Personally, I just see this as Bama/Saban doing their due diligence. Crossing all the t's, dotting all the i's. Leaving no stone unturned, etc.

I mean why not do this? There is no downside (even in the court of public opinion), so you might as well secure every scrap of competitive advantage that you can.

It isn't unethical but it IS skeezy as hell and completely on brand for Saban.

I vaguely recall when UM was thinking about hiring a coach about 5 years ago who had a high profile QB son who was getting ready to pick a school and the media went ape-shit about how Harbaugh was trying to "put one over" on everyone to secure the QB recruit. UM ended up not hiring him but Oregon (IIRC) did and no one said a peep about how Oregon was trying to get a leg up on the kid's recruitment.

The double standards that only apply to Harbaugh are pretty mind boggling.

The fine gentlemen writing football book at BetMGM think this hire is worth...

...somewhat less than one-quarter of a point and not necessarily more than zero.

Because supposedly Partridge was head and shoulders above him as a coach. Which is completely not true. Helow was always the better coach. Partridge supposedly was the better recruiter too, then he proceeded to lose recruits Michigan should have gotten.

Well, this could be interesting.  Now we know that Alabama knows what to expect from Minter's defense.  It might be fun to find ways to use that knowledge against them. Can we throw a few curveballs to Coach Helow?

We've got pretty decent coaches.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I expect we’ll imminently see Tony Petitti busting through the walls of SEC headquarters like the KoolAid man, swearing up and down about competitive integrity and player safety.

This is bullshit. This is the biggest clown show of a sport ever.  So many rules yet so much inconsistency.  This is a display of how to circumvent that corny, harmless sign stealing shit.  AL. will most certainly win as they will have the most potent form of saboteur ever known to the sport.  Makes me not even want to watch.  This means that AL will appear gimped most of the game as they navigate our entire cfb program. Just for them to emerge like a mega dominant force as they casually revert to their original brand of football and catch the warriors of UoM off guard. I pray that I am wrong and we grind them up through sheer expertise of our own concept.

Saban is a master manipulator.  This creates a stir in the UM lockerroom and doesn't break any technical rules. Maybe some made up BS "sportsmanship" rule. So, he basically sticks a finger in the eye of both UM and the NCAA.

It's the kind of advantage I'd imagine Harbaugh taking if the program wasn't under so much scrutiny. Should still do it though..Saban must have like a billion ex coaches floating around out there.

This is going to test the coaching staff’s ability to get creative.

Clearly they can only change things up or try to misdirect from the plays they’ve been perfecting all year long, and for many, multiple years.

So let me make 2 silly ideas:

Silly Idea #1: At this level of football and with Saban’s level of Saban-ness as a coach and with a young QB…is it reasonably possible that in order to simulate the opposition as much as possible, Saban would put jersey numbers on the defense in practice to help give his QB every possible way to recognize the opposition?

If so…what if you changed everyone’s jersey number to throw any possible monkey wrench into the works?

And changing everyone’s number for the game wouldn’t matter much for the good guys. That’s pretty silly.

Silly Idea #2: Going into a good ol’ defensive huddle a la JV ball. QB will still get a look at the defense, but with a huddle and a quick run up to the LOS, the QB would have much less time to survey the defensive alignment.

Yes, the defense will still need to be evaluate on the fly as the offense comes to the line…but it is the offense which is under any sort of time constraint, not the D. Add to that, offenses can often take more time to set up and properly align than what the D needs.

The counter to that would be up-tempo, which potentially is prone to errors unless a team is well-practiced in it.

Like I said, silly ideas. But also like I said, the staff is going to have to get creative.

HAIL.

Yeah where is everyone with player safety and sportsmanship issues now? I still say Michigan needs to leave the Big Ten. That toilet bug Petitie won’t have any comment as he probably encouraged Bama to do this.

So the NCAA is not concerned with big programs spending money on something like this, but have a problem with money spent on a person taking video from their phone.  Makes sense.

How is knowing a team's signs going to give us such a big advantage in our upcoming games, but hiring a pervious coach of ours, and employing him right before they play us not raising any serious reactions?

Oh, that's right, it Saban, Alabama, and then SEC.... That explains it.
