Friday Posbang- Lets Talk about What is Going Well in Your Life

Submitted by xtramelanin on May 17th, 2019 at 6:01 AM

Mates,

We lost the greatest basketball coach in school history and then recruits started to (understandably) wander away.  Obviously we all want the coaching search to find another unicorn but unfortunately those probably don't exist, or if they do, they are under contract somewhere else and aren't coming to AA.  Its been a crud sandwich kind of a week for U of M.

Well, enough of that for now.  Let's talk about what is going well in your world, some humble-brag and/or just plain old genuinely pleasing stuff that's happening in your life. Made your sales goal at work?  Job promotion or interview imminent?  Fitness goals, weight loss, training for a race?  How about your family, kids doing alright, maybe some of them knocking it out in school or on the ball or soccer field?  Your spouse/GF/BF is a champ and you are looking forward to a great weekend?

Let's hear it, let's hear about the good stuff.  Enough belly-aching for a while.  Brag away and have some fun doing it.   I hope you have a great weekend, the weather has definitely warmed up some.

My life is falling apart but I saw a cool couch in Lansing when I was there for work.

So I got that going on for me, which is nice.

Just bought a puppy and a house with a yard for the puppy.  First time dog owner, first time home owner.  The adventure is real.

Just celebrated my son's 22nd birthday at the Chop House. Son #2 has one more week of school in his senior year. Third son is tearing it up on the JV golf team (look out Brooks Koepka). And my school teacher wife will be finishing up the school year soon and were going have a nice relaxing summer.

I laughed. I thought. I cried. I had a full day.

“If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.”

I knew this was XM before opening the post. You’re always bringing good vibes. Thanks!

Michigan football is strong and is looking to be stronger, love that.

My children, wife and I are all healthy.

Sitting on my deck sipping coffee and listening to birds communicate. Great start to any day.

Enjoy the day all.

OK.  I'll bite.

The business I started three years ago - after about 20 years in the corporate world - is really starting to take off.  Pretty exciting to be a 50 year old entrepreneur.

My son finished up high school and is going to enjoy a few months off before heading up to Ann Arbor as a third-generation Michigan Man!  (In addition to my mother and wife also being Michigan grads)

Started lifting/working out about six weeks ago after a long hiatus.  Already had a few people make comments.  "You been lifting, bro?"

Been enjoying watching my 9th grade daughter make up for what she lacks in size and athletic ability with grit and physicality out on the pitch with her high school soccer team.  (Yes, she is like the Zack Novak of 9th grade soccer.)

New landscaping we put in last fall is looking really nice this spring.  Looking forward to dining and relaxing outdoors this summer.

Had a note in our mailbox from a national production company re: filming a television commercial in our home.  Looks like it might be happening!

So, at this point, things are pretty good in the 1989 UM Grad world.  Still some struggles and other issues that come along with getting older.  But, all in all.  Pretty pretty good.

Still wake up every day thinking noooooooobody got it better.  Beautiful wife, three healthy kids (including one UM grad), and a dog that follows me around wherever I go.  Beautiful day, and smells like summer outside.  Bring it, and bang me.

It's the last day of school for our two young grands. Lots of camping expeditions planned for the summer with our charming little Scamp trailer-starting next week...anything that gets one out of this godforsaken state that is Kansas is a positive.

We survived another great flood-actually two back-to-back. Our pastures are lush and green. The cattle and sheep are fat and sassy...lots of  baby lambs and a new calf. The baby chicks are no longer baby chicks. The garden and fruit trees are doing well...lots of good salads greens are here.

Last week, my wife submitted her resignation at her clinic to start her own mental health private practice!  Its a lot of work right now but once its up and running, she should be making just as much money by working about 2/3 of the hours.  Spending more time with our adorable 1 year old daughter is the main objective.  The adventure officially starts in 3 weeks!

More immediately, I'm getting together with my best friends from college for the weekend.  We're all spread around the country, so this doesn't happen often.  We'll hopefully take it easy tonight so we aren't completely ruined tomorrow.

Also: I officially transitioned to full time stay at home dad/house husband last month. Raising infant twins and a 7 and 9 year old. Pretty darn happy about it. It's not at all a vacation like some think but it's a meaningful way to live.

I was a stay at home dad many moons ago.  I wouldn't trade that time for anything.  Now they're all grown up--two have master's degrees and one a PhD (the Sparty undergrad--but we don't hold that against her).  The youngest just turned 26 and makes more money (6 figures) than the rest of us with a master's in electrical and computer engineering. I'm more proud and thankful for my children's health, well being, and successes than anything I accomplished.

I didn't have twins, but the older two were 12 1/2 months apart. It wasn't always easy, but it rarely was all that difficult either.  As they get older, having a ready playmate at home can be a real help.

The school year is winding down and looking forward to a nice relaxing summer with the boys and wife. Sports are in full swing; oldest got his first triple and then scored a goal in his soccer game, middle got 6 outs playing second base and scored two goals in his game, little guy still dancing on the t ball field.

This thread had to be XM for sure. Enjoy the warm temps. Hoping to get some fishing in amongst all the sports.

Turn 42 in two weeks and celebrating 11 years of marriage in one week.

Taking a little weekend trip with the girlfriend in a few hours here. Air BnB'd a nice little cottage in Twin Lake Michigan and plan on relaxing, fishing, grilling, and drinking all my troubles away for a couple days. Having a little cottage of my own like this is definitely a life goal!

My wife has breast cancer, but she just had her last AC chemo treatment yesterday. So she is past that. The tumor has shrunk significantly already! 2 weeks off, then 12 weeks straight of taxol. She has been a champ through all of this and has done really well. If anything, this has brought us both closer to each other. 35 years old is too young for this. We're gonna beat this!

We just found out last week that the twins we are expecting in September are both boys and are  perfectly healthy, for which we are so thankful! We’re praying everything continues going well with the pregnancy so we can make our annual trip to the family cabin in the UP this summer. My 4 y/o daughter is kind of shy and was quite anxious to play soccer for the first time this year but she’s loving it and doing great. Teaching reading to my oldest son (we homeschool) has been challenging but it’s finally starting to click for him, which is rewarding for both of us! And my 2 y/o son keeps us in stitches, especially when he insists my stomach is so big because I eat too much food. Life is chaotic but sweet!

I played catch with my 4 year old son last night and threw him some batting practice in the backyard.  My wife is hot and is starting a new job next month.  All my kids are healthy and both of our vehicles are still running.

My girlfriend got a new job in downtown Grand Rapids. We move in together in a month. I have a bachelor party down in Florida (Mid July). I'm going to Oktoberfest this fall along with Copenhagen and Stockholm. Pretty solid 4 months coming up.
