Former Tiger Brandon Inge loves coaching at Michigan

“I love the college level because it's all about team, but what I took from last year more than anything is the impact you can make on a player,” he said. “You never forget your college years. It’s about making it fun and making it memorable and teaching them how to go 100 percent every day and try to demolish the other team. You're instilling what it takes to become great men.”

First thought whenever Inge comes up is still that Home Run Derby.

I don’t think he would have ended up as a perennial all-star but there had been some noted improvement, hence his All-Star selection. Too lazy to go back and check his WAR over time, but that Derby seemed to be a turning point in his quest to be a plus-hitter in addition to being a decent utility fielder and great clubhouse guy.

Glad he’s in a good place in AA. Always was a fan despite some (deserved) criticism.

My first thought was Inge’s walk-off home run the year they lost so many games. After a vacation by the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, we were on our way east and stopped at Comerica. So great to see the Tigers win one, beating the Yankees.

MUCH better than another summer when we stopped in AA for the App State game.

radically different lighting and shadows on his face as compared to everyone else in the picture.  for instance, the shadow that the bill of his cap creates is almost non-existent and shows light from in front, but not above. contrast that with the fans in the picture whose ball caps show much different and darker shadows (inge's is extremely light) and larger/more from light above.

also, look at the neck line of his jersey, that doesn't look natural.  and he's not even looking at his glove.  now a major leaguer might not, but at that critical moment i would tend to think his eyes would be on the glove. lastly, the lighting on his face in general is much lighter and with less shadows than the other faces.

could be a real picture that someone just 'cleaned up', but somebody worked on it.  no big deal, just an observation.

EDIT: i would add that my recollection of inge was that he was almost always wearing sunglasses when he played during the day.  further, for a guy who would be spending the majority of his days outside from february to october, he sure is pasty-pale in that picture.

Why would anyone Photoshop (ie. alter to the point of deception) this?  What's there to gain? The shadows in the corner of Comerica or any outdoor venue are not a reliable indicator at any single moment in time. He's showing the ball in his glove, not making the catch at that moment. The neckline is the way it is because his jersey is being pulled. Here's another angle better showing the wall he was resting on:

I've taken a close look at the shot and I don't see any of the tell-tale digital artifacts of two separate images being combined. Achieving this result from two images would require a shitload of experience, skill and time, and then the obvious question you'd have to ask is why anybody would to that?

I agree that Inge himself appears brighter than the people immediately behind him, but I suspect that the photographer—who was obviously a professional out on the field—was using a flash. The general light conditions and lack of sharp shadows indicate it was an overcast sky, and using a flash would be normal, especially when shooting action. A flash would naturally illuminate Inge the most, and would make his white uniform particularly stand out.

But most tellingly, Blue Bunny's pic shows conclusively it's a real image.

(I'm not a doctor and don't play one on TV, but I am a graphic designer with 40 yrs in the biz and at least 25 years of working with Photoshop.)

Met Inge in an elevator in 2008 with Granderson, Marcus Thames and Ryan Raburn and 2 hot women when the Tigers came out here that season, I  was wearing my Verlander jersey....Inge was cool as we chatted, I told them my name was Mick and Inge called me Mickey Mantle and I said yes, that's me, I hit over 500 HR's and everyone laughed. Very friendly guy

But more importantly, today is 2/11/22....2 × 11 = 22, I love numbers!

After seeing him go through so many changes in fortune I thought he would make a great coach for college players. He maintained a positive and team first attitude through everything.

Is he still swinging through chest high fastballs?

I kid, very happy he’s found a role here and hope his coaching career continues well!  I liked him well enough as a guy who can play anywhere on the field and give you some pop.  I recall when he was out in center field in an emergency and he immediately made two highlight reel catches.  Dude was a great athlete, and his cannon from third base was spectacular
