The Game from the loser's perspective

Submitted by gustave ferbert on November 30th, 2022 at 10:20 AM

I've watched the game several times now (doesn't get old), is there a link out there where I can listen/watch with the Buckeye radio team calling the game.

I want to take in their misery.

Paul Keels is a very good announcer. That said, respectfully, Bob Ufer brought something unique to his broadcasts, something we no longer see. He remains my all-time favorite football announcer. Listen to his call of Billy Taylor's touchdown against Ohio State in 1972; it's special.

They have/had totally different styles.  Keels is uber-professional, remains on an even "keel" and provides great detail.  He's one of the best play-by-play announcers I've ever heard.

Ufer was the biggest homer ever and had the enthusiasm of three people.  He was fun to listed to and was great in his own way...if you were a Michigan fan.

I agree. I've listened to many of Paul Keels' calls over the years, and he's eminently smooth and incredibly detailed. Let it be noted, he was a Wolverine before he became the voice of the Buckeyes. Indeed, he used to call Michigan football and basketball games on WWJ back in the early 80's, and then was at Cincinnati before taking the Columbus job.

I listen to a lot of the SiriusXM on Saturdays too --- Keels is #1 by far IMO among the various CFB play-by-play guys.  Great strong voice, not overly partisan an absolute pro.

Karsch is a tough listen.  He's fairly partisan, which is fine, I don't care about that.  But (and this isn't really his fault) he doesn't have a strong voice at all.

I was looking for exactly this! I lived in Ohio for a number of years and listened to these guys on the radio quite a bit. They actually seem like a decent crew...no issues with them...worlds better than Blaha and that duo. I never got to hear them call an OSU loss to Michigan so I was wondering if something out there existed. Thanks!

I'll do that sometimes. Replay whatever happened and wonder what were their fans thinking as soon as they saw Johnson catch that ball wide open? I'd love to have heard what people in ohio homes and sports bars were yelling every time Michigan torched them.

Here's a couple for you to check out.

A letter from a very sad Ohio State student. I’ve never seen the Buckeyes beat Michigan as an Ohio State student.

OSU fan videos himself throughout the day. There is some swearing and drinking in it.

I confess to having clicked and finding myself entertained. I have never heard of these guys. Is there a reason I should feel remorse for having clicked?

Edit: I do, however, wish someone would start some sort of scandel or something about Minter, about whom these guys gush. Did he once kick a puppy or do anything else we can use? He is way too desirable for others to tempt him away from the good guys.

There are many reaction videos of the game on YouTube that are just there to try to get clicks. This one stands out because it is actually a live reaction and gives due respect to the victors.

Paul Keels, with what was known in the radio as "Golden Pipes.".  (A Xavier grad, actually) he called Pistons and Michigan games (football and basketball) in the 80s. Pretty straightforward. It was obvious the radio team didn't have the benefit of the TV monitors. The commentator had a bit of a homer perspective, but other than calling out an imaginary hold on Zinter, they called it pretty straight.

I had the misfortune of driving through Ohio during the game and had to listen to their radio team. They kept calling Donovan Edwards Donovan Jackson. But it was kind of funny when they said Mike Sainristil "booped" it out of that receiver's hands.
