So not trying to be a jerk or anything, and not sure of the stars of the fella's who signed, but does anyone see the early signing period as a way for borderline guys to sign early and make sure there are no stunts pulled before Feb? And most of the high 4/5 star guys will wait till February to sign?? So each school will always leave the door open for a few of them till Feb??
What other reasoning is there? I always like the idea of one signing day, as it is a big deal for these kids, but could also be the worst day of their lives if "there wasn't a commitable offer."
December 20th, 2017 at 10:29 AM ^
Two years ago at this time, Erik Swenson and everyone around him would officially know that he did not have a commitable offer. He would have had more time to search for a school that would give him a commitable offer.
On the flip side, Michigan would've known that Devery Hamilton was a concern if he did not sign early and could have started looking at other OL prospects.
Either way, I think this is a net positive for everyone.
December 20th, 2017 at 10:47 AM ^
Andy Staples has been using the phrase "show your cards day." I think that's pretty accurate. Now students and schools will have a much greater idea of exactly what the landscape looks like for the next two months ot make more informed decisions.
I just wish the NLI would include a release clause that any student can be released if the school they've signed to has any changes to the position coach, coordinator (on their side of the ball), or head coach.
December 20th, 2017 at 11:12 AM ^
Seems like a great idea. But then when have NCAA, coaches, etc. put kids' interests first?
December 20th, 2017 at 10:21 AM ^
Ben VS is now in.
Micah Parsons to PSU.
December 20th, 2017 at 11:14 AM ^
247 still isn't reporting these two as signed. How many more we are expecting?
Reese - probably holding out till Feb to see where Georgia ends up
Mayfield - you're saying signed
Doyle - ???
Upshaw - you're saying sign
Haskins - ???
Bell - ???
Doubt we are on commit watch for anyone today, correct?

Man.... it's a whole lot more enjoyable to follow this while I have time off during the holidays than constantly hitting refresh during a work day at the office. Will be amazing next year with what looks to be a top five class.

Two signing days are better than 1! Go Blue! Let's get some championships.

All LOI's are in except Reese, Doyle (announced he would sign in Feb.), Bell and Haskins.
December 20th, 2017 at 10:57 AM ^
Wonder if Doyle is looking elsewhere with the dept chart being what it is and him being more college ready than a guy like Milton.
December 20th, 2017 at 11:05 AM ^
But we have a ton of QBs and we'll probably add more transfers in the future. Kid has to do what he thinks is best for himself.

Jackson Carmen - #1 OT from Ohio
went to Clemson
good news
I wonder if they melt down like we are doing if Dobbs goes elsewhere
December 20th, 2017 at 11:22 AM ^
Considering they have the #1 overall class and 11 top 100 players, probably not a big meltdown.
And I don't think we are in on Dobbs at all yet. A lot of ground to make up, it's OSU or MSU for him.
December 20th, 2017 at 11:24 AM ^
I see in state 4* OL Tyrone Sampson has decommitted from Syracuse today. Was there any UM interest there?

just lost Emory Jones to Florida
December 20th, 2017 at 12:15 PM ^
All the Buckeyes probably will see this day as a gut-punch with the talent they didn't sign, but they'll still have a great class.
Regardless, I'll be happy if they're sad.

Here's to hoping Dabo and Urban try to out dirty each other in recruiting until they both implode.

I heard from an Ohio State Colleague that on 11 warriors blog they were saying OSU no longer wanted Micah Parsons and saw this self imposed sanction as the cleanest way out.
December 20th, 2017 at 12:35 PM ^
If nothing else, we might not have the immediate talent but the size of each player in this class is ridiculous. Other than Christian turner who's 5'11, every single recruit is at least 6'1 or taller. Our 3 DE commits are 6'6 and over 250. Sheesh
December 20th, 2017 at 12:39 PM ^

that Bell cannot sign until February due to having signed a NLI for basketball all known commits are signed except for 3 that we know are NOT signing today
December 20th, 2017 at 1:22 PM ^
Pretty good day so far I'd say? I would love a surprise though.
I think this early signing day is great for the players and coaches, but as a fan it lessens the excitement that signing day has always brought.
