and it's a weird late entry by Michigan into the market. Let's not kid ourselves here. "The coaches like him" is generally new speak for "Well, after we struck out on every other target, this was the guy we liked best of the guys we have seen tape of and who are still available."
Recruiting is the art of the possible and sometimes the possible isn't what you'd like it to be.

have under the radar kids in their queue
offer them too early and they blow up and get higher ratings and more competition
Tyler Shough was a good example - 3-star when offered, now top 150 player
OSU just flipped a 3-star from WVU
people only panic when we do it for some reason

Traveling to Springfield, Missouri to see in laws for holidays. Father in law tells me he's mad at me because Michigan football just stole a basketball recruit from his school Missouri St. Not on my radar and doesn't sound right but I check MGoBlog and the recruiting sites, see nothing, tell him it's probably a walk on or something. Now, a few days later, its clear he had it right.
The ol' man is all over his Missouri St. hoops 'cruitin.
