Glad to see all of you are so noble to walk away from $4.3 million
Dantonio’s a douche and there’s a lot of reasons to tear him a new one for skulking our the back door the way that he is. But his hanging around just long enough to get an extra 4 million isn’t one of them.
Every single one of you would have done the exact same thing and you’re all full of shit if you claim otherwise.
Otherwise, happy trails Mark. Don’t let the door hit you in your prideful ass on the way out.

Honestly, it's mostly a statement on the weakness of the MSU admins that they went along with this.
It's obvious what Dantonio was doing. It was obvious all the way back in October. That's fine. But Bill Beekman didn't object at all, he played along. President Stanley, to the degree he knew about this (maybe he didn't), played along too.
A stronger AD would have made a move in late November, and found a way to get Dantonio most if not all of that $4.3MM anyway.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:40 PM ^
Very true. They could have fired him prior to this, but decided to wait until today.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:46 PM ^
Firing him would have cost 7 million
February 4th, 2020 at 3:53 PM ^
Sorry...."asked to resign."
Same thing except the terms of the contract.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:40 PM ^
I don’t think they legally had much of a choice if it was in his contract.
Not that they would have done the right thing regardless.
February 4th, 2020 at 5:10 PM ^
I agree with you on much of this however to stick MSU behind the eight ball in hiring a new coach at this stage seems crazy. It leads me more to Dantonio is running from pending doom. Very Hollis like.
February 4th, 2020 at 7:22 PM ^
Indeed, very Hollis like. But they're both running towards something...
February 4th, 2020 at 3:40 PM ^
It would take someone who knew the difference between right and wrong and had integrity to turn down that money. Not surprised Mork did what he did. That said, he won’t be hard up for a meal anytime soon. He will be set for life and so will his family so it’s a little bit different than asking a guy making a moderate/average income if he’d take the money. Turning it down would have been classy, kind, appropriate, and unselfish. While many people who are all of those things might not be in a position turn that kind of money down, he certainly was and it speaks volumes
February 4th, 2020 at 3:47 PM ^
True, but even if you dumb it down to average guy money, I’m sure that almost everyone would stay a few weeks longer at a job they’d decided to leave if they knew they were due a nice chunk of change.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:53 PM ^
Maybe. These aren’t ordinary circumstances however. Me sticking around to get my bonus before I peace out is one thing. Me doing it while being investigated for things that led to young women being sexually assaulted is another.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:42 PM ^
Lol, I don't blame Dantonio at all if this was an actual cash grab. If anything it makes the University look like dipshits for not figuring out his intentions immediately after the bowl game and still offering to pay him his bonus so they could get an actual coaching search done.
Instead he gets his money, MSU will probably go a year with an interim coach and the same staff since the coaching carousel is over, their recruiting will tank even further and they will continue to be terrible.
And on top of it all he retired in a damn tweet like a teenager!
February 4th, 2020 at 3:47 PM ^
If they don't get a good coach this time, then they're going back to the days of John L. Smith.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:51 PM ^
Which is exactly why I think the MSU administration comes out looking like the idiots here. Chances are a thousand times better to pull a good coach in December than it is in February. A year of uncertainty and more losing will not help them pull in a top level coach next year (if unable to do it now).
February 4th, 2020 at 3:43 PM ^
Sure you didnt mean to post this with your RCMB account?
February 4th, 2020 at 3:46 PM ^
If I had the option to walk away from $4.3 million to preserve my integrity or keep it and wait for the 84-day news cycle to forget about me, I sure as shit wouldn't be posting on MGoBlog about my decision or the reasons for it.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:48 PM ^
So your last shit post was at -36 last time I was in there to respond to your ad hominems.
Not to be deterred, you start *this* shit post.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:52 PM ^
Enjoy the Lions going 4-12 with Stafford next year.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:12 PM ^
Lions are going below .500 regardless of the players on the field. It's their history.
February 4th, 2020 at 7:48 PM ^
Relevant.
February 4th, 2020 at 8:03 PM ^
It's a reference to BS from another of Utah's shit posts where s/he suggested the cure-all for the Lions is to dump Stafford and draft Tua.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:53 PM ^
Why is this a thread? Are you OK OP?
6.6.0February 4th, 2020 at 3:53 PM ^
4 million buys a lot of commitment from someone to keep a common front with the school
February 4th, 2020 at 4:01 PM ^
OK, Yes, I'd wait for the bonus and then leave BUT, Mork said at the end of the regular season that he "wasn't going anywhere". Was that a cryptic way of saying he'd stay at MSU in some capacity? Don't think so.
