Finebaum changed his tune

Submitted by We are back on January 2nd, 2024 at 9:41 AM

Our favorite on air personality just admitted on get up that, after spending the week around Michigan players and watching the game last night that there is no asterisk.

he also said the word around the espn folks at the game was that Jim out coached Saban which never happens.

I saw this too, and your description is accurate. Maybe he and Saban had a "lovers quarrel" last night and this is Pete's version of scorned lover revenge?

People have to realize that Finebaum is playing a character. He is not authentic in any way. When it's a non-controversial topic, he can speak with intelligence on football. But he knows how to get views & clicks, and that is through being the "Pete Finebaum" it-just-means-more guy, so that's what he does.

For people who want college football to be pro wrestling, he is worthwhile -- to love or to hate. For me, I like people who mean what they say, so I don't spend much time thinking about him.

Yeah cuz the beat the SEC team, and everyone knows SEC = football. Dont give a fuck about Pete or his tune. Same team we were all season when you were bagging on us. Welcome to the dark side Finebaum

Is Finebaum's agent posting on here? A Birmingham, Alabama broadcaster has an entire fanbase in the Upper Midwest desperate to hear his latest musings. Pretty crazy that people still aren't wise to the sports troll playbook even after all those years of Bayless, Smith, Cowherd etc.

There is a large talent gap if you believe star rankings. Link In raw numbers, the gap between #1 Bama and #14 Michigan in terms of recruiting talent is the same as the gap between #14 Michigan and #42 Maryland.

On my drive this morning some Sirrius Sports radio show MadDog Sports (don't listen to it normally) said Michigan won because they have an SEC mindset and Michigan out SECed the SEC champ.

He defined SEC as being physically tough.

I'll repeat it again - he's a cynical asshole who'll say whatever he needs to get attention.  He doesn't deserve any credit for "flipping" to Michigan, and he'll bury JJ and Blake the minute they lose a game.  Fuck him and stop taking him seriously.

and any 'master of the obvious' knows that saban was outcoached.  it can't be said enough:  saban has more 5*'s than the entire B10.  him losing to anybody but an NFL team is a failure of his coaching - he's competing in the soap box derby with a motorized car.

Gotta give a lot of credit to the coaching staff for making second half adjustments DURING the second half. I was feeling quite scared being down 7 points late in the game...but everyone hung tough.

he can go straight to hell with all his bama buddies. hard pass on any more flipping and flopping. just 3 weeks ago he kept saying how wrong he was to believe in harbaugh and he would never again.

Harbaugh should send him a horses head.

Downvoted for signal-boosting ESPN.

Let's remember they tried to torpedo this season, and now that they've failed you're going to actively help them profit off it??

I've said before that I am not critical of people changing their minds, especially with new information.

However, this is not that situation.

His stances on sign-gate this year:

1) This is piling on Harbaugh.

2) Based on literally no new information (beyond details of what was already known), this was a disgusting scandal and he would never give Harbaugh the benefit of the doubt again and doing so was the biggest mistake of his career.

3) After spending time with the players--and only after Michigan won--he decides Michigan is fine, as though spending time with the players should have any impact on whether or not you believe Michigan's wins are tainted. Stalions happened, what does having a polite conversation in person with JJ and Blake matter? If he thought that made a difference then he should have gone out of his way to talk to them earlier before stating an opinion.

He's so transparently disingenuous it's pathetic.

I think just maybe Finebaum deserves a little credit. Lots of people in the public eye would rather double down and rationalize their previous opinions.

He mentions meeting the players as a factor. That has a ring of truth. Let's face it, they're terrific young men. It's hard to be a hater when you hear what they have to say.

Just my two cents. Maybe I'm in the mood for forgiveness this morning.

Finebaum is kind of like Mike Valenti.  I cut myself off from anything Valenti circa 2012 and I never regretted it.

I started ignoring Finebaum around 5 years ago when he said on his show that Michigan has the most pathetic fan base in all of college sports.  Just another guy who desperately wants to get a reaction out of people and not talk about the actual facts.

With that said, I was just working out at Planet Fitness and happened to glance at one of the TV’s.  Finebaum’s show was on and one of the topics was ‘Did Michigan win or did Alabama lose?’  The next time I stupidly glanced at the tv, the topic was ‘If Michigan beats Washington, will it be a tainted title?’ Nope.  I clearly haven’t missed anything.
