Go behind the scenes of the Big House at Michigan with Joel Klatt

This is a very interesting piece that not only goes on a walk through of Michigan Stadium, but also goes into some detail about the operations in the broadcast booth during a game. Klatt is already hyped for the game - aren’t you?!

Actually I was at the Desmond Howard trophy pose game. That's right. I flew out from CA and if I recall I was in my late 20's. I am 54 now. I was on the same endzone as he caught it but high up on the opposite side.

So I didn't have a great vantage point and I vaguely recall him doing the pose but didn't obviously have a great look. Typical midwestern day. Sat next to a cute lady. She was very nice.

I think Herbstreit was the qb? I think UM was up 17-0 or something at the time. Going off pure recollection like Klatt. Now that I think about it, I had probably the worse seat in the house. In fact, most of the scoring tool place on the other side of the stadium. :(

Well...I was there. That should get me some points? :)

Nice seeing someone get through a piece without an attempted troll to get clicks. Big fan of Klatt and an interesting look in the the booth. It’s not as easy of a job as it looks. Can’t imagine Brandy using all that technology.

I'm glad Fowler doesn't do Big House walk-throughs.  He'd talk about Keith Jackson's "Miracle in Michigan" call in the south EZ and "The Horror"/ "Snap" in the north.

Klatt is probably my favorite announcer.  I feel like he's a legit Michigan fan.  Watching him on cowherd and other broadcasts,  he's always saying good things. Cool dude. He seems like he'd be a cool dude to grab a beer and just talk college football with.

Gah!!!  I can't watch the video because ESPN is having trouble loading it!  Curse technology!!!

I'll check back later, but will take this opportunity to pimp Bacon's book Overtime.  I'm about half way through it, and I knew that everyone involved put in long hours.  But good Gawd, during the season its unreal...  Example: the three video editors each spend about 100-120 hours/week, including unloading the equipment truck on their own after a road game just to get to their equipment - before anyone else shows up to help.  Ben Herbert is up at 3AM, and doesn't leave the office until 9-9:30 each day.  Insane!  You'd think, with all the money available, a few extra staff could come on during the season to help out...

Great video ... thanks!

At the start of that Klatt speaks about the emotion of walking into the stadium and having it open up before you as you walk in.  I can vividly -- and I mean like it was a moment ago -- recall the first time I saw Michigan Stadium unfold before me, and that was 1975.  I've been to a fair number of games, and every time I walked into the stadium I felt that rush.

He's absolutely right about running onto the field before the game. As we would be making our approach from the locker room the PA would start playing Hell's Bells. To this day the beginning of that song gives me chills.

I can't figure out why Klatt always seems to have a favorable take on UM.  He played at Colorado.  Maybe he just hates OSU?