It was made clear that Mork would be the HC in the 2020 season. I think deposition thing is the walls closing in. I say, there a lot more to come on this.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:22 PM ^
I agree about the legal stuff closing in. If allegations are proven then MSU can say they aren’t responsible for the decisions of a head coach who is no longer employed there. I’m sure none of the other football coaches knew anything shady was going on (wink, wink).
February 4th, 2020 at 4:03 PM ^
I think the bigger douchebag part of it is leaving your coaching staff with very little time to find other jobs when he probably knew he was going to do this awhile ago. Then again they only had jobs last year probably because he didn't care about the future so maybe it evens that out.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:08 PM ^
This is either a very sensitive Michigan fan or a Michigan state troll that wandered over to the wrong board. This could have easily been a reply in the actual Mark Dantonio retirement thread, but you needed your own thread to scream it from a mountain top. Need some tissues?
February 4th, 2020 at 4:10 PM ^
Really screwing the recruits over
February 4th, 2020 at 4:15 PM ^
Yes though to be fair they thought they were going to play football at MSU for Mark Dantonio, so in a way they were already screwed
February 4th, 2020 at 4:29 PM ^
LOL True
February 4th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
Even doing this on the day that he got his bonus check in January would have at least given the recruits a little time to process this. Now it's about to be NSD and these kids are left with a lot of questions.
He's the greatest coach in their school history and he sends out a tweet instead of holding a press conference? It's February 4, and the information is starting to leak out from the Curtis Blackwell lawsuit. Most of the good coaching candidates have been poached, by now, and the unsigned recruits have almost no time to process this information. Something really smells fishy about the timing of all of this.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:37 PM ^
I agree. By releasing a statement, he doesn't have to answer any tough questions about the timing, the deposition, or anything else.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
Are Special Agent Utah and Maize 'n Ute the same guy? Seems like it.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:22 PM ^
Eat a dick, bruh!
February 4th, 2020 at 4:30 PM ^
He didn't "hang around just long enough" to get the bonus. He stayed, I think, like 30 days longer than that. If he wanted to leave MSU with the money, he could've told the admin that, stayed, let them be doing a shadow search in the background, and boom, everyone's golden.
This really looks like he wanted to come back and something came out in the Blackwell thing that forced someone's hand.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:32 PM ^
He could have negotiated an exit plan immediately after the bowl. He fled in the night and screwed everyone he worked with and damned his legacy. Now it’s hilarious because it’s MSU. But don’t act like he made any good choices here. He made the worst possible decision at almost every turn. He was apparently in high schools recruiting in the past 3 days. It’s not just about the money, it’s a bad look even if you ignore the money.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:37 PM ^
Interesting, that really does led credence to the idea that he was worried about the stuff coming out from the Blackwell situation if he was recruiting as of a couple days ago. Makes you wonder if he is worried about what else the NCAA would find if they went digging.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:33 PM ^
Hey if anyone needs something immoral done and has 4.3 million dollars to pay for it then go ahead and slide into my DM's and well get er done.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:38 PM ^
Sorry to burst your bubble, bub, but some of us actually do believe in striving to live an ethical life.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:41 PM ^
I have a lot of problems with Mork. But collecting a bonus that was placed into the contract as an incentive to stay until Jan 15, 2020...is not one of them. It is not a bonus for staying next year. It is a bonus for staying last year (and until January 15). It is what the contract was intended to achieve.
There is nothing unethical about collecting a bonus for staying exactly the time everyone intended for that bonus to accrue.
February 4th, 2020 at 5:53 PM ^
Exactly. That's why it had a critical date attached. This is more an indictment of MSU who was probably in the know and figured it's a nice "thanks, have a nice life" package. If they get a new coach in a week or two, you know they OK'd this.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:47 PM ^
WTF? .stupid post
February 4th, 2020 at 4:58 PM ^
Well, I guess the circle is complete.
Go Blue
February 4th, 2020 at 5:31 PM ^
Not the same situation at all.
February 4th, 2020 at 5:49 PM ^
If he earned that bonus, I have no problem with him getting it.
I have no problem, zero with people earning legit money any way that they can get it.
February 4th, 2020 at 7:20 PM ^
Nope.
February 4th, 2020 at 7:25 PM ^
He could have still coached in 2020, or maybe there’s something preventing him from doing that??
February 4th, 2020 at 7:40 PM ^
Shitbags who justify themselves by pretending everyone else is also a shitbag are my favorite.
February 4th, 2020 at 7:46 PM ^
It's nice to have someone publicly recognize and validate my nobility. Appreciate it.
