Harbaugh = John Cooper

Good assembler of talent, but rarely ever has team ready to play in biggest games. You can't ignore it. We're 5 years in and make stupid mistakes regularly and especially in this game. If you're okay with never winning anything of note, he's your guy.

Jim Harbaugh is the safe choice. John Harbaugh is the much better coach. Too bad he will never come here.

Nah.  Cooper's rosters were on the same level, talent-wise, as UM's.

If you watched today's game and think that UM has the talent to compete with OSU in anything short of completely ideal circumstances, I don't know what to tell you.

Well apparently Iowa, penn state and fucking Purdue must have lots more talent than I realized.
OSU only had two matchups where they head and shoulders better than Michigan: their interior oline versus our defensive tackles and Chase young versus anyone.
Michigan lost because of poor coaching and numerous mental gaffes. Is OSU extremely talented? Yes. But if Purdue and Iowa can run OSU off the field and we’re spotting them damn near 60 before the game starts, where you do think the problem lies?

Idk, that’s a questionable one.

2011- Michigan probably has the “Talent” edge that game. Denard and [4th year of] RichRod Recruits...

2012 - First full year of Urban’s recruits— remember he got that bonus month of recruiting no one else got, because he took the job in December, however all actual coaches had the “dead period” and Urban didn’t.

2013- was the first year that the talent gap spread largely.

2014- Urban’s first recruiting class are juniors— Zeke— and win a National Championship.

2015- Enter Harbaugh.

Definite Gap growth from 2011–2015, and now we’re in 2019 looking at Harbaugh to have cut the talent gap that Urban had a 4-year advantage on? C’mon.

I’d give the edge to Cooper in terms of results. But Cooper also wasn’t playing against the same kind of juggernaut that Harbaugh has to face.

The reality is that there are no perfect parallels in the history of this rivalry. Other than maybe very very early back in the early 20th century.

This isn't fair.  OSU had more more or at minimum equal talent and underachieved.  We are at a talent deficit compared to them currently.  I'm not making excuses but it is a fact.

LOL!

Harbaugh as good as Cooper?  No fucking way!

Cooper was a better recruiter and a better coach.  He was NEVER embarrassed the way Harbaugh has been these last two years.  And Cooper actually managed to win a couple!

Why insult Cooper? "THE" game has evolved into "THE" joke. OSU is the only team showing up for this game anymore. No longer is this a rivalry, that ended a few years ago. Maybe Rutger really is UM's real rival.

Whatever people say in Harbaugh's defense us just excuse making.

He is poo. His greatness is exaggerated, and it was by me when he was hired. I thought the perfect timing of this hire would be the year they hired Hoke--but it was not to be.

The time has come to find our Urban Meyer or Ryan Day.

Didn't you just have a post where you said "If Haskins follows his blockers he probably scores" or something like that?

WOW ... yep ... players need to make plays because guess what ... when I saw that pulling lineman I said .. "man if he would of just followed him around he would of easily scored".

So .. hmmmm ... players need to make plays huh Stinkster?   The play call and blocking was good but the player messed up and it takes players to make plays in big games too!

I saw a lot of players that made bad plays at the wrong time in this game and it happens.

And please about Ryan Day ... he is living off of Meyers team for right now.  He has proved nothing and time will only tell if he is THAT good.  Let's see where he is at in 7 years.  Day was gifted an already majorly talented team.

Dude, John Cooper's teams were better than UM, ranked higher than UM, and lost to them.

When has Harbaugh gone into one of these games with the better team?

Dumb post.

He's an overrated joke who puts together mentally weak teams. Those players constantly choke in big situations. Fumbled snaps, dropped passes, missed extra points. When the spotlight is on them and the game is on the line, they shy away from it. Each and every one of them. Each and every time.

Half a decade in, and his key accomplishments are beating a shitty MSU team, ALMOST tying Penn State on the road, and having a comfortable win against Indiana (how exciting!). He's done all he can do, and needs to go. Get Rhule in here now and give him free reign to do whatever it takes to close the gap with OSU.

At this point I'd say its a fair comparison. Cooper regularly won 10 games but just looked clueless in this match-up. So far I'd say the same holds true for Harbaugh.

Not even close.  John Cooper had his team in a position to be UPSET in The Game.  His teams were undefeated or one loss regular season teams.  We are always the underdogs and still shit the bed.  Cooper was better.

This is very wrong.

In actuality, Cooper's OSU teams came into the game higher ranked and favored.  And lost.

In every game, Harbaugh's Michigan's teams came into the game lower ranked and as the underdog.  Yes he lost.

The recruiting deficit is real and going to make beating OSU a rarity.

That's just reality.

And history.
