Michigan Highlights vs Ohio State With OSU Radio Broadcast

Thank you very much!

Well they seemed surprisingly business-like about it.
November 30th, 2022 at 10:39 AM ^
Yeah. Aside from an "Aw, geez!" when CJ was running wide open there is little to show them to be homers. Maybe a complete game would show more. Quite professional, actually.
November 30th, 2022 at 8:30 PM ^
I find them to be a rather enjoyable crew to listen to. And we beat Jim Lachey’s son as well this year (Iowa TE).

Paul Keels is probably the best single thing associated with that school. One of the very few people I would want to have take over for Grapentine when he retires. Too bad that dude is all buckeye
November 30th, 2022 at 11:42 AM ^
Amen to that. Paul Keels might be the best broadcaster i've ever heard (sorry Bob Ufer) and even though I cant stand the Buckeyes I really enjoy listening to him call a game.
Not surprised he was professional throughout.

Paul Keels is a very good announcer. That said, respectfully, Bob Ufer brought something unique to his broadcasts, something we no longer see. He remains my all-time favorite football announcer. Listen to his call of Billy Taylor's touchdown against Ohio State in 1972; it's special.
November 30th, 2022 at 12:22 PM ^
They have/had totally different styles. Keels is uber-professional, remains on an even "keel" and provides great detail. He's one of the best play-by-play announcers I've ever heard.
Ufer was the biggest homer ever and had the enthusiasm of three people. He was fun to listed to and was great in his own way...if you were a Michigan fan.

The famous TD was in 1971. OSU won the game in Columbus in 1972.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:46 AM ^
I've thought that many times....just never allowed myself to say it out loud....
November 30th, 2022 at 12:06 PM ^
I agree. I've listened to many of Paul Keels' calls over the years, and he's eminently smooth and incredibly detailed. Let it be noted, he was a Wolverine before he became the voice of the Buckeyes. Indeed, he used to call Michigan football and basketball games on WWJ back in the early 80's, and then was at Cincinnati before taking the Columbus job.
November 30th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Yep, back in that era where WJR and WWJ both had Michigan radio rights. I never fully understood why both stations had the games, but it was Keels than Larry Henry on the WWJ side.

Keels and Eli Gold (Alabama) are two of the best radio PBP guys out there. They know how to be professionally biased and are enjoyable to listen to. I can't wait to listen to them call their teams NY6 bowl games next month.

I'm often driving my 6-year-old around on Saturday afternoons and got Sirius XM this year, so I've had the chance to listen to the OSU radio team a bunch of times. I was shocked at how good they were (way better than Karsch & Jansen IMHO).
November 30th, 2022 at 12:20 PM ^
I listen to a lot of the SiriusXM on Saturdays too --- Keels is #1 by far IMO among the various CFB play-by-play guys. Great strong voice, not overly partisan an absolute pro.
Karsch is a tough listen. He's fairly partisan, which is fine, I don't care about that. But (and this isn't really his fault) he doesn't have a strong voice at all.

I agree, this is far from the Jason Strayhorn pouting session that Sparty would put up.
November 30th, 2022 at 10:30 AM ^
Credit where credit is due -- that broadcast team does a nice job of describing the game, regardless of whether it's pro-OSU or against them.
November 30th, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
In 2016, I was driving through Ohio for part if The Game, listening to the radio call. I agree, they were pros, even managing to throw subtle shade without sounding crass.
Specifically, when M came out in the vertical huddle / Train formation, they called it "the caterpillar."
Jerks.
November 30th, 2022 at 10:57 AM ^
They certainly did better than the tv broadcast.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:57 AM ^
Sounds like an old-school baseball broadcast.
November 30th, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
I was looking for exactly this! I lived in Ohio for a number of years and listened to these guys on the radio quite a bit. They actually seem like a decent crew...no issues with them...worlds better than Blaha and that duo. I never got to hear them call an OSU loss to Michigan so I was wondering if something out there existed. Thanks!
November 30th, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
These guys are fantastic!
November 30th, 2022 at 5:43 PM ^
Dude sounds like Mike Rowe.... not a bad thing.
November 30th, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
GD that was beautiful
November 30th, 2022 at 10:37 AM ^
I'll do that sometimes. Replay whatever happened and wonder what were their fans thinking as soon as they saw Johnson catch that ball wide open? I'd love to have heard what people in ohio homes and sports bars were yelling every time Michigan torched them.
November 30th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
Here's a couple for you to check out.
A letter from a very sad Ohio State student. I’ve never seen the Buckeyes beat Michigan as an Ohio State student.
OSU fan videos himself throughout the day. There is some swearing and drinking in it.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:35 AM ^
Thanks, this guy did a good job on the vid.
December 1st, 2022 at 9:20 AM ^
Yeah! And at 11:30 his end zone view of the entire play shows that Sainristil was like 10 steps back from Stover when he realized the TE was running a route. Simply amazing speed and wonderful effort.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:38 AM ^
Sounds like the letter could be written by any UM fan during most years between 2000 and 2019. Oof.
November 30th, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
Talking about losers, here's Zach "dildo brain" Smith's take/spin if you care to have a laugh.
November 30th, 2022 at 10:56 AM ^
Why drive clicks to that dillweed? Dude deserves similar treatment as Yoder 'round these parts IMO.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
I confess to having clicked and finding myself entertained. I have never heard of these guys. Is there a reason I should feel remorse for having clicked?
Edit: I do, however, wish someone would start some sort of scandel or something about Minter, about whom these guys gush. Did he once kick a puppy or do anything else we can use? He is way too desirable for others to tempt him away from the good guys.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:16 AM ^
No. I think he's funny.
November 30th, 2022 at 2:23 PM ^
I thought the Zach Smith video was very good from a football point of view.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
I don't think you will get that from OSU's radio broadcast. They call a good game over there.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:32 AM ^
There are many reaction videos of the game on YouTube that are just there to try to get clicks. This one stands out because it is actually a live reaction and gives due respect to the victors.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:34 AM ^
Paul Keels, with what was known in the radio as "Golden Pipes.". (A Xavier grad, actually) he called Pistons and Michigan games (football and basketball) in the 80s. Pretty straightforward. It was obvious the radio team didn't have the benefit of the TV monitors. The commentator had a bit of a homer perspective, but other than calling out an imaginary hold on Zinter, they called it pretty straight.
November 30th, 2022 at 11:38 AM ^
I watched this last night and boy was it delicious. I did multiple playbacks on the Donovan Edwards daggers and JJ bombs.
November 30th, 2022 at 12:07 PM ^
Less rending of garments and gnashing of teeth than I expected.
November 30th, 2022 at 12:23 PM ^
This is actually pretty funny to watch.
November 30th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
I had the misfortune of driving through Ohio during the game and had to listen to their radio team. They kept calling Donovan Edwards Donovan Jackson. But it was kind of funny when they said Mike Sainristil "booped" it out of that receiver's hands.
November 30th, 2022 at 12:45 PM ^
By far the best one ive seen - starting at 2:40 where it is market.. Right after the games, raw emotion, so good
November 30th, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^
QUESTION: what is the embed code to set the width?
November 30th, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
Well, on the regular broadcast you can still take in Gus Johnson's misery.
November 30th, 2022 at 10:09 PM ^
They have a really great PBP guy. Great voice - even keel. We had Brandstatter.
