Gardner's Injury

Submitted by Black Socks on

Does anyone know what he has?  Looked like a high ankle sprain.

I believe he got injured on one of those 4th and 3 QB sneaks.  We need him back against sparty if we are going to score any points.

Based on information from Hoke, Gardner's status is somewhere between completely fine to already dead from massive ankle sprain complications.   We won't know for sure until the warmups for MSU.

I'm not sure if you're serious, but since I don't see a "/s" at the end of your post, I'll assume that you are.

GET OVER IT!  Guys play with ankle sprains all the time.  Would you be in here praising Hoke for playing Bellomy for the entire game?  No, you'd be whining and calling for his head.

I know you didn't just call me an imbecile dude!

Do you ever listen to what the players say?  DG wanted to be in that game more than anything in the world, and he said so in his post-game interview.  He's the leader of the team, the QB, and his emotion is something that Michigan desperately needs.

Quit being so emo about things Dennis -- it's very unbecoming of a Michigan Man!

You're right about that.  However, unlike the other QB options (also, who knows whether Morris can run, right now, as well), he COULD THROW.  In fact, he threw considerably better on one leg than Bellomy did on two.

I don't have a problem playing injured players (assuming it's not a head injury or other "major injury") and they want to play.  These aren't 5 year old kids-- they're young adults and are capable of understanding consequences and making decisions regarding their own health.  Yes, step in and stop them on very serious ones.  An ankle sprain is not one of those times.

You sound like Rod Gilmore.

Seriously, since we have to support the team or else their feelings are hurt and we aren't true fans I suspect that Dave Brandon will unleash some sort of hashtag campaign Monday...

Football is about loving and supporting your team and making sure their feelings are nurtured.

I think that is the wisest strategic decision we could make at this point.  I don't understand why they don't admit the reason they don't talk about injuries (competitive advantage), but I definitely understand why they don't.  I don't think it makes a huge difference usually, but why not?  And in this case, Gardner vs. Morris/Bellomy is a huge huge dropoff.  I'd rather MSU wonder who's playing than have a clear picture of what Devin is dealing with.

I hope he's OK. I think he'll be fine based on what he said after the game. If he can't play no way we win. Hopefully he stays healthy the rest of the year, if we have to rely on Morris or Bellomy we are doomed. Speight and Malzone battle for the starting QB position next season.

Players play injured all the time. Chad Henne's shoulder was popping out every time he threw vs. MSU in 07. When it comes to head injuries the coaches need to step in and take them out of the game immediately.

I would Paypal a reporter 1k to deadpan look at Brady and say "really? you still call them "boo boos"? ... We use children's terminology with children... You have 18 to 22 year old men in that locker room and you want to use the term "boo boo". Do you want to clarify or should I use a pre-school term in my report?"

Absolutely hated hearing him call the game last night talking about whether or not Gardner should be in the game after he came back in to finish the game. He never was worried about John Navarre back there as a statue during his tenure as the QB. He was only slightly more mobile than Gardner was last night. They could have totally given props to Garnder for his toughness instead just hinted at it and focused more on coaching decisions over playing players. Quickly moving further down an already bottomed out list of commentators. Yes, that is possible!

Agreed. If you say a guy shouldn't be out there because he has a sprained ankle, then you might as well ban the sport of football. If the kid wants to be out there, then he should be. It's not an injury that will be debilitating or lead to brain damage or certain death. It's an injury that might lead to a botched handoff or a sack or a loss.

All valid points, until we were handing off to run down the clock, were obviously not ever going to pass, and Devin was basically hopping on one foot to reach the handoff point.

"If the kid wants to be out there then he should be" isn't a statement that should apply all the time.  Good parents don't just give their kid candy every time he asks, so if Hoke has 115 sons, then maybe exercise some grown-up judgment and send Bellomy in to hand off so Devin doesn't hurt himself worse than he already is.
