FWIW. He doesn't have an OSU offer yet. Call me in about 1.5 years and I'll get my hopes up about signing him
But if he stays as a top 100 player OSU would absolutely come in with an offer, and getting in on him early gives us a much better chance of retaining him if/when they do offer.
I look at this as a tactical move by Harbaugh/staff to send a message within Ohio as much as its getting a good player to commit.

Will be interesting to see if OSU is pushed to offer sooner rather than later by this move. Kids these days don't take to highly on being slow played.
Also, word on the street is that he's our #1 Inside Linebacker Target.

I'm not gonna go over the top since these days a commitment 2 hours before signing day is sketchy much less 2 years. But its a major pull if he sticks:
1) He's a top 100 recruit at a position where we have not recruited elite players over the past few cycles (sans maybe Devin Bush last cycle but I wouldn't classify him as an elite recruit)
2) He's a top 100 player from Ohio which Urban has had on absolute lockdown. It's an early sign our efforts in Ohio are paying dividens. Even if he doesn't stick I would argue thats more important than the actual commitment.
3) Other Ohio recruits should take notice, and he can start recruiting player-to-player within the state.
After years of Urban coming in and sniping elite kids from the Detroit area, this feels good. Real good. Lets keep it rolling.

to recruit good players for each position every year, so either way, I think they'd still like to have Johnson whether LB is still a 'position of need' or not.
