I don't get this ... before even playing a game and being annoyed about other recruits? This makes no sense to me.

Something just seems off about the basketball program this year. I don't know if the old guard - livers, wagner, with the transfers (brown and smith) were what kept the team focused and on target last year, but this year's team seemed to be rudderless and have no real leaders. These stories keep filling in that picture.

I hope this is a blip, there just seems to be a lot of dissatisfaction? I understand that this is common everywhere, but to have a 2nd year PG who just came into his own, with the team basically being his to run next year to bolt is just odd.....

I disagreed that he came onto his own. Solid 2 games stretch at the end of the season but he was nondescript. He's a non-shooter and isn't a natural playmaker/creator. It would be a tall leap for him to play at the same level as Zavier, Mike Smith and DeVante as a PG.

It wasn't just Frankie who wasn't happy. It was his family who wasn't happy that he wasn't playing much last season.

Bro - that was the entire Michigan team. 2 solid games at the end of the season. Yet, when I bring that up, people get defensive and say that we were "on the cusp" of the elite 8. Yeah, we were a win from that, but we also were pretty average at best most of the season.

I think as a player, things can change. Sure, not always - see Johns, Brandon post 2021 tourney. But this is a freshman PG who showed promise in some form. Moreso than bufkin, barnes (didnt play), and honestly even houstan who seemed to go up and down with no clear reason as to why. Not saying he was better than houstan, but houstan was all over the map with no consistency and didnt seem to really get better

I think it’s become pretty clear that the coaching staff were not sold on Frankie as the starting and full-time PG for the team next year and he’s been considering this transfer for a while.

Agreed - silly or not - the guy is a legend beyond words in the college game.. and barring bad knees, would be in the pantheon of the pro legends. He can say whatever he likes.. Its guys like Tom Tolbert however (for those of you old enough to remember) who are utterly useless.

But point still holds. I don't recall seeing any Pac12 games and i watch a lot of college bball.. I do remember watching josh christopher play briefly once before I went to bed and thought... ehh whatever.

It'll be fun to see Juwan's scheme for guarding him. It'll be like young Giannis when the defender just sinks back to the FT line while Frankie is out past the 3pt line.

I've seen it mentioned that recruiting other teams Sophomores is the new hottest trend, what with the free 1-time transfer rule, NIL cash floating around, and the typical 2nd year jump. This sucks to lose Frankie, but I feel sorry for him and these other young guys who are jumping ship to lesser programs in year 2. His best chance for growth was continuing momentum in Maize and Blue, playing WITH Jaelyn in the same backcourt. Those who stay...

Why feel sorry?  It was his decision to make to jump ship.  Last year's PG job was his for the taking when DeVante was struggling mightily at the beginning of the year.  Luckily, DeVante slowly improved but if Frankie couldn't snatch the job at that point then he probably won't be able to do so now. Hence, the transfer.

I think he had good qualities of a playmaking point but the shooting from the line and some other things were a bit worrisome.  Oh well.

Wish him luck.  ASU is bringing in 4 guys via transfer plus their one top-100 recruit is a PG so it's going to be a team with some growing pains, but the Pac-12 is a weird conference and maybe they can get back into the tourney?

I know the fear with NIL is that teams are just going to buy players but honestly, this type of transfer still feels like it'll be a dominant one - a player is unhappy with his current situation and tries to go somewhere else for a shot to compete on a bigger/more conducive stage.

Interesting shot at Michigan he took. It's hard to see why he was upset that Michigan was willing to bring in another guard, what basketball team only has 3 scholarships guards? Then to be upset about them getting a PG, did you really expect to never sit and not have a back up and only have 2 guards on the roster? It's very strange. I wasn't a huge fan of him because he was a non-shooter, but I still think he can be really good in a couple years and on a team with a lot of shooters to space the floor for him to attack downhill.

Will definitely miss his defense, but who knows if he would have been better on offense. It's very possible Dug is better at running the offense, but obviously his size and also being a bad shooter will be hard to overcome.

Bought those tickets for Barclays on a flyer.  Now Michigan could face B Johns and Zeb from VSU or Frankie and ASU.  Didn't really want this type of drama at the expense of one my favorite player (RIP Frankie), but these are must watch match ups now (particularly with the call out and prospect that Big D is going to toss Frankie into the bleachers now).
