Football Season Ticket Cost vs Face Value
I noticed that this year, the difference between the actual cost of the football season tickets and the listed face value jumped significantly.
- 2015: $15 lower cost vs face (End Zone)
- 2016: $5 higher cost vs face (Blue)
- 2017: $15 higher cost vs face (Blue)
- 2018: $73.67 higher cost vs face (Blue)
I am guessing the new tax deduction laws have some impact on this. I have only been tracking it 3 years but wondered if any MGoUsers had a longer history or information for other seating sections.
The fact that football tickets have ever been tax-deductible is fairly ridiculous.
Were the actual ticket costs deductible or just that stupid "donation" that was deductible? That whole PSD concept (across the college sports industry - not just Michigan) was a scam.
just the PSD was, not the tickets. The PSD is technically billed as a mandatory donation to the general fund of the athletic department. It's not just college, its also the pros too
I am interested in seeing prices in the next 10-15 years. The younger generations probably won't spend the same amount of money for season tickets. In addition, Michigan is trending towards more and more out of state students. That could affect the number of alums in the metro-Detroit area,
What’s effecting the close alumni is more people are moving away from this cold place lol.

If Michigan managed to keep the stadium reasonably full over the last 8 years(when the team was down and a significant number of people moved away from Michigan for jobs, I think the worst is probably over.
With air travel becoming cheaper and generally more accessible, and things like AirBnb springing up making Ann Arbor accommodation cheaper and 10x the capacity of what it once was, I don't think the concept of traveling from out-of-state regularly for games will be as big of a deal in the future.
I think decreased student interest is more a product of a subpar team than out-of-state students being less enthusiastic.
You also need to calculate the number of Michigan alums and fans living outside of the state who will retire in the next 10 years and who will want to attend as many home and away games in their retirement and they will have free time to do so! This will make up for us out of state alums and fans who have been missing out do to work and distance from A2.
I was wondering this when adding up the cost of my tickets. It was about $100 more than what I paid whenever payment was due.
$1,004 vs the sum of all tickets: $1,100.
I'm still confused?
Duh... rounding!

You must be closer to mid field (Valiant?) and sounds like you are getting a deal relative to the Blue PSD tier if you paid 96 less than face and we paid 74 over.
Are you taking PSDs into account? Sounds like you have two endzone tickets. If you add in the $78 per ticket PSD you pay a little more than face.
I wasnt but that was in the back if my mind.
Makes sense now, thanks!
... because, as always, keeping one step ahead of the law is always in the forefront of your mind.
If Harbaugh starts winning more B1G, making the playoffs, wining playoff games and winning NC, the price for tickets will go off the chart as the investors swoop in.
