GoBlueWolverine's Dre Barthwell: Marvin Robinson to leave Michigan

Submitted by translator82 on

Dre Barthwell's tweet pretty much says it all...expect it to be official tomorrow. Best of luck to him.

Tomorrow junior safety Marvin Robinson plans on receiving his release from Michigan thus having a chance to play for another college.

Kid really loved Michigan so I'm sure it's killing him to leave. Best of luck to him though. It's too bad every recruit can't work out.

Justin Turner and Cullen Christian...wouldn't both still be eligible? I'll tell you what, this staff is light years ahead in evaluating talent and potential. Sad when of the 2 guys you mentioned, and the two I mentioned...plus even Cissoko, Ray Vinopal was the best of the 4 (or 5)

Went from 3 Robinsons in December to none in May.

Jerald and Marvin defected and Denard graduated.

Wonder if anyone will take his #3 on defense.

of people that had high hopes for the kid,  but I've always found it strange that during his recruitment I could never find his highlight tape on youtube. Either way, he just didnt seem to have the talent I was hoping for. He and Josh Furman seem to be of the same mold...

Good luck to Marvin.  Hopefully he has a plan to go somewhere where he can play more.  He is a good hitter, but he lacked the football instincts needed to be a full time safety.

This is why we need to hold our horses on all current recruits.  It is nice to speculate but we've had a recent 5 star do almost nothing until his senior year and a 2 star who only had MAC offers other than UM turn into the best player on defense (unfort currently injured).   A 2 star who went to a MAC school also happened to be the best (eligible to be drafted) player in the country per the 2013 draft.

Read a story here or elsewhere in past few months that generally a 5 star will at least become "something" at the college level (if not a star) whereas with the 3s and 4s a lot of time you can throw them all in a bucket and what comes out comes out - relatively random.

I get we all enjoy these rating things but until you get these kids on campus, get them 1+ year in the system, and see how they compete against similar talent it is all somewhat of a crapshoot.   Sometimes I watch these highlight tapes and seeing guys 5" taller and 70 lbs more than the guy they play against and wonder how you can project half these kids as they are just so physically dominating over other HS players - cant measure (Jake Ryan) heart or drive or where they will project in 2-3 years with that much certainty.

I dont know what happened to Rich Rod's eye - I realie WVA didnt play in a great conference but his teams did "decent" in the cross over matches against power conferences in bowls and such so his talent evaluation - esp on offense - couldnt have been so horrid overnight.  Weird.

Sad to hear and hopefully things work out in the end for him. These kids come in bleeding maize and blue and some of them just don't pan out.

Marvin Robinson has been on Michigan fans' radar so long that people were worried the transition from Carr to Rodriguez would hurt Michigan's standing in his recruitment.

...

... offers from Michigan, Ohio State, USC, and Florida before his junior year of high school. When he was 15! Damn.

...

It doesn't really matter whether Robinson is a safety or a linebacker because Michigan would take either yes please thanks much. Given the depth in the secondary, where a true freshman starts at safety next to a converted cornerback and a redshirt freshman walk-on is on the two-deep at corner until the instant Justin Turner enrolls, this will slow Michigan's pursuit of other defensive backs in no way whatsoever.

I had particularly high hopes for Carvin Johnson. Plus, I always liked Vinopal, even if I didn't expect him to contribute on quite the same level as the other guys.

I absolutely assumed that some day we'd have a hard-hitting, lightning-quick safety tandem of Robinson and Furman, though. Twas not to be, I guess.

I thought he would lock down the SS Spot...then he would barely see the field.  Besta luck Marvin

our fanbase is in the way everyone is wishing him well and hoping he finds success in the future, so proud to be an M Fan!

Goodluck to you Marvin, hopefully things work out for you and you find happiness along the way. I also thought he was gonna be a stud but college ball is to HS what the NFL is to college, so there you have it, reality is a bitch.

As I recall, Marvin Robinson started UTL in 2011 and put together a pretty good performance with seven tackles and five stops. He also had his first fumble recovery against Ohio State last year, so in his limited time on the field, he has come through. We will always have those moments, of course. Best of luck to Marvin Robinson in his future.

:(

Bad news.  Wish he would have stayed for his degree.

Hopefully he is able to find PT and catch a scout's eye, but bad news nonetheless.  Was hoping he would have a breakout senior season, but the spring ball reports on the depth chart probably made Marvin see the writing on the wall....
