So not trying to be a jerk or anything, and not sure of the stars of the fella's who signed, but does anyone see the early signing period as a way for borderline guys to sign early and make sure there are no stunts pulled before Feb? And most of the high 4/5 star guys will wait till February to sign?? So each school will always leave the door open for a few of them till Feb??

What other reasoning is there? I always like the idea of one signing day, as it is a big deal for these kids, but could also be the worst day of their lives if "there wasn't a commitable offer."

Two years ago at this time, Erik Swenson and everyone around him would officially know that he did not have a commitable offer.  He would have had more time to search for a school that would give him a commitable offer.

On the flip side, Michigan would've known that Devery Hamilton was a concern if he did not sign early and could have started looking at other OL prospects.

Either way, I think this is a net positive for everyone.

Andy Staples has been using the phrase "show your cards day." I think that's pretty accurate. Now students and schools will have a much greater idea of exactly what the landscape looks like for the next two months ot make more informed decisions.

I just wish the NLI would include a release clause that any student can be released if the school they've signed to has any changes to the position coach, coordinator (on their side of the ball), or head coach.

247 still isn't reporting these two as signed. How many more we are expecting?

Reese - probably holding out till Feb to see where Georgia ends up
Mayfield - you're saying signed
Doyle - ???
Upshaw - you're saying sign
Haskins - ???
Bell - ???

Doubt we are on commit watch for anyone today, correct?

Man.... it's a whole lot more enjoyable to follow this while I have time off during the holidays than constantly hitting refresh during a work day at the office.   Will be amazing next year with what looks to be a top five class.

The 6-4, 304-pounder really got the full Maize and Blue tour this go around, which has his interest quickly rising in the Wolverines. “Extremely (interested),” said Sampson. “Because it seems like a great place to further my education and also because the offensive lineman coach.” Despite an Akron offer and interest from several other programs, Sampson still hopes to land a Michigan offer in the future. Dabo Swinney told Jackson Carman during his recruitment that Urban Meyer is on the back end of his career in terms of years left. “It wasn’t a major factor, but it was an underlying one,” Carman said.

All the Buckeyes probably will see this day as a gut-punch with the talent they didn't sign, but they'll still have a great class.

Regardless, I'll be happy if they're sad.

I have to admit that I was not crazy about Haskins when he Committed (due to the low ranking), but I changed my mind today. Watched some senior clips of him on Hudl, and he looks like a decent option at RB. Even if it doesn’t work there, I found it notable he had 50+ catches, and he played a hybrid DE/OLB at 6’1 200 pounds and accumulated 12 sacks. He looked aggressive and maybe an option at Viper if all else fails.

Then he transfers to UAB like Kingston Davis and is never to be heard from again. It’s not like he is going to be counted on anytime soon: 2018: Higdon, Evans, Walker, Samuels | 2019: Evans, Walker, Samuels | 2020: Walker, Samuels, then Taylor/Haskins/Turner will all get their shot to contribute.

I heard from an Ohio State Colleague that on 11 warriors blog they were saying OSU no longer wanted Micah Parsons and saw this self imposed sanction as the cleanest way out.

If nothing else, we might not have the immediate talent but the size of each player in this class is ridiculous. Other than Christian turner who's 5'11, every single recruit is at least 6'1 or taller. Our 3 DE commits are 6'6 and over 250. Sheesh

Pretty good day so far I'd say? I would love a surprise though.

I think this early signing day is great for the players and coaches, but as a fan it lessens the excitement that signing day has always brought.
