Final Top 247 list for 2017
The final Top 247 was released (LINK). Dylan McCaffrey isn't as high on the list as some surely would like to see, and Donovan Peoples-Jones took a bit of a drop (he's still a 5-star). However, Luiji Vilain is at #36, which is four spots away from being a 5-star, and Michigan has seven guys in the top 100.
I listed all the targets/commits here if you're interested (LINK).

Unless Peters gets hurt, i do not think he will get much of a chance to showcase himself until maybe his last year.
Not so much a knock on DM as it is me worshipping BP.

You know you are at least playing with the big boys when I have to admit to being pissed that we "only" have 7 guys in the top 100. Since OSU and Alabama have the other 93, my excitement is dampened.
But man, Harbaugh can recruit...
January 18th, 2017 at 4:32 PM ^
Yep in a vacuum this is an amazing class. I would hazard we have the most players in the top 250 we've ever had. Then you look at the crap OSU is pulling like 7 of the top 40 players or something wicked like that and you exhale. But you can only play 11 on the field at once.
As a coach once said "we're building an army". We are going to need one.

I take solace in the fact that Alabama has had 5 #1 classes in a row, yet they were beaten by Clemson that only had 1 Top 10 class over the last decade.
As long as you recruit well enough to get your foot in the door . . .

When you look at how poorly the 2015 class has been overall. When Jim gets his guys, and they are highly rated, look out.
January 18th, 2017 at 4:39 PM ^
That's Not True, Georgia has about 35 kids in the top 100.

Scout also released their new 300 list but I am too lazy to post about it, or even link to it.

Their format is not easy on the eyes.

Is tell me that Ambry Thomas is going to play as a freshman in some form.

Hill, Long, and Clark (maybe) are the favorites. Hopefully Watson and Washington are assets.
At the very least, Thomas will play on special teams. I can see him beating out everyone listed above. I might be a little bias, as he is my favorite player in the class.
I hope we see a lot of St-Juste in the Spring Game also.

I really hope Keith Washington has a breakout year this year, or at least becomes a solid contributor. He would definitely be useful in the secondary.

Holy Cow did he move up!!! Sounds like we are pulling out all the stops to get him. He is rated much higher than Collins, but you can't coach 6'5"
Ah hell, let's just get both.

247 had an article recently to the effect of "Nebraska lands nation's top slot WR, per 247", talking about Tyjon Lindsay (I'm sure I butchered that name). We'll apparently not, per 247.

Really hope we land Martin. The kid's tape looks great.

Oliver Martin #47; Nico Collins #200 (and dropping)

Drevno and Zordich visited him. He is visiting psu this weekend. Harbaugh is supposed to have an in-home visit sometime next week. His official to Michigan is supposed to be 1/27.

Wow, some big surprises . . .
Stanford has the #1 recruit, three 5-stars, and as many Top 10 recruits as Alabama and Ohio State do. But they barely crack the top 20 class rankings. Talk about a top-heavy class.
USC, LSU, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Michigan do not have any Top 10 recruits among them. But Iowa does.
We are ranked 4th. I thought this was due mostly to our large class size. But we are 4th in average recruit rankings as well. We have no "filler" recruits.
Maryland has out-recruited Florida.
Clemson is not getting much bounce out of winning the NC this year and playing in it last year. (By contrast, Michigan had the #1 class in February 1998, after winning the NC in January 1998.)
January 18th, 2017 at 5:18 PM ^
They only have 11 commits: Three 5*, Four 4*, Four 3*. If they could maintain that across a larger class, that's a top 5 class easily.
January 18th, 2017 at 5:20 PM ^
They also convinced a top ten player to either sit the bench til Devery Hamilton leaves or play right tackle even if they beat him out. They already have Hamilton on the roster one year above them, yet they convince two top ten players who are both OTs to come to Stanford. That's nuts. I'm so jealous.

Is Walker Little SERIOUSLY a 103 to 247? That's fuckin' insane especially for a position as hard to project as OL. Remember how Gary was 101 for basically his whole recruitment then mysteriously dropped to 100 without explanation in the final rating?

Jay Tufele is at #14! (#41 composite though)

Every National Champion since I can remember has had a deep talented D-Line. It's the constant ingredient among NC teams.
Hell, ours almost got us into the CFP with an offense ranked well out of the top 25.

I really doubt anything of substance is going to happen. I'd imagine there might be one calculated Harbaugh tweet in the direction of Athens and that'll be it
January 18th, 2017 at 9:59 PM ^
I think Jim Harbaugh knows better than to tweet something that slanderous at Georgia. Whatever happens (if anything), I think it will be behind the scenes.

It sounds like there is a possibility (however small) of a true shit storm hitting GA over recruiting practices. Is the NCAA looking into this or is someone going to blow a whistle? Seems like their recruiting just took this huge jump in a relatively short time period. Any info is much appreciated. Apologies in advance if I missed this in a previous post, Magnus.

I don't think the NCAA is looking into it just yet. There are a lot of schools out there who play dirty, and I'm sure Michigan isn't 100% clean, either.
Georgia has a lot of pull, though. It's a decent school with a nice campus, and they have a ton of homegrown talent. If they could just clamp down on their own state, they would be one of the most talented teams in the country, because they don't have to share their talent with any in-state powers (GT doesn't count). Texas has several big programs, so does California, so does Florida, etc.
