Former UM Running Back Mister Simpson Passes Away
Sad day. Way too young.. Being that he was a Wolverine, hopefully they can do something for him during the regular season.
[title edit @ 1:29 pm -rob f]
Would it have been too much trouble to put the guy's name in your post? I'm glad someone else posted this awful news at the same time and did include his name so everyone doesnt have to wonder who it was without clicking the link.
To be fair, you have to be a pretty die hard fan to even know who Mister Simpson is.
Fixed the title to include the name Mister Simpson (which wasn't anywhere in the title or post).
1. If you're on this board you have no excuse to not know who Mister Simpson is.
2. He was first team all-name the day he committed.
I remember him well. This kind of news really sucks. RIP!
That’s your choice of post when someone dies? Very MGoBlogish of you.
Condolences to his loved ones, rest easy big fella….
Or you could just click the link
LOL, apparently you didn't like my edit of your OP and proceeded to neg me. Back atcha!
But maybe next time you post an OP you'll remember to include what most here consider the basic info, including identifying the subject of the post.
Isn't whole purpose of posting here is not to tease and accumulate points[?], it's to enhance knowledge and share information, providing links for those who wish to dig deeper, but giving the reader enough information to decide whether they need/want to.
If Rob F had not edited your original post, it would’ve racked up a lot of negatives. Instead of being hostile and defensive, you should be thanking him.
Man dies.
Someone starts a thread about it.
mGrowOld grumbles about posting etiquette.
Like the salmon of Capistrano.
+1 for the "salmon of Capistrano" reference I had to google!
Very MGoBlog indeed.
Don't forget Sal Quattro chiming in with how many people died even younger and more tragically in a different era and/or culture.
Like sands through the hourglass...
The comments above are pure MGOBLOG gold. Well done!
Lol every single Sal Quattro comment is a mini history lesson.
i don’t know, seems like a legit comment to me.
Man dies
OP, trying to be clever, withholds name of deceased in title. I call them out on it. Mod agrees with me and fixes error. OP gets mad that Mod fixes error.
KRK not knowing any of the backstory because he joined the thread three hours after all this happens takes a shot at me.
The salmon line though was funny. Kudos to you for that one.
Bro, just go eat a lemon and be done with it….
"I call them out on it." Well, what we do without Sherriff GrowOld out here policing the internet. Thank you for your service.
Man dude I had a few minutes to kill so I went back to read your other comments (was curious how someone could be a member of the board for 14 years yet only have 3K points) and quickly realized that literally EVERY comment you make is a negative observation on someone here or elsewhere. Now I have to admit I gave up reading them around January so maybe there was something you said positive before then but the year 2023 was not one where you were a very happy fellow.
So I guess it was just my turn in the barrel.
I wish I had your time!
You had a few minutes to kill so went back and read all my comments going back to January, so you could rush back here and point out your observation that I'm unhappy?
Wow. Guess I better change my entire outlook on life now. Thank you.
I appreciate you mGrow, but take it easy on the points! Not all of us can be so prolific!
Sorry for his family.
Wasn't he around the same time (maybe same class) as Cobrani Mixon? Those two were definitely all-name team types.
Shame his football career and life didn't play out like he probably expected coming out of high school. Regardless, I'm sure it's a tough loss for his family. Prayers to his loved ones.
Close. Mister Simpson was class of 2005. Cobrani Mixon was 2006.
I remember him as a tough fullback/big back prospect out of Cincinnati that I wanted to succeed here based on name alone. He had trouble hanging onto the rock, as I recall, and saw his playing time diminish before transferring out. All of which are of no consequence. RIP, good sir. [edit] Here’s a better link to the story, courtesy of Wolverine Wire:
Former lacrosse star as well if I recall?
If memory serves, Mister Simpson was expected to be the starting RB or top RB out of his class. He was beat out by Mike Hart for the starting role.
Hart took the starting job over in 2004 as a freshman. Mister Simpson didn't arrive until 2005. Also, Kevin Grady was a 5-star running back in the class of 2005, so I don't think many people expected Simpson to be the starter.
you're thinking of max martin.
Yes! That was him.
The great thing about the Internet and MGoBlog is that if you make a mistake, someone will correct you. Just make it in the comments and not in an post and it will usually be painless enough!
Damn. He was on the team when I was school. Too young...
This is such a guy thread, with the sniping and correcting. Like brothers, all'a you's. And RIP to Mister Simpson.
Well he started it! ;-)
Take it outside. I'm fixing dinner.
LOL, next time Seth needs more "moms" (moderators) and asks for suggestions?
You and Wendyk5 just clinched getting my nominations!
I remember watching him during the spring game and being very impressed with his running. The spring games became painfully boring during the Carr years as they stopped being an actual game and just morphed into timed drills. (They also stopped letting fans on to the field afterwards to get pictures and autographs with the players around this time.) Mister Simpson was the most interesting thing about the game that year....other than Braylon Edwards showing up in the hot pink shirt.
Really sorry to hear this news.
Met him down on the field way back when they did a meet the players thing at the stadium. He signed a football for my nephew (who just turned 28). Simpson was a freshman and I remember telling my nephew he could possibly be the next great running back for Michigan.
I think he had a brother named Sir
That's right. I remember it being explained that their mother liked the sound of "Mr. Simpson" and having a son that had to be called "Sir"
Waiting for someone to name their kid "Bruh"
That's sad. Waaaay too young.
Condolences to his family.
Way, way, way too young. RIP, Mister Simpson.
I hate everything about this thread, including the sniping. Aside the salmon.
Wolverines should never die, yet they all do. If you helped drive Mr. Hart to excellence and played for the TEAM that is all I need to know. And considering the time frame any likeness or relation to one Homer J. Simpson is purely metaphysical. Definitely first string all time hall of namer in my book. RIP and condolences.
