New Mexico State is leading 14-7 in the second quarter while Liberty is driving. Game is on CBS Sports Network.

Oregon vs Washington 8PM on ABC. Winner likely Michigan's first playoff opponent after they take care of business tomorrow.

This game is instructional for us.

The CFP is a different critter.  You win on offense.  Nobody has "won on defense" in the CFP era.  The best you can hope for is to just slow down the opposing offense, trade some touchdowns for field goals.  You can not afford empty possessions.  It's like men's tennis, you just hope to break serve once or twice to win.

The main reason we were so excited this year is because we finally have JJ, the kind of QB that wins CFP games by keeping drives alive and then cashing in.  Cade was never going to be that kind of guy.

If we make the CFP, we will have to let JJ cook, and match score with score.

We needed to play the whole game the way we played in the second half.  In the second half we matched every TCU score, but we were always coming from behind and chasing points.

We were arrogant, quite frankly.  We thought that we could just run the ball down their throats in 15 play 10 minute drives.  When we were forced to give up on that notion, we went out and did what we need to do and scored quickly.  But it was too late.

Empty possessions are death.

Law of averages starting to kick in for the UW/OR game?  Oregon seems to be getting their shit together.

Still...if you are a UW fan, you are elated.  You always want the lead, and Oregon has slowed down UW on only one of their possessions so far.

Rematches are so weird.

Oregon was better @ Washington but their coach went full Dan Campbell on every play and it cost Oregon the win.  Their lines were better than Washintgon's

Fast forward to tonight and somehow Washington OL is peak Michigan :) makes all the difference.  Penix with time is lethal. He was moved by Oregon a lot more @ HOME.  Wacky!

Our defense spending the entire year prepping for OSU is going to translate well to Washington. Graham and KG filling up the middle. The ability to play -1 in the box. The ability to cover an NFL receiver.

And I think our offense does way better than Oregon's as well.

We lost because we ditched the defense that worked so well against osu, in all honesty. Cover 1 and 0 against a team that, all season, was incapable of sustaining drives, and could only score on explosive plays was coaching malpractice. The only knock against minter in his entire brilliant career.

I’m confident in Michigan, but DeBoer is a really good coach and those three WRs are terrifying. If it is Michigan and Washington in the Rose Bowl, Jesse Minter is going to have to earn his check.
