His offer list is Bowling Green, Kent State, Eastern Kentucky, and Ball State.

I'm scared shitless what the WR room is going to look like when the 2017 class is gone.

They practically airballed last year, which means it's indeed very important to find someone decent in this class. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they take one of the DBs from the last two years and move him to WR. And doesn't George Johnson III have some good accolades? If they don't land one of the top targets this year then for sure it will be vital to get at least two top 100 caliber guys in the 2020 class. I'm with you there.

I don't see how moving a kid they recruited to play DB to WR solves anything. The fact is two of the last three WR commits they have taken didn't have any power 5 offers, the other is a high school quarterback. They are recruiting the position exactly how Brian predicted they would when McElwain was hired. They better pray they land Kyle Ford because if they don't they are in deep trouble IMO.

COMMITS. None.

FURTHER NEEDS. Michigan needs two or three WRs. Outside preferably.

RECRUITS. This is grim. I don't think there's a single crystal ball out for Michigan at WR. There certainly hasn't been one since November started. And there are few targets out there Michigan is even mentioned with. Michigan likely to be just a hat on the table for a USC-boundKyle Ford; ditto except for Florida State for FL WR John Dunmore. Dunmore was scheduled to be up this weekend, but with the spring game canceled that trip probably is as well. Michigandidn't even draw mention in a Wiltfong article about IN WR David Bell three days ago. MD WRJohn Metchie is supposed to be on campus this weekend—again, maybe—and is one of those guys who's been to a particular school a ton (PSU in this case) and will be an uphill climb for anyone else.

There are two guys who have recently been on campus. 3* CT WR Cornelius Johnson took an unofficial, but the shape of his recruitment doesn't look particularly promising:

Next up for Johnson is an April 25 visit to California. He also is scheduling a return trip to Notre Dame, and with Penn State offering Monday, a return visit to Happy Valley could take place. He is also looking at trips to West Virginia, Northwestern and Duke.

ND has three crystal ball predictions, FWIW. TX WR Dylan Wright took a swing through Michigan and Notre Dame, and did say Michigan was certainly in line for an officialafterwards. That's all you can hope for as an out of region prospect, but Michigan would need 4-5 guys in Wright's position to expect to land one.

That is the entire WR board until Michigan starts firing out offers to three stars.

In all likelihood Michigan's entire skill position class is going to consist of fliers, late bloomers, sleepers, guys who recently emerged from a coma, and the like. These are the wages of having the worst passing offense imaginable and not having a WR coach who can go on the road to recruit until you hire… uh… Jim McElwain.

There was a lot of talk prior to last season about using more 3 and 4 WR sets. In my cursory internet search I couldn’t find stats on personnel groupings. It would be interesting to see how last year compared to prior years. Although after Black was hurt there was probably fewer 3 and 4 WR formations than planned.

It seems that people need  to accept that Harbaugh and his staff will continue to go after a lot of 3* all around  athletes with high character and move them to different positions. I’m much more confident when Don Brown wants a lower ranked guy...but am optimistic that the offensive coaching changes will start making a difference on that side of the ball.  Also Patterson.

No. His hudl video is not like Grant Perry and doesn't say much about his route running. He gets open on soft coverage and can track the long ball nicely. He was at Michigan's camp and they like him a lot. If he can get open and balls that is all we need.

Right kind of like Edelman, some of the other Patriot slot receivers. Every recruit doesnt have to be a 5 star Randall moss or Calvin Johnson. Weve tried that recruiting approach and what has it got us? Funchess was a really good receiver and our team was not good. Maybe Harbaugh has other plans for this team other than recruiting five star receivers.

This young man appears to be more slot-like, so it makes me wonder if this is more about Giles Jackson than Kyle Ford.

Edit: HEY! We can edit, now! I'll just add that I can feel an 'I told you so' about McElwain's recruiting coming from Brian, if he writes the 'Hello' post.

It says a lot about recent history in the football and basketball programs that within minutes, each program takes an under-the-radar recruit and there are solely positive posts about the basketball hello, and lots of hand-wringing associated with the football hello.

There's 16 teams in the NFC. There's 14 in the B1G. People like to say, "Harbaugh made the final 4/2 in the NFL", but that's only with 32 teams to start.

There's 50-60 legitimate FBS programs out there.  Harbaugh is finishing around 4th in the 14 team conference year in and out, which is right at the level he performed at in the NFL.

To paraphrase a former Viking coach, "Harbaugh is who we thought he is" - except this time the B1G isn't letting him off the hook.

No

so far in the B1G he is not.

Will Harbaugh, in 10 years have a better overall record, more "big' wins, more titles?

Possibly? and HOPEFULLY!

But right now Dantonio (who is a douchbag I'd never want at Michigan) has proven himself a better coach in the B1G (the only place it matters).

totally agree with you

How many years does Harbaugh get before he is judged solely on his result at Michigan?

Michigan's publicly stated goals is to win the B1G.

Michigan's record:

3rd B1G East

3rd B1G East

4th B1G East

Now that said, I was thrilled with Harbaugh's hiring and I am hopeful that Harbaugh has a 4th year like Beilein, because Coach B was also at his own crossroads in Year 4...

I bet Harbaugh himself knows all of this, and his record at SF is becoming more and more irrelevant to his performance at Michigan as the years go on

Michigan4Life

Harbaugh hasn't won?

10-3

10-3

8-5

He got 2 double digit wins in his first two years after taking over a program that was on a downward spiral under Hoke whose record were 8-5, 7-6, 5-7.

To say that he hasn't won is being silly. Harbaugh got 8 wins despite losing his starting QB and had shitty QB play from O'Korn and meh QB play from Peters. Harbaugh has beaten top 10 teams in PSU and Wisconsin but most are focusing on MSU and OSU games.

If Harbaugh's record at Michigan was 6-6, 5-7, 6-6, then it's fair to question that he hasn't won games but Harbaugh has great track record everywhere he has gone. It's just that Michigan fans are so goddamn impatient that they are willing to run him out of town if Michigan don't produce a NC or B1G title this season. Harbaugh is the perfect coach for Michigan because he has the pedigree and can unite alumni, donors and players due to his history as a Michigan QB.

Look at Dantonio’s first three seasons. Worse than Harbaugh’s. Yet here you sit ripping Harbaugh for doing better than Dantonio.

Hoke left the QB and OL a mess. Those aren’t positions you can fix overnight. QB especially. He inherited Speight, Bellamy,and...?. Thus the need to get Rudock.

Do recall that he didn’t get to UM until January of 2015. He lost a month.

Harbaugh’s issue was  on the OL where he missed on some guys and decided time have  coaches running an overly complex system

Let's be fair. If it was an under the radar guy who played defense, I doubt there would be any real complaints. Maybe a few guys wondering why he wasn't put off if there were more highly regarded recruits that were still a possibility, but not anything really negative. Don Brown and his staff, just like Beilein, have earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to recruiting. The only spot on offense that gets that pass are the TEs and maybe the interior linemen.

Congrats Quinel!  A hell of an achievement to get a Michigan offer.  Welcome aboard.

And welcome to MGoBlog - Where the men can be pussies while scorning 3* with MAC offers.  Just make a few plays early on and you will be celebrated while the Board speaks of Harbaugh's brilliance to find the diamonds in the rough (for reference, see Sean McKeon).

I’m not saying Kent will be a bad player but don’t compare him to Sean McKeon.

Mckeon had the highest SPARQ score at his position and played in the northeast where players aren’t heavily scouted.

Meanwhile St. Ed’s is one of the premier football programs in Ohio and they play against high level competition year round. That said with the current state of recruiting services good scouting is never a guarantee...
