Harvard transfer DT (#8 Freaks List!) wants UM (And You Won't Believe What One Other School!)

Submitted by StateStreetApostle on November 24th, 2023 at 10:22 PM

6'2" 320-lb Harvard Sr DT Thor Griffith is entering the portal.  Why that matters:

  • Was #8 on Bruce Feldman's Freaks List this year (2 behind Kris Jenkins, 1 ahead of Chop Robinson)
  • It was Feldman who Thor told about his transfer desires--Athletic article; Feldman tweet)
  • 1st team All-Ivy with 30 GP in 3 years:  33.5 TFL / 13.5 sacks / 132 tackles
  • Should be a graduate transfer so unfortunately hur hur we won't find out what Harvard credits wouldn't count at Michigan
  • One year of eligibility left (Ivy didn't play in 2020, just like the B1G)
  • said that he’d like to transfer to Michigan or Ohio State
  • which is kinda like saying you want to transfer either to Heaven or Hell
  • Fun fact:  name is THOR
  • More fun facts (Harvard bio) "Enjoys exotic fish keeping, weightlifting and medieval samurai history… Considers himself a Star Wars enthusiast."

He’s from New Hampshire? I’m sure Ryan days brother will threaten to arrest him if he doesn’t go to osu..so I think we know where he’s going

Also, the B1G played in 2020. Michigan just didn't.

But every player gets the COVID year, no matter how much they played. So even if you played 12 games in 2020, it was a free year.

This is more common than you'd think. My guess is that they are from Indiana and got some incentives from the state for loan forgiveness if they practiced in state for a number of years after finishing need school.

I have friends in Illinois who did the same at UIC med school after graduating from Harvard and MIT. They could have gone to Michigan or Vandy or Duke, but chose the cheaper in state option.

Why would he want to go to OSU from Harvard. I don't get it. You don't go to community college after graduating. You go before.

Kidding aside, he seems like someone who can help us next year for sure. We lose a few with significant snaps this year.

I have been watching Thor for three years now, and he is definitely an impact player.  State Wrestling champ in high school.  He has definitely been the Mason Graham of the Ivy League for the last three years.

Here's an in-depth interview with Thor: https://gocrimson.com/podcasts/inside-harvard-football-2023-episode-8/18

Incidentally, if you're wondering if any other Harvard Graduate ever transferred eligibility to play football at Michigan, the most recent one was the "Wolverine of Wall Street", Michael Hirsch: https://www.freep.com/story/sports/university-michigan/wolverines/2016/09/09/michigan-football-michael-hirsch/90108948/

Michigan is more northerly, and in other ways, too, is more Vikingly than anOSU.  Michigan = Scandinavia.  anOSU = France just prior to Siege of Paris.

Wolverines are the Vikings of the animal kingdom.

A Buckeye is a poisonous nut.

Some say that the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan are connected by a structure akin to the Bifrost Bridge.

Ohio has Cleveland.

Thor, your Norse blood tells you which to choose.  The Allfather points the way.

Dude is smart - knows how to create a bidding war. “Pay me - or not only am I not coming, I’m going to your rival”

I’m not even mad, guy is playing the NIL game perfectly. Unfortunately, I doubt we win that bidding war… hope being a Harvard guy he values education too

I'm sure admissions will find a way to try and mess this up (I know it's a grad transfer, but still I have faith they can find a way)

That being said, I really cannot, outside of some rare form of OCD that requires constant visual exposure to the color red, think of why he would want to go to OSU, no matter if they want to work Mon-Fri or on Sundays.

I've advised a few ex-Harvard fb players over the years and they seem way to smart to make a decision like that.

I'm sorry, but sounds like a Michigan man if I've ever heard one. Get him and Kris Jenkins together asap
