors offices, and rent/mortgage.  Maybe for gas, but not the associated C-stores.  Lock them to essential spending, sort of like food stamps, so that we - as a society - get the most bang for the money we (tax payers) will be spending to fund this stuff.

As it stands, I don't qualify for a welfare check, and I don't want to see idiots spending this free cash on crap purchases (lumber for that new shed, cigarettes, a new big screen TV, etc...).  That's not what this is meant for.

But it is exactly what most people will use it for...

I thought the whole point was to keep the economy going? Are lumber, cigarettes, and a big screen TV not keeping the economy going? You think someone who needs food is going to spend that money on a big screen instead? Or do you just think poor people are poor because of some moral failing?

Quit the stretch from my post, here.  The purpose behind a debit card that gets reloaded monthly is, essentially, help for the unemployed - not “poor people” (which is your term, not mine).  And yes, I believe that the unemployed should get help, and that it should be targeted towards ‘life essentials’ - which do not include cigarettes and big screen TVs.

But you go ahead and show everyone your outrage because you can’t understand a comment.

And yes, the world is littered with people who would choose a big screen over meals...

Except the point of the check is to buy those consumer goods.  There is a separate part of the stimulus to make sure unemployment stays flowing so that you can purchase the essentials.  The reason they are sending out the direct payments is to make sure we continue to buy cars, tvs, couches, etc so that those companies can continue to exist and the supply chains don't all fail

Study after study has shown that limits on where cash assistance is spent do more harm than good.  People will spend it where it needs to be spent.  Just because someone is unemployed doesn't mean they're irresponsible and need to be babysat.  Funny how certain people are all about personal liberty until, well...

I’ve read that this will be based on 2018 not 2019 earnings. Anyone see this and know why?
