I graduated from Community with Carl Tabb, though he played football at Huron. It's wild to see a D1 level athlete be just so much better than everyone else in high school. He wanted to be a doctor in high school, with no real NFL pretensions, so I think things worked out well for him. No interesting stories, but I ran into him on campus when we were at Michigan together and he was a good dude.

Holland High School class of 1952. I was boyhood and high school friend of Tom Maentz. I’m class of ‘59 U ofM, should have been ‘56 but did a three year cruise in the Marine Corps.

I grew up in the Burns Park neighborhood in the 60's and 70's. Bennie Oosterbaan lived just a few doors down, and the Dufek family lived next door. Their father, Don Dufek, Sr., played for Michigan in the early 1950's and was MVP of the 1951 Rose Bowl. Older brothers Don and Bill were both All-Americans at Michigan, and Don played eight years in the NFL. Younger brother Joe went to Yale and then played for the Buffalo Bills. Good people, all.

Ian Gold was a fearless trumpet player in jazz band. His older twin brothers were the dominant athletes at school.

Had several college classes with Frank Clark, Dev Gardner, Big Krit (Chris bryant), Willie Earl Henry, Biggs Ross,Ray Taylor, Drew Dileo, Jourdie Lewis, Shoelace, etc, etc. Coached Andrel Anthony, Jamir Benjamin, and several others that are now just out/in of college or the league, a la Karl Brooks of BGSU, and now the GB Packers. My son went to WB and played with Donavan, Amir, and Semaj. He's now at Concordia playing ball. Had to throw that in there lol.

Nope. A few guys went Mount Union. One to Akron. My daughter went to school with Michael Ferns at St. Clairsville H.S back in the early hoke/end of RR days, if that counts

Big Greg Skrepenak went to my middle school, but it was after my time there.
I sat next to him on a plane flying back to the east coast when he was at Michigan. It was cool at first, but then I realized I was sitting next to an enormously huge human being while trapped in an airplane seat. Then it wasn't that cool.
I was kind of glad to get off the plane.

Rob Doherty was 2 years ahead of me in high school. I was JV when he was varsity and he was terrifying on the field, but also one of the nicest people I've ever met, when he wasn't playing football.

Bill Hart started 11 games at center for Bo in 1972. He was a friend of my older sister and his younger sister was a friend of mine in school. He backed up Guy Murdoch who went on to a long NFL career. Bill was drafted and played for the Chicago Bears 🏈.
