Game Thread: Men’s basketball at Penn State - noon EST, BTN

Submitted by Amazinblu on January 29th, 2023 at 11:14 AM

The men’s hoops team returns to the hard court against PSU at noon EST with a broadcast on BTN.

Both teams are in the. Middle of the Pack in the B1G.

Any realistic chance for an NCAA bid, probably means this is a must win game.

Hopefully - the hoops squad can do what the hockey team did earlier this weekend - without a five minute major.

Go Blue!

Dickinson shows so many signs that he's not well coached. He has a clear size advantage in this game (and many others this year), but voluntarily choses to shoot those pull ups and hook shots instead of aggressively pushing down low to get dunks and layup attempts. Worst case scenario is you get fouled and shoot free throws, which he's quite good at.

Lmao right. There are so many on this board that never liked the Juwan hire and can’t fathom that Beilein left on his own volition.

This year is in the dumpster. Juwan will get another year at least. JUST LIKE HARBAUGH who most of these Juwan haters loved even though he sucked until 2021.

I wonder why.

It’s his 4th year and the team has no identity. His recruiting has been mid at best and he can’t develop guards. That’s not even including the in game decisions that are peculiar to say the least. Seems to me like that’s a cocktail for disaster and it’s playing out right before our eyes.

I hated Juwan hire. Wasn’t great First year Covid bailed him out. Fantastic second year with a great team left over by JB but he added Franz Smith and Chaundee and I felt ok he knows what he is looking for. Last year was ok with a great sweet 16 run that covered up a lot. Now this year. This is alarming.

Haa, got one!  I never said anything about Belein.  Tell me again how awesome JuwAn's doing, I look forward to your flailing.

And the reason I capitalize the "A", is because I accidently spelled his name with an "o" once, and that really caused the nut huggers to get highly upset, so now I make sure I do it right...nobody wants to see upset nut huggers.

When you hear Martelli telling Sam webb stuff like “ if a players asks about NIL , they are not interested in them ! “ That’s all you need to know why we aren’t recruiting like we need to

I’d like to hear a defense of him. Had he not been with Fab Five he would have  roaring fire on him. People keep pointing to a well developed Beilein who made a huge shift in style of play as their reason. Beilein struggled too is their red herring. He loves Michigan. So does XM. Place him in that spot then. Those expectations of improvement next year need to point to players outside of maybe Bufkin, that have developed under Howard.

I love Juwan, but he’s just not a very good coach.  Average, but not good. I blame Beilien, for leaving in May. If he’d have done what was best for Michigan, he’d have left in March/early April, and Michigan would have gotten Nate Oats.

I got so many negs on those old threads for advocating for Cooley. My view was that he was ascending with less talent than what Michigan had, and that no top 15 program should EVER hire a coach with no head coaching experience and absolutely zero college coaching experience. That's some MAC level shit!

Everything you said is true except for the whole part about Belien players.  Howard went 23-5 his second year and Livers was the only significant Belien recruit on that team.  Could add Johns and Davis to that list I guess.

Howard had one astronomical year but what he's missing is leadership, the last two seasons have been void of any real leadership and lack of any chemistry.  Outside of a miracle, this will be the third year we failed to get to 20 wins in his four years of coaching.
